It was a great trip. It was just what I was hoping for. Everything promised was achieved. The guides were helpful, knowledgeable and very attentive. I would recommend this tour to anyone who doesn't mind roughing it and really wants to get out into the back country. The ethnicity of the hill people was fascinating.

What our customers ask about Hiking & Trekking Tours & Trips in Thailand
What is the best time of year to go hiking in Thailand?
The most favorable time for hiking in Thailand runs from November to February during the cool dry season. Northern regions like Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai offer pleasant temperatures and stable trail conditions during these months. The Mae Hong Son region works best from October to December with clear mountain views. A TourRadar traveler notes "November to January provided perfect hiking conditions with comfortable temperatures and minimal rain." Skip the July to October rainy season when trails become unsafe especially in mountain areas.
What accommodation options are available during multi-day hikes?
Hikers can expect varied lodging from simple homestays to well-appointed hotels. Northern hill tribe villages such as Ban Mae Ma and Huai Kung provide traditional wooden houses with essential amenities and mosquito nets. Between treks the Fern Resort near Mae Hong Son features rooms with rice terrace views. One TourRadar guest notes "The homestay experience in Karen villages was basic but authentic with comfortable mattresses and amazing hospitality." National park treks often include camping with provided tents and sleeping gear.
What cultural experiences are included in hiking tours?
The hiking routes connect travelers with hill tribe communities and their daily life. Villages like Ban Pong Noi and Yafu welcome visitors to join cooking sessions weaving demonstrations and shared meals. Near Chiang Mai Karen villages host overnight stays where guests learn local traditions. A TourRadar participant shares "Staying with the Karen people and learning their traditions was the highlight of our trek through northern Thailand."
What are the best hiking trails in Thailand for different skill levels?
The country's trails fit every ability level. The Mae Taeng River region has gentle 5km paths through bamboo forests and waterfalls. More advanced hikers tackle Doi Inthanon's steep 15km routes that climb to 1400 meters. One TourRadar hiker notes "the hiking in northern Thailand was incredible with stunning mountain views and authentic village experiences." Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary features moderate 10-15km daily walks while Erawan National Park offers family-friendly 2-3 hour waterfall trails.
What wildlife might I encounter while hiking in Thailand?
The varied landscapes support rich wildlife viewing opportunities. Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary allows glimpses of wild Asian elephants. The Doi Inthanon mountain area hosts many bird varieties and smaller mammals. A TourRadar guest reports "We saw everything from colorful birds to gibbons in the forest canopy near Mae Hong Son." Most large animal sightings happen at a distance and are not common.
How are meals handled during multi-day treks?
Trek packages cover all meals blending Thai and hill tribe cooking. Local families in places like Ban Mae Ma prepare dishes using regional ingredients. During forest walks guides cook traditional meals using bamboo methods. According to one TourRadar participant "The food was incredible - fresh authentic and plentiful. Our guide even taught us how to cook using banana leaves in the forest." Morning meals mix Western and Thai choices while packed lunches fuel the day's hike.
