- Days 2-3
Hiroshima & Miyajima
Take a 2-hour train to Himeji Castle before heading to Hiroshima. Visit the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. The next day, take the ferry to Miyajima Island to see the Itsukushima Shrine. Get there before 9 AM to avoid crowds and see the torii gate during high tide when it looks like it's floating on water.

Nara & Kyoto
Head back to Osaka and spend a morning in Nara. A recent visitor noted: "The deer in Nara Park were so friendly, but bring crackers early in the day when they're most active." In Kyoto, visit the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest before 8 AM for better photos and fewer people. Stop by Nijo Castle and the stunning gold-leaf Kinkakuji Temple. Watch your step on temple stairs, particularly in the morning when they might be slippery.

- Days 6-7
Mount Fuji
Take the Shinkansen bullet train to Mount Fuji. The train reaches speeds up to 200 mph. Visit the 5th station for mountain views but have a backup plan since clouds often block the peak. Tokyo
Start with a Lake Ashi cruise in Hakone before moving on to Tokyo. Visit the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building's observation deck for free city views. Sunset offers great Mt. What people love about 10-day Japan tours
- Japan Golden Route with Hiroshima 2026
My husband and I had a great tour with Tomatoe. The itinerary was well paced. A good balance between natural beauty, historic content and Japanese life and culture. The food was local and showcased the area cuisine. We had adequate time to stroll and shop. Thoroughly enjoyable.
- Japan Classic 10 Day - One Life Adventures
This tour is perfect for a first trip to Japan! You get to see and experience so much, far more than I expected. It was all fantastically led by our tour guide, Jordan. The itinerary strikes a great balance between historical and cultural sights, the food scene, iconic Instagram spots, hands-on experiences like sushi making and kendo, and plenty of free time to explore on your own. Jordan also gave us excellent recommendations for how to make the most of our free time. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who has never been to Japan and is thinking about taking the plunge, just go for it! Be prepared to walk quite a bit, so wear comfortable shoes. You’ll also be sharing a room, so make sure you’re comfortable with that. And a big shoutout to the incredible group of fellow travellers… where to next? ?

Too many shrines and temples but the rest of the itinerary was good - especially Hiroshima, remembering the bombing. Initial guides, led by David, were excellent, particularly in making us all feel part of a "family" on tour. Later guides were nor so personal or relatable.
