- Day 1
Cagliari
Pick up your rental car at Cagliari Airport (plan for 45 minutes of paperwork). Visit the historic Castello district before 11 AM to beat the midday heat. The Roman Amphitheater is quieter in late afternoon. Smart move: Park in the Marina District and use the public elevator to reach Bastione di Saint Remy instead of tackling those hills.

Villasimius Day Trip
Drive an hour east to Villasimius. Get there by 9 AM to find parking near Simius Beach. The coastal road has great views but lots of curves. Take your time. Walk 10 minutes from Porto Giunco beach to see the flamingo pond. Bring water shoes since the sand gets very hot. Take the inland SS125 road back to avoid beach traffic.

Cagliari to Oristano
The 100km drive takes about an hour on the highway. Visit Piazza Eleonora early since shops close from 1-4 PM. Is Arutas beach is 20 minutes west. Bring €5 for parking. The quartz sand is rough so pack a thick beach mat.

Oristano to Alghero
Plan 2.5 hours for the coastal drive through Bosa. For Neptune's Grotto, take the boat tour rather than climbing 656 sunny steep steps. Book the first or last tour to avoid crowds. Use the Porto Terra lot for easy old town access.

Stintino Beach Day
Leave by 8 AM for La Pelosa beach before parking fills up (1,500 visitor limit). Beach mats and shower tokens cost €3.50 each. The shallow water is perfect for families. When it gets busy, try the quieter Saline beach nearby.

Costa Smeralda
Drive 2.5 hours from Alghero to Porto Cervo. Roads are good but navigation can be tricky. Download offline maps. Park at the marina (€2/hour) since public spots are scarce. The Piazzetta gets busy after 6 PM when it's cooler and shops open again.

La Maddalena Archipelago
Take the first ferry from Palau (15 minutes, €15 round trip, every 30 minutes). A local tip: September has warm water but fewer tourists. Want to find hidden coves? Book a small boat in advance.
- Day 8
Departure from Olbia
It's 40 minutes from Baja Sardinia to Olbia Airport. Get gas in Arzachena to save money. Return your car at least 2 hours early since the process can be slow in peak season.

- Sardinia Escape: An 8-Day Island Adventure
Both our Guide, Sabrina and Driver were excellent. The only downsides were some of the Hotels that were well below the standard we expected. Hotel Mercure had lovely and helpful staff but the place needs a make-over. Hotel Catalunya was the only hotel that could be described as being 4 Star. A pity we had only one night here. Hotel Sardegna Termale had very little going for it but, worse, it was too far from the nearest town so, our two evenings were very dull. Hotel II Querceto
