Luzon Island Tours & Trips
Ready for something different? Luzon Island's Cordillera Mountains hold Banaue's rice terraces and Sagada's Hanging Coffins in northern Philippines. Ifugao farmers carved these agricultural terraces into mountainsides over centuries. Northern Luzon's highlands reveal mountain cultures where ancient terracing systems climb steep valleys throughout the Cordillera range that dominates the island's northern regions. I had a fantastic time on the 14 day Philippines West tour. The included meals and accommodation and activities were all great. This trip includes a lot of island hopping and snorkelling which is a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend the Coron extension and I hope if you book you are lucky enough to get Sheena as a tour guide! She is amazing and so much fun!

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Our winter tours in Luzon really shine during the dry season, offering a perfect mix of culture and outdoor exploration. The trip everyone keeps booking combines a trek through the UNESCO rice terraces of Banaue with genuine encounters in Ifugao villages - you'll learn directly from locals about their ancient burial customs and meet skilled weavers at work. Another solid choice takes you from historical Manila up to Mt Pinatubo's crater lake, where you'll share a traditional lunch with the Aetas tribe, served on banana leaves just as they do it. The heritage route through Vigan lets you travel by horse-drawn kalesa past Spanish colonial buildings and also explore churches built from coral stones centuries ago. In Sagada, you can trek to see the mysterious hanging coffins and venture into limestone caves, while over in Manila, cycling through Intramuros reveals layers of colonial history.

- Spring 2026
Spring weather creates ideal conditions for exploring Luzon's natural sites. Our 10-day northern circuit consistently gets great feedback, mixing volcano hikes with authentic village stays where you'll learn stick fighting, cook with locals and sleep in family homes. Up in the Cordillera mountains, travelers join community projects, trek to hidden waterfalls and experience genuine highland culture. The 4-day Sagada trip fits in cave exploration, weaving demonstrations and mountain trails - it's quick but covers all the essentials. Photographers particularly love spring visits to the rice terraces, when newly planted paddies create patterns of bright green against the misty peaks.

- Summer 2026
Summer in Luzon's highlands offers rich cultural experiences. Our small groups travel through the Cordillera mountains, staying in traditional villages where you'll discover indigenous tattoo practices and walk ancient rice terrace paths. The northern heritage route brings together colonial history with hands-on experiences - the interactive cooking sessions with Baguio's local chefs are always a highlight. Multi-day treks stop at women's weaving cooperatives, pottery workshops and also organic farms. Many tours connect with local schools and community projects, giving you real insights into mountain life.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall brings clear skies and comfortable temperatures to northern Luzon. Travelers often choose heritage journeys through colonial towns combined with treks to Sagada's hanging coffins and burial caves. Our mountain adventures are particularly popular, mixing hikes through terraced landscapes with village life - you'll craft traditional items, share community meals and stay in local guesthouses. Some trips line up with local festivals and harvest celebrations, while others focus on capturing the rice terraces when they turn golden just before harvest. Looking at the tour options in Luzon, Abraham Tours offers good value with their 4-day Sagada and Banaue Rice Terraces package - it's popular with our budget-conscious travelers who want to really understand local culture. Just keep in mind some people mentioned basic accommodations and hygiene standards that weren't quite what they expected. If you've got more time and budget, TourRadar customers who've taken One Life Adventures' 14-day Philippines Classic tour say it changed how they see the world. The company puts real effort into working with local communities and plans everything down to the smallest detail. TruTravels has also built up quite a following for their Philippines West tour. Their guides bring tons of energy and enthusiasm, and travelers particularly love spending time at Camp Carabao for what they call the "Castaway" experience - it's a chance to disconnect and live simply on a remote beach for a while. Each option lets you experience Luzon differently - from quick cultural immersions to longer journeys that really let you settle into local life. The key is picking the length and style that matches what you're after.
