Camping Tours & Trips in Namibia
Namibia is mostly open land, with long distances between towns. In the Namib Desert, the dunes change colour as the sun moves. Old rock paintings from the San people are still visible in some areas. Etosha National Park is known for its salt pans and wildlife, and conservation projects around the country focus on keeping these dry landscapes intact.

Africa awaken something in my soul. It was an authentic tour, local experience.
3 Days Etosha National Park | Private Guided CampingI was very pleased with this tour of Namibia. We chose the 8 day camping tour which covers a lot of ground in a short time. However, our guide was excellent and he managed the time and sights well. He also was experienced and knowledgeable about his country so the journey was interesting on every level. If it is possible to request Shawn Kashima to be your guide you will be fortunate if he is available. Namibia is a beautiful desert land worth experiencing. Climbing the dune at Sossusvlei was a highlight as was witnessing the mass of seals at Cape Cross. Etosha was fantastic as we were fortunate to see a pride of 12 lions in the morning. Our guide was in contact with rangers and other guides so he knew where it was best to go at the moment. Overall, this journey was very enjoyable for our family, which includes our 5-year old daughter who loved camping and developed a friendly rapport with the guide.
Etosha NP, Swakopmund & Sossusvlei ( Camping in Swakopmund ) 8-DayMy 10 Days Northern Namibia, Damaraland, Coast & Sossusvlei Camping Safari was one of my best trips ever, without a doubt. Everything went smoothly, nothing to add. Since the beggining of the trip (and I booked just 10 days before the start of the trip), the manager of the company was very professional and fast to answer all my questions. I never did much camping before, so I was a bit anxious on this part, but all things went so well! Our guide was such a nice guy (and cooked so well...), that these 10 days felt like a few hours. From my picking up the airport, the transport, the food, the camping, such a nice trip overall. Even though there are always unpredictable things, all was solved and I can honestly complement Blue Crane for their professionalism and a great trip! I will miss Namibia. Hopefully I can return again soon.

What our customers ask about Camping Tours & Trips in Namibia
When is the best time of year for a camping tour in Namibia?
Namibia's camping season hits its stride from May to October during the dry winter months. The mild weather and excellent wildlife viewing make this the ideal time to visit. Days hover between 20-30°C (68-86°F) while nights can cool to 5°C (41°F). Campsites like Sesriem near Sossusvlei and Okaukuejo in Etosha National Park offer clear night skies. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The weather in August was perfect for camping with cool nights and sunny days."
What type of camping equipment is provided on Namibia camping tours?
Tour operators supply the core camping essentials: dome tents camping mattresses camp chairs and basic equipment. At locations like Halali Camp in Etosha and Sesriem Camp tours set up canvas tents roughly 2.5 x 2.5m in size. Travelers need to bring sleeping bags (rentals available for 180 NAD) and pillows. A TourRadar review states: "The camping equipment was in excellent condition and the tents were easy to set up making the experience very comfortable despite being in remote locations."
How many people are typically in a Namibia camping tour group?
Groups stay small ranging from 2-14 people to maintain an intimate safari experience. Safari World Tours matches vehicle size to group numbers: 2-3 guests travel in Double Cab 4x4s 4-7 in Toyota Quantums and 8-14 in modified safari vehicles. As one traveler noted: "Our small group of three created an intimate atmosphere that lent itself to a truly unique and personalized experience."
What wildlife might I see during a camping safari in Namibia?
Etosha National Park offers sightings of four of the Big Five along with numerous other species. Safari World Tours reports regular sightings of "Elephants Hippo Giraffe and Lions during game drives." The Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast feature desert-adapted wildlife. One traveler shared: "We had amazing wildlife sightings at the Okaukuejo waterhole where we saw black rhinos elephants and lions all in one evening."
How many hours of driving should I expect between camping locations?
Distances between major sites require substantial road time. The drive from Windhoek to Sesriem Campsite covers 320km (5-6 hours) while Swakopmund to Etosha spans 510km (7-8 hours). TourRadar reviews note: "Despite some long drives between campsites the incredible landscapes and frequent wildlife sightings made the journeys interesting. Our guide made regular comfort stops and photo opportunities."
What are the must-see highlights of a Namibia camping tour?
Essential stops include Etosha National Park Sossusvlei's red dunes the Deadvlei clay pan and the Skeleton Coast. One traveler shares: "The sunrise at Dune 45 the wildlife at Etosha's waterholes and camping under the stars at Spitzkoppe were unforgettable experiences."
What's the best way to prepare for extreme temperatures while camping?
Temperature swings in Namibia can be dramatic particularly in desert regions like Sossusvlei where daytime highs exceed 30°C and nights drop below 10°C. Pack clothing layers a warm sleeping bag and protection for both sun and cold. A traveler advises: "Being prepared for both hot days and cold nights is crucial - we experienced freezing temperatures at Sesriem Camp but were comfortable with proper camping gear and layered clothing."
