  • Days 1-2

    Anchorage & Heritage

    Valdez & Prince William Sound

    The route to Valdez goes through Thompson Pass. Take a break at Worthington Glacier if conditions allow. On your Prince William Sound cruise, pick the right side of the boat for glacier viewing.     Kenai Fjords & Seward

    Drive the stunning Seward Highway to Kenai Fjords National Park. Stop at the wildlife center to see rescued Alaskan animals up close.     Cody & Billings

    Little Bighorn & Black Hills

    Start early at Little Bighorn Battlefield before it gets hot. Drive to South Dakota's Black Hills to visit Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore. A traveler recommended: "The evening lighting ceremony at Mount Rushmore is worth staying for - much less crowded than daytime."

    Rapid City

  • Day 1

    Anchorage

    Head to Seward (3-4 hours away) to explore Kenai Fjords National Park. Take the Exit Glacier trail early for the best photos and fewer people. The full-day glacier cruise is worth your time - get seats on the left side to see glaciers calving. Start your day at the Alaska SeaLife Center before the crowds arrive.

    Denali National Park

    The drive to Denali takes 7-8 hours but offers incredible mountain views. Take the park shuttle to Mile 43 for wildlife watching. Bears are most active at dawn and dusk. Bring plenty of layers for changing mountain weather. One visitor noted: "The subarctic environment presentation really helped us understand why the wildlife behaves so differently here than in lower 48 parks."

    Denali to Anchorage

    Drive back to Anchorage on the Parks Highway, with mountain views all along the way. Stop in Talkeetna for clear morning views of Denali. The drive takes 4-5 hours. Finish your trip at Moose's Tooth, known for their reindeer sausage pizza.
