What people love about Auckland Tours
- New Zealand: Best of the North Island
I think it's sad that I only had the option to do the north Island of New-Zealand, while the rest of the people on my tour were continuing. But I did have the best experience of my life because Panda, our tourguide, is the best. Not only as a guide but also as a person.
- Northern Light from Auckland - Top rated by National Geographic
The trip was exactly as promised. It was packed with fun daily adventures and plenty of options. Tom and Shan communicated clear expectations, plans and options, all while creating a fun and exploratory environment. It was a pleasure being on a tour that felt like old friends were reuniting with a common interest... to explore and experience nature. We highly recommend Flying Kiwi and if we ever make it back to NZ, we will use them again. Cheers!
- New Zealand: Sun and Steam
This was a great tour of the top of NZ's North Island, and I live in NZ! A great way to see things you never get around to when you're a local - and there are some truly amazing things to see and do here. The only bad thing about it was that it was too short and my tour mates continued on without me as it's part of a longer trip. We had the best tour guide, a great driver, and an amazing group who will be friends forever. I also want to say that I've also done a tour of Europe with Topdeck, and I know how much difference a good tour guide makes. Isobel should be teaching other tour guides; she set ground rules for behaviour in a fun way that set the right tone for the whole trip, and was always there to help while treating us like adults.
What our customers ask about Auckland Tours & Trips
What is the best time of year to visit Auckland for sightseeing?
Auckland's prime visiting season runs December through February with temperatures hovering between 20-25°C and extended daylight hours. The autumn months of March to May bring equally favorable conditions with smaller crowds and better hotel rates. The Scenic Hotel Te Pania offers good value during this shoulder season. Visitors can comfortably explore the Auckland Sky Tower or take wine tours in Matakana. Winter brings more rain from June to August but rewards travelers with quieter attractions and lower prices. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The weather was perfect in March making it ideal for exploring Auckland's attractions and the beautiful surrounding areas."
What are some must-try local food experiences in Auckland?
The city's food scene reflects its Pacific Rim location and multicultural population. The Auckland Fish Market in Viaduct Harbour draws locals and visitors for its fresh seafood particularly the local green-lipped mussels. Ponsonby Central houses local producers and creative restaurants while the Auckland Night Markets buzz with Asian street food vendors. The Grove near Scenic Hotel Auckland serves refined New Zealand cuisine. Traditional Māori hangi meals cooked in earth ovens can be experienced at cultural villages. A TourRadar traveler shares: "The food scene in Auckland was incredible - from fresh seafood at the markets to traditional Māori cuisine at Te Puia every meal was an adventure."
What are the best areas to stay in Auckland for first-time visitors?
The Central Business District puts visitors steps from key attractions like the Sky Tower and Viaduct Harbour with the Scenic Hotel Auckland providing a central base. Ponsonby attracts those seeking a neighborhood filled with restaurants and bars. Devonport offers a slower pace with its historic buildings and beach access. A TourRadar traveler notes: "Staying in Auckland's CBD at the Scenic Hotel was perfect - we could walk to most attractions and had easy access to public transport for further exploration."
What unique shopping experiences can I find in Auckland?
The city's retail landscape ranges from Victorian-era boutiques in Parnell to modern shopping complexes. The Auckland Night Markets showcase local artisans and food vendors while Ponsonby Road features designer boutiques. Queen Street in the CBD houses international brands and K'Road specializes in vintage finds. The Scenic Hotel Auckland puts shoppers near these diverse retail districts. A TourRadar traveler reports: "The mix of modern shopping centers and local markets gave us a great variety of shopping experiences and unique New Zealand souvenirs."
What day trips are possible from Auckland?
Within a day's reach lies the Hobbiton Movie Set (3 hours by car) the Waitomo Glowworm Caves and the wine-producing Waiheke Island. Haka Tours reviews highlight Rotorua's geothermal areas as worthwhile visits. Closer options include the Waitakere Ranges and western coastal beaches. The Distinction Hotel serves as a convenient starting point for these excursions.
How many days should I spend in Auckland to see the main highlights?
A 3-4 day visit allows time to experience Auckland's essential sights. Set aside two days for central attractions including the Auckland War Memorial Museum Sky Tower and Viaduct Harbour. Reserve 1-2 additional days for trips to Waiheke Island or the Waitakere Ranges. The Scenic Hotel Marlborough provides easy access to city attractions and transportation. A TourRadar traveler confirms: "We spent 3 days exploring Auckland and its surroundings which was perfect - enough time to see the city highlights and take in some nearby attractions without feeling rushed."
