Ireland and Scotland Tours & Trips
A visit to Scotland will leave you in equal parts awe-struck and relaxed. Visit Edinburgh and climb to the castle, admiring the views. Head to Glasgow and immerse yourself in modern city life. Sample whiskey at a real distillery, and explore the Royal Mile. In Ireland, kiss the Blarney Stone and marvel at the Giant’s Causeway. Of course, a night out in Dublin with a glass of Guinness is a must!

Overall the trip was good. A lot of time on the bus that could have been spent on walking tours. Some of the hotels weren't very comfortable..had no AC or fans so rooms got pretty warm. Breakfast at most of the hotels were decent but it was the same thing every morning. Most of the places we visited were worth seeing once and some places are worth going back for more of a in depth visit. A little more downtime would have been nice but trying to satisfy 42 people is tough. Our guide and driver were wonderful..nice, informative, funny, engaging. We weren't happy when we found out that there were 42 people on the bus when we paid extra to be on a smaller tour of 26...still need to take this up with CIE for a refund. We were probably the youngest on the trip and will probably wait another ten years before we do a bus trip again. We would recommend CIE but hope they make the 26 versus 42 right

Best time to visit Ireland and Scotland
- Summer 2026
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo shapes how many travelers plan their summer tours through Ireland and Scotland, becoming a centerpiece of the most popular 10-14 day trips. After watching the grand military display at Edinburgh Castle, visitors venture into authentic Highland experiences, including sheep-herding demonstrations with border collies at working farms. The warm summer evenings are perfect for dining in medieval castles or gliding along Dublin's waterways in converted Guinness barges. These Military Tattoo journeys take in all the essential sights like Loch Ness, the Giant's Causeway, Blarney Castle and several other historic fortresses, while weaving in personal encounters with local experts. Our travelers join whisky makers for distilling demonstrations, participate in traditional music sessions at Temple Bar and spend time at places like Bogbain farm for genuine cultural experiences. Those looking to maximize their travel value often choose May and September departures, which offer similar pleasant weather with lighter crowds and extra opportunities to mingle with locals during regional festivals.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall tours of Ireland and Scotland hit the sweet spot between summer's peak crowds and harsh winter weather. Our most popular trips span 10-15 days, starting from Dublin or Edinburgh, where travelers love exploring in the crisp Highland air while autumn colors paint Loch Lomond. There's a gentler rhythm compared to summer tours, giving you time to properly discover Edinburgh Castle, explore Dublin's Temple Bar, and connect with locals at Highland farms. Several itineraries include watching border collies herd sheep, plus guided walks through historic districts once the tourist masses have cleared out. Our autumn guests particularly value authentic experiences at farm visits and castle feasts, sharing afternoon tea with Scottish locals and joining in traditional pub music. The routes combine major landmarks with quieter discoveries, from Loch Ness cruises and golf coast explorations near St Andrews, to walks along Derry's historic walls. What sets these tours apart is the two-night stays in key locations like Killarney and Edinburgh during autumn, creating a perfect mix of guided experiences and independent wandering.

- Spring 2027
Spring opens up more possibilities with tours running anywhere from 10 to 19 days. The longer ones start down in London and wind their way up through Shakespeare's old haunts before crossing into Scotland. Our travelers picked spring for good reason - you'll see the Highlands and Irish countryside when everything's fresh and green, plus you won't bump elbows with summer crowds at Edinburgh Castle or the Cliffs of Moher. We've arranged special access to Highland farms where you can watch the border collies at work herding sheep and most tours include a nice cruise on Loch Lomond. Spring weather makes it easier to spend time outdoors, whether you're walking Derry's walls or checking out the golf coast around St Andrews.
