Australia Tours for Solo Travelers
Solo travelers find their groove quickly on our Sydney-based intro tours. These week-long trips mix Byron Bay surf lessons with plenty of chances to meet new friends. We hear great stories about friendships starting during harbor cruises and coastal walks, with many travelers choosing to continue their journeys together. The social side really comes alive in Surfers Paradise, where group activities naturally lead to evening get-togethers. What makes these tours click for solo travelers is how they blend structured activities with free time, plus ongoing help for those working and traveling in Australia. Having everything sorted - from airport pickups to places to stay - while keeping your independence is a big plus our solo travelers mention often.

What people love about touring Australia solo
- Kangaroo Island 2 day small group Wildlife Adventure (shared and private accomm available)
This trip to Kangaroo Island was really memorable! Thanks to James, our amazing tour guide, we discovered breathtaking places and learned everything about the island and the animals living there. It really was worth it! A good group dynamic and a very prepared and funny guide make all the difference!
- Ultimate Tasmania - 10 Day Comfort Tour of Tasmania
Under Down Under Tours is the way to see Tasmania if you've ever been considering it and want an easy, hassle free way to see this amazing state. Many different tour types to suit your needs. I did the 10 day comfort tour and it was fabulous. Amazing sights, great accommodation and Campbell was an absolutely fantastic guide. Super knowledgeable, funny and approachable. 1000% recommend.
- Famous 5 - 5 day Tour of Tasmania
We booked the Famous 5 tour around Tasmania for December 2025, and it was a fabulous experience. The tour was very well managed, and we were able to see all the important attractions. We opted for the motel accommodation with a private bathroom, and every place we stayed was fantastic. We were lucky enough to see wombats, wallabies, an echidna, and even a snake. Our driver, Brendan, also deserves a special mention for the dedication and care he put into the journey — without him, the experience would not have been nearly as enjoyable. I would highly recommend any tour with Under Down Under for their professionalism and dedication. Klaus F
What our customers ask about Australia Tours for Solo Travelers
What are the best regions in Australia for solo guided tours?
The East Coast and Red Centre draw many solo travelers each year. From Brisbane to Cairns the East Coast route lets you meet others at places like Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands. The Red Centre near Uluru helps you connect with Aboriginal culture and fellow travelers. Places to stay like Flynn Hotel Cairns and the semi-permanent camps at Kings Canyon make it easy to meet people. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The tour met all my expectations and more with fellow travelers making the experience wonderfully enjoyable."
What is the typical ratio of solo travelers on guided tours in Australia?
Most Australia tours see between 70-87% solo travelers. The Sydney to Brisbane Adventure stands out with 87% of bookings coming from people traveling alone creating a friendly social setting. A TourRadar traveler shared: "From day one I was able to see sights and take part in experiences of a lifetime... Having this trip be suited for all ages I learned so much about other people's lives and own travel stories."
How do accommodation arrangements work for solo travelers on Australian tours?
You'll usually share a twin room at hotels like Holiday Inn Potts Point in Sydney or Potshot Hotel Resort in Exmouth. Want your own space? Single rooms are available on most tours for an extra cost. During camping segments like at Kings Creek Station near Uluru you'll likely share a tent with another traveler of your gender. A TourRadar traveler confirms: "The shared accommodation was in mixed dorms which was absolutely fine all had comfortable beds hot water & AC."
What's the best time of year for solo travelers to join Australian tours?
Each region has its peak times. The Red Centre gets busy from April through June when temperatures are mild. East Coast tours run year-round but see more travelers from July to December. Some tours like the Perth to Exmouth Explorer welcome visitors throughout the year with a slight uptick from October through December. These patterns affect both the group mix and available activities.
What activities help solo travelers connect with others in the group?
Group activities bring people together naturally. You'll meet others while snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef seeing wildlife at places like Wildlife Wonders in Apollo Bay or sharing meals. As one TourRadar traveler said: "The group activities like the Whitsundays cruise and K'gari (Fraser Island) 4WD tour were perfect for getting to know fellow travelers while experiencing amazing destinations together."
How much free time do solo travelers get on Australian tours?
Tours mix guided activities with time to explore on your own. In Byron Bay you might go kayaking with the group in the morning then spend the afternoon at the beach or walking around town. Cairns offers optional activities like bungy jumping or time to relax. A TourRadar traveler noted: "There was a good mix of organized activities and free time to explore on your own or with new friends from the group."
