4 Days in South Australia Wine Country, incl. Barossa Valley and Clare Valley

- Day 1
Adelaide Arrival
Get settled at a 4-star hotel in central Adelaide. Take this day to rest and prepare for your cycling adventure. Visit Adelaide Central Market before 3pm to stock up on local snacks for your ride. Note that the market is closed Sundays and Mondays.
- Day 2
Barossa Valley Cycling (35km)
Your day starts with an early transfer to the Barossa Valley. You'll find off-road paved trails with minimal traffic and gentle slopes that work well for casual riders. The route takes you to famous wineries like Penfolds and Jacob's Creek. Stop at Maggie Beer's Farm Shop after 2pm when the tour buses are usually gone. Space out your cellar door visits since it takes 15-30 minutes to bike between wineries. Bring extra water - the Barossa gets quite hot from December to February. You'll spend the night in Tanunda which sits right in the middle of wine country.

Clare Valley & Riesling Trail (35km per day)
The Riesling Trail is a highlight of the Clare Valley. This limestone path on an old railway line stays relatively flat and is easy to follow. As you ride between Auburn and Clare you'll pass through small towns and stop at excellent wineries known for their Riesling and Shiraz. Bring extra layers since Clare Valley mornings can be cool even in summer. The trail is in good shape but gets dusty so pack your sunglasses. If you're not a regular cyclist consider an e-bike - those small hills can feel bigger after a few wine tastings.
3 Day on Kangaroo Island Itinerary, incl. Penneshaw and Flinders Chase
This three-day trip circles Kangaroo Island's coastline and includes guided walks at Seal Bay Conservation Park, where you'll get close to around 12,000 rare Australian sea lions. You'll also visit Flinders Chase National Park to see the famous Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.

Arrival in Penneshaw and Pink Bay
Take the morning ferry from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw. The crossing takes about 45 minutes. If you get seasick easily, bring motion sickness medication as winter crossings can be rough. After arriving at Penneshaw harbor, you'll take a short transfer to your coastal accommodation near Pink Bay. You'll have great ocean views from here. Spend your first afternoon exploring the 250-hectare private bushland around your accommodation. Take a walk around sunset when wallabies and kangaroos come out to graze.

Seal Bay and Flinders Chase National Park
Start early for your full-day wildlife tour. The morning light at Seal Bay Conservation Park is perfect for photos. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes with good grip for walking the sand dune boardwalks. You'll likely see sea lions most active in the morning, including pups playing in the waves. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen since many stops have limited shade. The drive to Flinders Chase National Park takes about 1.5 hours. Plan to visit Remarkable Rocks in early afternoon when sunlight brings out the orange lichen colors. The area gets very windy, so secure any loose items. Take the boardwalk down to Admirals Arch to spot long-nosed fur seals lounging on the rocks below. A zoom lens will help you get good photos. Look out for the island's special Western Grey Kangaroo. They're darker and more muscular than the ones on mainland Australia.

Morning Wildlife and Departure
Use your final morning for one last wildlife walk. Echidnas often come out around sunrise near the accommodation. Pack breakfast and eat on the beach while watching for dolphins in Pink Bay. Between May and September, you might spot migrating whales. Schedule a late morning ferry departure so you won't feel rushed.
