Ben was THE Most incredibly gracious, kind, and friendly host. He ensured that we all felt safe and he truly cultivated an amazingly memorable experience that helped the group, as a whole, bond and connect. Our dinners were lovely, and that bonfire in Kings Creek was the best night! I feel as though I walked away with many new friends! I highly recommend this tour and Ben!!!!!

Our guide, Ryan, was excellent. He was well organised and knowledgeable about the places he took us to see and very amiable too. We felt the tented accommodation needed some investment as our second tent had a leaking roof which meant our bedding got damp during the storm we had that night. It would also be helpful if they ran some power for proper lighting in the tents as many of the lanterns provided had no charge so we relied on our own torches or smart phone lights to see. The food provided was plentiful and of good quality and it is a shame that these easily fixable issues took the shine of what was otherwise a fantastic experience.

Evening campfires are a highlight - your guide cooks proper bush tucker while you watch for shooting stars. If camping isn't your style, we've got permanent tented camps and special experiences like the Field of Light, which looks extra magical in autumn's clear air. Based on what our travelers tell us, Autopia Tours runs a really solid Uluru program. Their guide Damian gets mentioned often in the feedback - he knows the area inside and out and brings genuine enthusiasm to every tour. The meals are actually quite good, which isn't always a given with outback tours, and the whole experience flows smoothly from start to finish. Intrepid Travel is another solid choice if you're keen to learn about First Nations culture and traditions. They do a great job with the cultural elements and local connections. That said, we've had a few travelers mention some organizational issues - things like last-minute schedule changes or activities that didn't quite match what was in the brochure. It's worth keeping in mind, though these hiccups don't seem to majorly impact the overall experience. Both operators really get what makes Uluru special, but they each have their own approach. When's the Best Time to Visit Uluru?
Most visitors find April through September is really ideal for exploring Uluru the weather's much more comfortable for walking and outdoor activities. It's perfect timing for experiences like the Kings Canyon Rim Walk which takes about 3 hours and takes you past these incredible sandstone formations they call the 'Lost City' and this beautiful green oasis known as the 'Garden of Eden.'
What Can't You Miss While You're at Uluru?
There's this amazing Kings Canyon hike where you'll discover the "Lost City" rock formations and this gorgeous spot called the "Garden of Eden" - lots of 3-day tours from Alice Springs include this. You really shouldn't miss watching the sun come up over Uluru it's absolutely magical. The local First Nations guides share fascinating insights about bush tucker and traditional dot painting and the Walpa Gorge walk through Kata Tjuta is spectacular. At night there's this incredible art installation called Field of Light where 50000 light stems illuminate the desert it's pretty special.
Can You Still Climb Uluru?
The climbing of Uluru isn't encouraged anymore and there's a really good reason for this it's actually a sacred site for the Anangu people. Companies like Intrepid Travel stopped offering climbing experiences way back in 1998 recognizing how spiritually significant the rock is to the traditional owners.
How Can You Learn About Aboriginal Culture While You're There?
You've got lots of amazing opportunities to immerse yourself in Aboriginal culture here. Join the Mala Walk at Uluru where local guides share stories about the Mala people and their connection to the land. You can actually try your hand at traditional dot painting with Anangu artists and learn what all the symbols mean. The Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre is fantastic for really understanding the Anangu people's deep connection to this special place.
