Florence City Center
Start your Florence visit at the city office near the train station to get your maps and local tips (open 9:30 AM - 5 PM except Sundays). Most hotels don't allow check-in until 3 PM, so store your bags at the office or hostel storage and start exploring. A recent visitor shared: "The hostel was very comfortable, only about 5 minutes walk from the office, making it really easy to go back and forth."

Chianti Wine Region & San Gimignano
Get to the meeting point by 9:25 AM for the 9:40 AM Chianti departure. You'll drive an hour to your first winery to taste four wines including Chianti Classico and Brunello along with 30-year balsamic and truffle olive oil. The second stop features a winery known for Vernaccia white wine where you'll tour the vineyards and cellars. In the afternoon you'll visit medieval San Gimignano. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestone streets and stop for some world-champion gelato while looking at the town's iconic towers. One visitor noted: "The vineyards we visited and the sights we got to see along the way were like something out of the movies."

Final Morning in Florence
Hotels require check-out by 10 AM but you can store your bags and spend your morning doing final sightseeing or taking an optional city tour. Rome to Sorrento
Your day starts early with 6:30 AM hotel pickup for the 7:30 AM departure. The coach ride south takes about 4 hours including breaks. "The hotel in Sorrento had a lovely pool - perfect after the long drive down from Rome." Stay at a central Rome hotel to make the morning pickup easier. In Sorrento you'll have the afternoon free to explore. Visit Via San Cesareo to browse limoncello shops and watch local woodworkers craft their pieces.

Capri Day Trip (April-October only)
The Capri trip depends on good weather for boat travel. One visitor noted: "Know that seeing the Blue Grotto isn't guaranteed - sea conditions often prevent access. The coastal boat ride is still wonderful though." Take the minibus up to Anacapri at 918 feet for incredible views over the Bay of Naples. Bring motion sickness medicine if you get queasy on boats. In winter (November-March) you get a free day in Sorrento instead.

Sorrento to Pompeii to Rome
Spend your morning in Sorrento before leaving at 1:15 PM for Pompeii. Bring water and sun protection as the archaeological site gets very hot. You'll get skip-the-line entry and radio headsets. A recent visitor shared: "The archaeology professor who guided us through Pompeii was truly outstanding!" The drive back to Rome takes about 3 hours with a 9 PM arrival. Book a Rome hotel since you'll get in late.

Once you arrive and check in, take some time to walk through the historic center. The narrow streets are quieter and more enjoyable in late afternoon after most tourists have left.

April-October: Take an early morning ferry to Capri (20 minutes). The Blue Grotto visit depends on weather conditions. If the seas are rough, your guide will suggest other spots like the Faraglioni rocks. "The guides in Capri were very informative, offering much detail about what we were seeing," a recent visitor said. November-March: Spend a peaceful day exploring Sorrento without the summer crowds. Walk through Via San Cesareo to see local woodwork shops or take an optional trip to the Amalfi Coast. One traveler shared: "visiting Positano, Amalfi and Ravello was quite a surprise and very enjoyable."

Pompeii and Return to Rome
Use your free morning in Sorrento for shopping or taking photos of the Bay of Naples. At 1:15 PM, head to Pompeii. Your archaeologist guide will lead a skip-the-line tour. Wear good walking shoes the ancient streets are uneven and get hot in summer. "The tour of Pompeii was incredible! The guide was excellent," one guest remarked. The return trip to Rome takes about 3 hours. Planning to stay longer? Consider the Grand Hotel Vesuvio in Sorrento. Every single guide on this tour was very, very good. Alessia for Capri and the archeology professor who guided us through Pompeii were truly outstanding! The hotel in Sorrento was good but not great. Very nice pool and staff but difficult to find one’s way around without better signage. Meals were ok to good. I wish I had known the likelihood of seeing the blue grotto was fairly slim due to sea height variability before I went. Then I might not have been as disappointed as I was that it was closed. Still the boat ride on Capri was good and Alessia did her best to show us small samples of water that was like the water in the grotto.
- 3-Day Pompeii, Capri & Sorrento Mini Tour
I took the 3 day tour from Rome to stay in Sorrento for 2 nights, in January 2025. Tuesday to For going to Pompeii, I was collected from my hotel in a taxi and taken to a meeting point, where everyone hung around until the bus a arrived. It's a long distance in the bus, which was full of people from everywhere. The guide at Pompeii was excellent. Then I was taken in another taxi to Sorrento. It sounds like a lot of transfering but I can see how it works. I had door-to-door service. The accommodation in Sorrento was clearly 3* but I received the best of Italian personal service and attention. During January there is no Capri trip, and this time there was no Napoli either. Also I had signed up for 4* accommodation but I was given 3*. So I had, included, a tour on the Wednesday to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, which was quite a surprise and very enjoyable. It involved 6 of us (we didn't know each-other) in a big taxi. The driver spoke excellent English. Sorrento is ok, so it was exciting to visit another 3 towns along such a spectacular coastline. Returning to Rome, in reverse, there was the same arrangement with bus and taxis, but it was all so well managed that it wasn't a problem. Rome seems very disorganised compared to this Tourradar trip !
