14 Day Peru Itinerary, incl. Lima and Cusco
Across 14 days and 8 cities, this Peruvian odyssey takes you from Lima to Cusco. The adventure features a 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, visits to Arequipa's Santa Catalina Monastery, condor spotting at Colca Canyon, and immersion in traditional culture through Ccaccaccollo homestays and Pachamanca feasts.

- Days 1-2
Lima & Journey to Nazca
Begin in Lima's artsy Barranco district. "The craft beer scene in Barranco offers a perfect first-night introduction to Peru's capital." Your first morning is perfect for local market visits before taking a 7.5-hour bus ride to Nazca. Book an early afternoon bus to avoid Lima's busy morning traffic.

- Day 3
Nazca Lines & Overnight to Arequipa
Take an early morning flight over the Nazca Lines before the winds pick up. Try a traditional Pachamanca feast where locals cook food underground. "The Pachamanca lunch was a highlight - watching the ceremonial unearthing of the food gave us real insight into local traditions," according to a TourRadar review. Head to Arequipa on an overnight bus.

- Days 4-5
Arequipa & Colca Canyon
Visit the colonial "White City" of Arequipa. Get to Santa Catalina Monastery early to avoid crowds. A recent visitor suggests: "Try the spicy rocoto relleno at a local picantería - but order mild if you're sensitive to heat." On Day 5, take a full-day trip to Colca Canyon and enjoy the hot springs. Bring warm clothes for cold mornings and lighter ones for warm afternoons.

- Days 6-7
Colca Canyon to Cusco
Get up early for the condor viewpoint. "Getting there by 6:30 AM maximizes your chances of seeing condors riding the morning thermals," says a visitor. After seeing local villages, take an overnight bus to Cusco. Use Day 7 to adjust to the altitude at 11,152 feet. Take it slow and drink coca tea to help with the elevation.

- Days 8-9
Sacred Valley
Stay overnight with local families in Ccaccaccollo. "The women's weaving cooperative showed us traditional techniques passed down for generations," shares a traveler. See Pisac's ruins and market, then move on to Ollantaytambo. Spend your second night in Ollantaytambo to get ready for the Inca Trail.

- Days 10-13
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Spend four days on the challenging but incredible Inca Trail. Tackle Dead Woman's Pass (13,769 ft) on Day 11. Start early since clouds often roll in during afternoon. A TourRadar reviewer notes: "The porters and cooks were incredible. Having hot tea waiting at camp made the tough days manageable." Arrive at Machu Picchu for sunrise on Day 13.

Everything was excellent. Tour guides, places visited, accommodation and transportation.
- The Best of Southern Peru + Ballestas Islands, Ica - Huacachina Oasis & Nazca: Budget
Really enjoyed this tour - and the itinerary of places to visit - which culminated in us paying for the extra day around Machu Picchu, to climb the harder and steep route up Huayna Picchu: which was exhilarating and well worth the effort!! Local contacts, drivers and guides were so helpful in each destination - as they all changed in each particular locations. All tours involved minibuses - or boat trips - so were well experienced for these tourist venues. The Ballestas Islands, Nasca lines, Colca Canyon and a walk to the top of the island in Lake Titicaca were all great highlights. There were a great number of different places to see - with varying levels of accommodation comfort, which were on the whole sound. Even though the Miraflores hotel was good, it was a way out (50mins away) from the main coastal part of Miraflores. Most breakfasts were included which were a good way to start the long days. All tours involved the obligatory local crafts or products stops. Some had particularly informative and entertaining talks - particularly the lady in Chinchero selling their locally made products. Another accidental highlight was being there at the time of their various carnivals in February - making it more colourful and lively all around Cusco and Lake Titicaca area. Cusco’s best museum was the Pre-Columbian art - small and very good and informative.
