Starting at the cliffside Philosophou Monastery, the route through Lousios Gorge ends at the ancient Temple of Asclepius at Gortys - a 5 km trek with 550m of climbing that takes about 3 hours to complete. On Mount Taygetos, you'll follow the E4 trail from Agios Ioannis village to the Lagkadiotissa Gorge waterfall, a 10 km hike through olive groves that passes the Panagia Zagouna cave monastery along the way. The 4.2 km walk to Cape Tenaron's lighthouse brings you to the southernmost point of mainland Europe, passing the Temple of Poseidon ruins and an ancient necromanteion, with rocky coastal paths providing views of turquoise waters that are great for swimming in summer.

This 8-day self-guided trek follows the 75-kilometer Menalon Trail, Greece's first certified quality hiking route, through Arcadia's rugged terrain in the Peloponnese where you'll walk through Lousios Gorge, passing ancient monasteries as you climb to the stone village of Dimitsana.

On Day 3, you'll trek through the rugged Altovouni mountains and head down through empty peaks into fertile valleys where traditional Greek villages sit, then climb the fortified slopes to Mycenae's Lion Gate and wander through Agamemnon's palace overlooking the Argolid plain from its rocky perch.

The route takes you up Mount Eros to 588m to check out ancient Poseidon Temple ruins as you walk through Poros' olive groves and pine forests, following historic kalderimi stone paths to Profitis Elias Monastery, then heading down through cedar and oak woodlands past Agia Matrona and Agia Triada monasteries.

You'll climb Mount Ellanio to 532 meters, Aegina's highest point, where a small stone church sits with views across to Agistri, Moni, Methana, and the Peloponnese mountains. The path takes you through the ancient Eleonas olive groves with trees over 500 years old, then down through rocky limestone terrain to Marathonas beach.

The trek starts from Giri, the island's highest village, and heads to Loucha across karstic highlands near Oros Vrachionas at 756m, where you'll walk over hilly terrain covered in colorful macchia with panoramic views of Kefalonia and the Peloponnese, then continue up to Skopos mountain's summit.
