No water was given to us. You had to buy your own for the entire trek! Food was good and adequate. Guide was very helpful but did not offer any information unless you asked him. His English was limited and he was quite young at age 19 but was an experienced hiker in the area. The refuge is quite modern with heat in the lounges and room sizes adequate however I was in a double bedroom with another hiker from my group. Showers were available in the refuge but cool water. Toilets were of both style in the refuge: eastern and western style so you had a choice!

My boyfriend and I booked this trip as part of a week long stay in and around Marrakech. It was the highlight of our trip. Our guide Mohammad was kind and friendly and took all of the group’s needs into account. He even lent me his coat when we reached the top! The trek itself isn’t easy, so be prepared for some long days of walking, altitude and steep terrain, but the effort is worth it. The refuge is quite basic, so bring supplies and don’t forget a head torch! We also enjoyed a lovely walk around the Imlil waterfalls with another guide called Abdul. This was super and a lovely chance to get to know the area. Thanks again, Hannah and Andrew

My wife and I really enjoyed this experience! We felt well taken care of the entire week. Abraham is an exceptional guide. As a local he was a wealth of knowledge about the area and added so much value to our trip. He is very kind and attentive. His English is good, and his technical mountain experience was appreciated on the ascent of Mt. Toubkal. Lhassan is an exceptional chef. His meals were delicious and varied, and the portions were very generous. We very much appreciated his friendly and playful demeanor. The Atlas mountains are gorgeous and Mt. Toubkal is a very worthwhile ascent. The surrounding villages perched on steep mountainsides are friendly, beautiful, and unlike anything we've experienced. There are a few ways in which our experience could have been better: Communication with the tour operator was not great. The tour operator should let clients know that the 7-day Toubkal Circuit itinerary detailed online is not possible in winter conditions. We messaged with the tour operator leading up to the trip and they did not mention that the itinerary would look different than what was advertised. It wasn't until we were dropped off in the Atlas mountains on day 1 that we learned we would be doing a completely different route through the villages in the valleys to avoid the snow. This meant most days were short starting around 10am, stopping for a 1-2 hour lunch, and finishing around 3 or 4pm. We could have done this itinerary in 4-5 days instead of 7 and had more time to explore other areas in Morocco. The tour operator failed to properly communicate important things we would need for the trip. For example, you need your passport for a checkpoint on Toubkal. Thankfully we had our passports with us, but we almost left them in our locker in Marrakech, which would have been unfortunate. The tour operator should notify clients of must-need items. Most days we had very generous servings of food and left every meal full and energized. The exception to this was the ascent of Mt. Toubkal, where food portions were small and snacks were not included. We had brought our own energy bars and recommend others do the same.

Best time to visit Mount Toubkal
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter on Toubkal transforms into something totally different. The 3-day direct ascent works really well with our small groups of 4-8 people, and we provide proper winter gear along with experienced high-altitude guides. The mountain refuges are pretty basic but they're exactly what you need in winter conditions. Our travelers tell us how much they appreciate the hot, filling traditional meals after a day in the cold. We keep the routes flexible too - if the weather turns, we can switch to alternative valley paths that still give you that winter mountain experience.

- Spring 2026
Spring's perfect for climbing Toubkal and you can really take your time with our 6-day valley routes. You'll see walnut trees coming into bloom while you're getting used to the altitude. The 4-day trips strike a nice balance - you get proper summit preparation plus time to explore places like Jardin Secret and also Bahia Palace back in Marrakech. Our travelers love learning local cooking in Marrakech and staying in traditional Berber homes. Most people choose the mountain refuges and guesthouses, though some tours offer camping under those clear spring skies.

- Summer 2026
Summer sees more people reach the summit than any other season, with different ways to tackle the climb. The 7-day route gives you proper time in Aroumd village - our clients consistently say this makes all the difference. If you're used to altitude, the 3-day direct route might suit you better. Summer lets you sleep out on guesthouse terraces under the stars, with the refuge providing shelter higher up. The guides plan around the heat, often starting before dawn so you catch sunrise spreading across the Atlas mountains.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn brings better visibility and cooler hiking weather, making it great for photos. While the 3-day direct routes work well, many people go for 5-day trips to explore quieter valleys too. The autumn light really brings out the mountain scenery and the trails are more peaceful. You might learn to make traditional bread in Imlil, visit Sidi Chamarouch shrine or share meals with local families. The mountain refuges are quieter too, giving you more chances to chat with fellow hikers and also local guides. Based on what our travelers tell us, Intrepid stands out for Moroccan treks - they're organized, fairly priced and their guides Lahcen and Mo really know their routes and local culture. Trek in Morocco is another solid choice; Abdul gets lots of praise from clients who enjoy his attentive style and the company's home-cooked meals along the trail. View Morocco delivers good experiences overall, though you should know that some guests mention basic sleeping arrangements at higher camps and occasional delays in email responses. Their routes are solid but communication could be smoother. If you're into mountain biking rather than hiking, MTB Morocco runs a tight operation. They maintain their bikes well, provide quality gear and can adjust routes based on your riding level. Our cyclists particularly like how they handle everything from beginner trails to technical single-track descents. Best to book any of these several months ahead, especially for spring treks between March and May when conditions are ideal and groups fill up quickly. The companies all handle logistics like mule support for bags, camping gear and food prep - letting you focus on the walking or riding.
