I could only take that so long before the itchy feet set in and the travel bug bit. I began guiding in the summers, and doing my own travels in the winters. 10 years on, and still loving every minute of life on the road.

He was funny and so w…We had a Wonderful trip, from 9/8 to 9/17/2023, our guide Ben from Vancouver and bus driver John from Calgary were amazing. Ben was so informative of all the places we visited. He was funny and so was our driver and they went out of their way to make our tour exciting and Fun. The group we were with were great. We seen so many wonderful sights such as the big red bus in Glacier National Park, stayed in one of there lodges. Then went the Banff and stayed in the Fairmount which was amazing. Went on a gondola. Lake Louise was beautiful. Jaspers was great, all our hotels were Very Nice the breakfast buffets got better and better. We couldn’t have asked for better weather. I highly recommend this tour.
Ben Hutchison is a valuable member of your team . I would do what you can to keep him around for a long time. He added greatly to our overall experience.

Having had my fair share of medical eye issues, Ben was the only tour guide to email before I had even left Blighty to offer assistance in any way. Being single I worry about being included with fellow travellers. From day one I just had the best time, Ben our guide could not do enough for any of us, nothing was too much bother. If he ever had a bad day, being a true professional he would never let it show. We were one big family. Ben was part of the group from day one. His knowledge was amaizing, every question had an answer. He is passionate about what he does and it shows........seeing a small part of the world with Ben should be on everyones bucket list. He makes everything fun.. AS for the tour it was well worth using my savings as it was briiliant, just the right balance of culture, sightseeing and freetime. Best bits. ALL!! I loved Vancouver Island, Whilstler and Bamff When can I go back?

He never failed to excite us with his whit and consideration of the whole group we were with we had a special needs young woman on board the bus and he treated her with great respect at all times I became ill with the a cold while on tour he went out of his way to get me some medication while we were having a special dinner. Thank you Ben.The rest of the tour was amazing with great Hotels and events . Having previously toured with both Insight and Trafalgar we were aware of the way the tour would run. We have also been on numerous cruises where day trips with a tour guide have been the norm. This tour of the Rockies with our Tour Guide Ben Hutchinson was an absolute standout. Ben is far more than a tour guide he has the ability to enhance the experience for all, with his own style, supported by his stories, music and props. He is a very proud ambassador for Canada and a credit to himself and Trafalgar. He is very good at handling adverse situation where a member of our tour took ill and required urgent hospitalization. Ben continued to provide 100 percent commitment to the tour group as well as arranging accommodation and transport for the couple with the medical emergency. Ben became a friend to everyone on the tour and I would rate Ben the best Tour Guide I have ever traveled with. He is what all guides should aspire to be, thoughtful, welcoming, polite, passionate, humorous and without prejudice (even to Australians) Carry on the great work.

We have never done a tour before and we were a bit apprehensive as to if it was our thing, as we have always been independent travelers. But to my suprise we loved it . We fitted so much in to each day and didnt have to think about whats next or where to go. The people we toured with were lovely and even the older grey nomad people didn't stop us from doing the things we wanted to do. Our tour director was Ben Hutchinson and apart from being a fountain of Knowledge of his home country he ensured we had a good time. This was a remarkable country to visit with spectaclar views of mountains, snow and rivers, even bears. Holidays are for relaxing but to experience new places too. Well done trafalgar and Ben, you have converted us to a new way to travel !!!

If I were to go on another tour I would not only choose Trafalgar but I would also inquire about selecting dates when Ben could be our guide.

The hotels we stayed were top notch with high standard in terms of service & cleanliness. We were very happy with the downtown location,accommodation & breakfast.The inclusive lunch & dinner we had were delicious and first class. He is a fun loving and approacheable guy who will go all the way to help anyone.He is willing to answer any queries and if he doesn't have the answers on hand,he will find out and come back with the answers. He made sure everyone had a good time. He is also patient & kind with" the senior clientale" by catering to their needs and ability. He got a wheelchair and helped push an elderly lady who had difficulty walking to a restaurant and also arranged for another client to be admitted to a hospital in the event of sudden illness. Overall,we would rate Ben Hutchinson as 10/10 ( excellent) who has proved himself to be a very professional and friendly tour guide who will be remembered for his willingness to help in any circumstances. We have been on a number of tours with other tour companies, and this was the best tour and tour guide we've ever had. The reason for this great tour was primarily due to the tour guide. He got us to all the most scenic and interesting locations, gave us great information about what we were seeing and its history, and the tour gave us enough time at each location and enough free time on our own. Ben Hutchinson was our tour guide. He has a great sense of humor and it was clear that he worked extra hard to make sure we all had an excellent vacation. He obviously has a real passion for travel. He shared an enormous amount of information in a very interesting manner. He goes the extra mile. An example is that every day he checked his app for the Northern Lights, and one afternoon he informed us that there was a 90% chance of seeing them. My wife and I would never have been out that night and seen the Northern Lights (first time ever), if he hadn't provided us with this information. Best trip EVER!

The seat rotation did not really work for me because I prefer window seat to take photographs of the amazing scenery and there are some travellers do not really seem to care where they sit or want to take a nap instead of taking photographs or read. But the Trafalgar seat rotation is done to be fair to all. If you love photography it can work out to your disadvantage as you can miss out on photographs of the most beautiful scenery while there are travellers with a window seat taking a nap.
I would prefer earlier starts in the morning but usually with Trafalgar tours the departure in the morning s are later.
I would recommend that you research and book your own optional excursions as there are a variety of operators that offer excursions that are better value for money if you do a comparison.

I have been on several guided tours and I have never come across such a well-organized and considerate tour leader like Ben Hutchinson.
He is very thoughtful and places emphasis on the finer details on the tour such as Nanaimo bars in the city of Nanaimo, snack packs with Canadian treats , taking the time to label the group photo with each travellers name, surname and country so we could remember the travellers in our group.
He is very funny and makes time to connect with each individual on the tour and caters for their specific travel needs. A truly incredible tour guide and I wish him well on his future travels. Thank you for a great trip with many special memories!

He took care of us, saw to our needs, our issues, but most of all exposed us to such knowledge that only a well-trained teacher can provide. I am a retired public school teacher (25 years + experience) teaching and mentoring not only secondary students, but both college and post college student teachers. I can recognize the enthusiasm a teacher puts forth in presenting and ensuring a good educational experience. Ben has that enthusiasm and technique! This old teacher enjoyed being taught!

His knowledge and information regarding towns food, wine and cost was an added bonus.
Ben worked hard every day as he had to heard a bunch of mostly Ozzies in to order, he handled sone tricky issues between passengers very well. Difficult passengers who would even try my patience like late arrival, missing in action and darn right rude were handled with ease. While l whinged about there being far too many people on the bus l cannot fault Ben for that. He also informed us about additional tours their costs and handled the bookings professionally. The hotels were in good locations and the dinners and activities that we all shared were excellent. I would like to see Ben be awarded this prize as only recently while touring Spain my friend and l commented on how much we preferred Ben because of his sunny personality, profound knowledge as well as Canadian music. Go Ben be number one

All of the hotels throughout the trip were spacious, clean and comfortable and all were in fantastic locations, right in the middle of town. All of our included dinners were generous portions and lovely food. The quality and standard of the tour overall was much higher than other tours I have done in the past with other companies. Ben even gave us some local snacks and played local music along the way to make our experience as authentic as possible.
The included activities of the tour were great and so much fun – and they even threw in a couple of the optional activities at no charge as unfortunately we missed a couple of included activities due to the weather. Awesome customer service and completely unexpected. The wildlife specialist was super informative, we got to play ice hockey (and fall on our butts in front of an audience), we met a Canadian Mountie, and on top of that, we got to see some pretty spectacular scenery along the way.
If you’re looking for a tour that moves at a relaxed pace while still fitting in plenty of action and sightseeing, I would highly recommend this one. All we needed to do was kick back and enjoy the ride and take in all of the information that Ben was giving us.

He made everyone feel welcome and special and went out of his way to ensure we met some of our fellow travellers.
Ben has a way about him that relaxes everyone to enjoy their holiday and feel at home. His knowledge of the areas we visited was second to none, if a question arose he was unsure of he would find the answer. He was passionate about his country and this passed onto all of his flock.
Ben had endless energy and enthusiasm each and every day, there was never a bad day with him. His sense of humour and endless jokes kept us laughing.
This was my fifth Trafalgar Tour and I have to say with all honesty that a tour leader will either make or break your holiday. Ben was by far the very best I have ever toured with, he made my holiday the very best. I wish him all the best for the future.

The coach (tour bus) made a large difference from other tours we have taken given the amount of time spent on the bus. Insight had reconfigured the normal 50+ seats to only 40 seats and gave everyone greatly expanded legroom (equal to or better than 'business class' on an airplane.
Our "Traveling Concierge" (tour director), Ben Hutchinson, was extraordinary and by far the best tour director we have ever had.

The itinerary was excellent and enabled us to have a real experience of the Canadian Rockies.
The tour management and organisation were outstanding, which is a credit to our tour director, Ben Hutchinson. Ben was always very prepared and organised for each day. He had always done his homework and was very knowledgable about the area and places we were visiting and shared this knowledge in an interesting way. Ben has a great sense of humour and this, with his endless energy, made our days full of anticipation and enjoyment.
Ben was always very mindful of the pastoral care of the members of our group and went the extra mile to ensure everyone was well, happy and had all their needs met.

We did the Trans Canadian Grandeur tour in August this year.Unfortunately through no fault of Insight we had a 12 delay at Brisbane airport due to some problem with Air Canada which made that we misse…We did the Trans Canadian Grandeur tour in August this year.Unfortunately through no fault of Insight we had a 12 delay at Brisbane airport due to some problem with Air Canada which made that we missed nearly a whole day in Vancouver as we only arrived in time for the welcome dinner.We met our tour guide Ben who found to be wonderful, entertaining and very thoughtful. He is a credit to your company. We have been on many tours and not found one like Ben
We also had long long delays on the train we should have arrived in Toronto at about 9.30am but did not got to our hotel until about 9pm again missed a day of sight seeing.

Our group of 52 started out pretty quiet BUT thanks to our tour director, Ben Hutchinson we all bonded and became a loud and happy group. Ben gave us so much information re what we were seeing along the way, history and kept us laughing. Trafalgar, you are lucky to have him. Our coach driver, Al was superb. Smooth driving and so helpful to us all. Ben and Al work so well together.

Accommodat…Our tour was Majesty of the Rockies in August 2017. We had a GREAT time and especially enjoyed visiting some less well known places, such as Spirit Island on Lake Maligne, and Emerald Lake. Accommodations were beautiful and comfortable, from the elegant Four Seasons hotels to intimate cabins with stone fireplaces. Meals provided were excellent, and we also enjoyed plenty of free time to explore on our own, checking out local restaurants and hiking trails. Our guide, Ben Hutchinson, and driver Owen (sorry...I did not get his last name) were wonderful. The coach was always spotless, and Owen's calm demeanor and excellent driving gave all of us confidence even on curvy mountain roads. Ben was well informed, funny, charming and attentive to all of his guests. We enjoyed special treats he provided, such as samples of heavenly maple whisky and Nanaimo Bars. (He even gave us the Nanaimo Bars recipe.) A born story teller, Ben told tales of Canadian history (often a difficult story) and mountain legends with equal skill. He and Owen worked well as a team to see that we were always in the right place at the right time. One day, in a crowded parking area, we watched another coach driver narrowly miss a car in his attempt to park his vehicle, even with his guide waving him in. Minutes later Owen backed smoothly into place (without a guide) while Ben played the theme to Mission Impossible on the intercom. As Owen set the brake, the music changed to We Are the Champions, and we all cheered. A small memory, but indicitive of the cooperative spirit of our trip. This is our second tour with Insight and we would not hesitate to recommend it to friends. Looking forward to another adventure with Insight.

Our recent (21st August to 27th August) Canada's Rockies Tour raised the bar to a whole new level.
We met our Tour Director Ben Hutchinson at the Welcome Reception function and it became very clear that her was a person whose entire focus was about ensuring we as a group achieved maximum enjoyment.
The group quickly became a "family" driven mainly by Ben's engaging and fun filled style.
Coupled with the fantastic vista's and the easy pace of the Tour total enjoyment followed and even though we personally had a small hic up for medical reasons Ben's care and that of the broader tour group left us feeling very supported and when we again re-joined the "party" it was like being welcomed back by a caring family.
As indicated we have enjoyed many trips but this tour under Ben's guidance surpasses everything.
Excellent, Excellent and Excellent is the only way to rate this
Superb Tour Director ( look after him Trafalgar). His pride in his country is infectious and we almost adopted Canada as our new nationality.

He was also extremely knowledgeable about the history and geography of the area. Everything ran very smoothly thanks to his organizational skills. We were frequently treated to little local delicacies that were typically Canadian. Ben, our guide, genuinely cared that everyone had a good time and was taken care of. This was our 4th Insight tour and won't be our last!

We enjoyed the the additional excursions immensely (hike to the Edith Cavell Glacier, the river raft trip and the trip on the Banff Gondola). The lodgings were top notch and the food was plentiful and very good. We really enjoyed the tastes of Canada that Ben provided for us each day. Ben worked very well with our bus driver Linda and they each had many stories to tell us. Couldn't have asked for a more wonderful vacation!

All aspects of the tour delighted us and definitely satisfied our needs. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned with options catering for a range of interests and two night stops well spaced.
All hotels were of excellent standard, with a variety of styles, which was appreciated, and well situated for access to tourist centres.
The travelling days are memorable primarily because of Ben, our guide, and Linda our incredible driver (along with her immaculate "baby", our coach). It is hard to believe this was their first tour together. The team work and co operation was seamless and contributed to a wonderfully caring, stress free atmosphere on board.
Ben Hutchinson is a highly accomplished tour guide with impeccable knowledge of this spectacular part of the world and its history. He displays an infectious passion for his country and meticulous attention to detail, whereby enhancing the guests' experience. All this he delivers in a warm, light hearted appealing manner.
It would be lovely to think we would be lucky enough to have Ben as our guide if we are ever fortunately enough to return to beautiful Canada.

On our Canadian tour, we were also impressed by the excellent way that Ben and our driver, Linda, worked together to look after us. We are very much wishing we still had Linda with us as she also went the "extra mile" to ensure our touring was as close to perfect an experience as possible.

The accomodations were very clean and comfortable, and we were spoiled by mini-fridges and robes in all hotels. They were ALL centrally-located, so getting about was very easy and uncomplicated. All included meals were very good as well, and the motorcoach was kept amazingly clean inside and out. Frequent breaks and scenic stops helped to break up what could be hours of driving, but the time also flew due to the humor, talents and energy of our ingenious tour guide, Ben!

The side excursions were interesting and worthwhile. Accommodations were well chosen and appropriate to the national park expert. Fairmont Banff was as awesome as the scenery. Ben Hutchenson, our tour leader was extraordinary! We have recently returned from completing the Contrasts of Canada tour - 18 April to 1st May 2017. On Day 10 from Jasper we took the Via Rail's The Canadian leg of the tour to Toronto.
From other Aust…We have recently returned from completing the Contrasts of Canada tour - 18 April to 1st May 2017. On Day 10 from Jasper we took the Via Rail's The Canadian leg of the tour to Toronto.
From other Australians we have talked to over here in Aus. we knew that Canada would be beautiful. So we did find Canada to be beautiful, but, the sights were just so much more than expectation, amazing does not do it justice either. From the Hotel Pinnacle in Vancouver to the Sheraton Centre in Toronto, all the accommodation provided was a pleasure to stay in. Favourite highlight would be waking up to snow in Banff. Followed by the T-Bar ride down from Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler (so quiet, peaceful and the feeling like I might be skiing down myself). And, the thoughtful, wonderful people on the tour with us. People that went out of their way to come the station at Jasper to say good-bye to us when we and 3 other travellers caught the train to Toronto. However, I must also say that all the activities were marvellous experiences and unforgettable. Downside - just 2. Coffee in Canada, um tactfully, not very good and although it was a privilege, in hindsight I regret my walking on the Glacier. Ben Hutchinson. Gosh what can I say. Amazing, Fabulous, Terrific, Caring, Wonderful, and more. Ben made the trip for us. you have a lovely polished gem in that young man.

I would like to mention our tour guide Ben Hutchinson was extremely knowledgeable, (handsome, weren't we lucky) fun to be around, and went above and beyond in looking after us on our tour. He was marvelous in buying little treats for us to savour, like maple biscuits, maple whisky, Canadian chocolate and lots more. It snowed unexpectedly one night and the next morning he got a pack of food & drink made up for everyone in case we got stuck on the road. So thoughtful and really appreciated. Rich Crawford our bus driver was a delight to be around as well as very polite and polished on the bus in his manner to us all.the bus was kept immaculate as well. They made the bus trip so enjoyable. The scenery was spectacular. The food was extremely enjoyable. The whole trip run very well. Every place we visited we loved. The people were so friendly. The only added extra I would have liked would have been to be able to attend a church service on tour in our free time so to be told when & where would have been helpful. To finish with the Gold leaf train back to Vancouver was definitely a highlight. It was just so comfortable and we were waited on terrifically well. The food was amazing. The staff were so friendly and accomadating. Couldn't do enough for us. The red carpet on and off just topped it off. Thanks for a trully memorable trip.

Before I even left the UK, I had an e-mail from him introducing himse…Just returned from an escorted tour to Western Canada and had an amazing time. The Tour Director, Ben Hutchinson, was brilliant. Before I even left the UK, I had an e-mail from him introducing himself, confirming the arrangements when I arrived at the airport and suggesting suitable clothing in respect of the weather we might expect. It was a shock to me to find that I was the only one from the UK on the tour but he made sure we all mixed and I certainly didn't feel an 'odd one out'. His knowledge of the places we visited was phenomenal and he gave us lots of quirky facts which made it more interesting and entertaining. His planning was meticulous even to giving us all a packed lunch when an unexpected heavy snowfall meant that we might not have time to stop and buy lunch. He also made sure there were frequent comfort stops, much appreciated! He gave us samples of local food and drink, which we all enjoyed, and there were bottles of water, at the back of the coach, which we could buy, as he impressed on us the importance of keeping hydrated. His enthusiasm was infectious and made the holiday one to remember. I don't think any of us will think of Canada without remembering the song he kept playing which said that Canada was ' rocks and trees and trees and rocks and rocks and trees and trees and rocks and ...... water'. I had a whale of a time and much of this was because of Ben.

We definitely would come back for another tour run by Trafalgar. Ben is the best!

We had a wonderful time, with 44 similar minded people, touring the Canadian Rockies. Wonderful sunny days followed by overnight snowfalls. Fantastic sights, marvelous friendships and extremely knowle…We had a wonderful time, with 44 similar minded people, touring the Canadian Rockies. Fantastic sights, marvelous friendships and extremely knowledgeable, helpful and resourceful guide, not to forget a very competent and obliging driver in a well set up coach. Lastly the people of Canada deserve many compliments, I do not think that a more friendly and helpful people could be found anywhere else.

He kept us all organised, happy and entertained. His knowledge of the area and the places we visited was incredible and this information added so much value to the trip. His witty manner and kindness was evident by everyone. He even kept us busy on the bus with quizzes and games to complete. The tour group was a mix of Aussies, New Zealanders, Americans, British, Chinese and Sinaporeans. Everyone felt welcome and joined in the fun. Thank you Traflagar and thank you Ben!
