We covered an incredible amount of ground in two weeks. We were immersed in the history and culture of the two countries by the sights, tours, and information shared by the excellent guides. Days were packed - on occasion too packed- but we wouldn’t have skipped anything. Food was good to great and always ample. We would recommend tje tour.

The Taste Of Scotland/ Ireland tour is not for the faint of heart. The first 3-4 days are exhausting- constantly on the go with much time spent in the bus. The tour is highly organized and well-planned, but conversely extremely rigid with little free time. The tour relaxed a bit once we reached Edinburgh- this also might be because our tour guide Liz departed the group at this point. She was awful- anxious, nasty, impatient, and rude. After she left, the tour vastly improved. Garry was our driver for the entire time and the primary guide from Edinburgh thru Ireland. The Ireland portion was more relaxed with a little more free time. In general, this was a good experience, but with a very stressful start. One recommendation for CIE would be to reverse the order in Scotland- start in Edinburgh, spend 2 nights there allowing the group to acclimate before starting hours long bus rides. After reaching Nairn, then drive south to Glasgow. This would shorten the journey to the Belfast ferry by an hour if we had started the ride in Glasgow. The trip was a good value for the price- I didn't have to spend much on my own once I was there.

The atmosphere is amazing with bagpipes drums and performers from around the world putting on a show. Your best bet is booking a tour between July 27 and August 17 to catch this. Over in Ireland the Rose of Tralee Festival happens in August too and it's such a special celebration of Irish heritage where women with Irish roots compete for the Rose title. You can catch this on the Britain and Ireland Explorer tour that runs for 19 days.

There's nothing quite like a Scottish ceilidh - it's this wonderful mix of folk music dancing and storytelling that usually happens in pubs or community halls. The Taste of Scotland & Ireland tour makes sure you get to experience one. You'll definitely want to try some whisky tasting at a distillery it's fascinating learning about how it's made and the Blair Athol Distillery visit on the 10-day tour is excellent. In Ireland kissing the Blarney Stone is a must-do tradition and the Best of Ireland and Scotland tour takes you there. The Irish pub music scene especially in Dublin's Temple Bar is incredible - you never know when a session might start up!
Where Are the Hidden Gems That Tourists Often Miss?
You really should check out County Donegal in Ireland it's got these incredible dramatic coastlines hidden beaches and amazing ruins like the 12th-century Boyle Abbey which you'll see on the Britain and Ireland Explorer tour. Over in Scotland the Isle of Skye is absolutely breathtaking with its cliffs waterfalls and lovely villages like Portree - the Scottish & Irish Dream tour includes this. Glencoe is another must-see it's got this powerful history with the MacDonald clan massacre and the natural scenery is just stunning.
