Budget Tours & Trips to Greece Reviews
- Athens & Santorini Tour - 5 Days - Standard
Having all the transfers prebooked and pickup times punctual took all the anxiety out of the tour and all we had to do was enjoy each destination.
- 2-Day Delphi & Meteora Tour
Amazing tour of Delphi and Meteora. Enjoyed hotel accommodations, food and transportation.
- Santorini, Paros & Naxos Islands with Guided Tours - Standard
With this kind of tour where you basically just book the logistics of a trip (ferry, hotel, transfers, tour) and minimize stress during your trip, you expect to pay a certain fee for the service compared to the "actual" price. But you also expect in return to have a certain quality of service and curation of the guided tours you get and the hotels. Guided Tours : First one on Paros was nothing short of exceptional (as it reflects on its real price after looking online, around 180 euros pp). Second one on Naxos was very disappointing concerning the quality of service (it's basically a big overcrowded bus tour where you follow one group after another at each location aand that you could book yourself easily on arrival and that in reality cost 30 euros pp). Last one on Santorini was mostly good (around 100 euros pp after looking it up), the other guests were mostly the issue and we had a big transfer issue at the end. Hotels : Most of the hotels were good. For 3 stars that is. Second one in Naxos was in the middle of the busy city and very noisy however. Last one in Santorini was very good but be aware that you can be located far from the points of interest if you have little time on the island. Communication with Travel Zone was mostly very good, efficient and with a good answer time. We have had 2 issues towards the end. A transfer problem that was adressed and then refunded. A ferry ticketing issue that was not adressed as it is considered "out of their responsabilty". So in the end, I would advise you to book this tour if you get a good discount and if you realy don't have time to deal with logistics. Otherwise, taking the time to look up online and book yourself would come way cheaper. I expected a bit more value for my money but I am however happy I tried it once.
What our customers ask about Budget Tours & Trips to Greece
What are the best budget-friendly areas to stay in Greece?
Budget-conscious travelers will find better value in Athens' Psiri and Koukaki districts compared to the popular Plaka area. On Santorini the beachside towns of Perissa and Kamari offer more reasonable rates than the iconic Oia. One TourRadar traveler shared: "Staying in Kamari Beach area of Santorini offered great value with lovely restaurants and beach access." For Mykonos the neighborhoods of Ornos and Platis Gialos provide affordable options with good transport links. Mainland spots like Kalambaka near Meteora consistently offer lower rates than most island destinations.
When is the most affordable time to visit Greece on a budget tour?
The sweet spot for budget travel to Greece falls during March-May and September-October. These shoulder months deliver mild weather and reduced rates. Winter visits from November through February bring the lowest prices especially in Athens and mainland areas though some sites operate on limited schedules. One TourRadar traveler noted: "Going in November meant less crowds and better rates though some shops/restaurants in Santorini were closed." Travelers can save up to 40% on rooms and tours by avoiding the July-August high season.
How much additional spending money should I budget for a tour in Greece?
Plan for about 50-75 USD daily beyond tour costs in Greece. This covers basic meals with lunches around 15-20 USD dinners at 20-25 USD plus activities and personal needs. TourRadar travelers suggest "An additional 500-600 EUR in cash is recommended for incidentals during the trip." Key costs include entry fees for archaeological sites which run 12-20 USD local transport at 2-3 USD per ride and optional activities like Santorini boat excursions for 35-50 USD.
What type of accommodation is typically offered on budget tours in Greece?
Three-star hotels form the backbone of budget tours with properties like Hotel Jason Inn in Athens Hotel Terra Blue in Santorini and Hotel Charissi in Mykonos. TourRadar travelers report: "The hotels were clean and safe...some accommodations were very basic but made up for by stunning locations and friendly welcomes." Expect private bathrooms air conditioning and breakfast service in simple but functional rooms. Location near attractions and beaches takes priority over luxury touches.
Are entrance fees to attractions included in budget tour prices?
Most guided segments cover major site entry fees such as the Acropolis in Athens (20 USD) and Delphi archaeological park (12 USD). A TourRadar traveler confirms: "The Athens half-day tour included all entrance fees to Acropolis and its museum." Extra activities like Santorini volcano visits (20 USD) or Delos island trips from Mykonos (50 USD) usually cost extra. Set aside 100-150 USD for optional attractions during a typical 7-10 day tour.
What types of transportation are included in budget Greece tours?
The standard package includes essential transfers between destinations with hotel pickups ferry rides between islands and coach transport for mainland routes. According to one TourRadar traveler: "All the transfers were handled seamlessly. The drivers were always prompt friendly and helpful." Tours connecting Athens with the islands provide economy ferry passage (Athens to Santorini takes 7-8 hours) while mainland itineraries use modern buses between sites like Delphi and Meteora.
