What people love about touring Asia solo
- Sri Lanka Solo Journey Group
This tour is a good introduction to Sri Lanka's highlights, packing a thoughtful itinerary into a compact timeframe. Our driver, Pavi, was the standout—exceptionally caring, always ready to assist, and a safe, knowledgeable guide who made the journey seamless. A huge thank you to Pavi for elevating the entire experience! I docked a star due to a few hotels located far from city centers, which limited independent exploring during free time. Some activities and smaller towns felt underwhelming too or like tourist traps. Things like the gem museum are just a sales ploy masked as educational. Though the tours get commissions for pushing us to these 'sales' stops, I still think they should be removed from the tour. Yet, still, this tour is ideal for more 'normal' tourists wanting to tick off main sites efficiently. For full immersion, it's best to do the country on your own... Overall recommendation: Yes, especially if you get Pavi—you'll be in great hands for a broad, hassle-free overview of Sri Lanka! Thank you Pavi and the others that added thoughtful stops and value to this tour.
- Central Asia 16 days Start in Bishkek
All in all a very nice experience. The guides were very good and always knew interesting things to tell, the route was well chosen and the hotels always in a good location. Only recommend
- Circle Indochine 16 Days - Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos
This tour was fabulous! :-0 partly because the people in these countries are so kind and respectful, and partly because the tour was very well planned & organized with tour guides and drivers. I used another reviewer’s suggestion to eliminate one day (day 10 on Tom coc lake) and add an extra day in Luang Prabang, Laos. The tour program for the otherwise, only full day in Laos is overly ambitious and would be better spread out. We organized a Mandalao Elephant Sanctuary visit on our extra day in Laos and that was magnificent. We also eliminated Ho Chi Minh City because my spouse didn’t want so many flights. We were happy we did that, as fellow travelers commented that the war stuff was historic, but depressing. Dat is the contact both before & during the trip and he is nothing short of a miracle worker! He was able to accommodate every change we asked for, as well as a hiccup there.

Which areas of Asia are most welcoming for solo travelers?
Thailand Vietnam and Cambodia stand out as excellent destinations for solo travel with well-developed tourist facilities and friendly local communities. Cities like Bangkok Hanoi and Siem Reap offer a mix of familiar comforts and authentic experiences. These destinations have active expat communities and regular group activities that make meeting others natural. Places like Luang Prabang's night market and Hoi An's Ancient Town are known for their safe welcoming atmosphere. A TourRadar reviewer noted: "The local guides in Hoi An and Luang Prabang went out of their way to make solo travelers feel included and comfortable exploring independently."
What kind of support is provided for solo travelers during the tour?
The cost of traveling alone varies by location with single supplements typically between USD 800-1200. Legend Travel Group's 25-day Indochina tour charges USD 839 for single rooms. Hotels like the Majestic Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City and Apricot Hotel in Hanoi let you balance private space with group activities. What type of accommodations can I expect as a solo traveler?
Tours typically feature quality 3-4 star hotels such as the Tirant Hotel in Hanoi or Silkotel in Hoi An. You can choose between private rooms or shared twin arrangements. Private room supplements range from USD 300-600. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The hotels were all good-to-excellent mostly centrally located with pools and WiFi. The Palm Garden Resort in Hoi An was particularly memorable."
What's the typical group size on guided tours in Asia?
Small group tours usually include 8-16 travelers. G Adventures limits Central Asia groups to 16 people while Intrepid's Southeast Asia tours average 12 participants. These numbers allow for personal attention from guides while creating opportunities to connect with fellow travelers.
What's the best time of year for solo travel in Asia?

A past traveler noted: "Traveling in February meant perfect weather in northern Vietnam around Halong Bay but still comfortable in the south." Local guides can help you plan around seasonal events and festivals.
