I had an amazing tour guide Bono and Christian was in practice but I can already tell he'll be a fantastic tour guide. They were both so attentive and created so much fun for us all!

Gema was an absolute GEM (see what I did there? Haha). Right from the first WhatsApp message I received from her a few weeks before tour, I could tell she had incredible energy and would be leading a great tour! As I was joining the second half of the longer tour (turned out I was the only one, which was slightly awkward, but purely just the luck of the draw I presume), she communicated very clearly and comprehensively with me leading up to our respective arrivals in Cebu and we met up in the hotel shortly after we were both there to go through an intro meeting about the tour with me. She was immediately so warm and welcoming and genuinely excited to be leading the tour and having me join. This high level of energy continued throughout the entire trip as she always made sure to communicate everything we needed to know, was very quick to answer any questions we had and very responsive to any problems we might need resolving. What was best about Gema though was, despite her only being in the Philippines a relatively short time, you could tell she had fully immersed herself with the culture, the language and the locals that it appeared she was already long time friends with everyone we encountered, even if she had never met them before. As I'm getting older, I've come to appreciate a more substantive connection to the areas I visit as opposed to purely the light, tourist centric stuff, and Gema was definitely embracing that aspect with her role here, possibly more than any other non-local tour manager I've ever had (and I have been fortunate enough to have done dozens of group tours like this in my past). Overall, I couldn't imagine being in any better hands with anyone other than Gema, even a local, as she was still western and able to still relate to and understand the needs of us western tourists as well. And best of all, she was always out with us, participating in activities as if she was another member of the tour group rather than just here to do a job. As for the itinerary itself, it is hard to give a complete review as I only did the East tour (the second half of the full Tru Philippines tour) so I do not know all that was done during the first half. If you are only going to do the second half though, it is worth noting that it appears to be a much slower pace than the first half. Other than the first night in Cebu as the departure point, the tour really only consists of two stops of 3 nights each, with loads of free time. Also, aside from the stop at the church on our way to Moalboal, the tour itinerary mostly consists of water based activities and chill out time. Of course, that's exactly how this tour is described online and the activities are amazing in two incredibly beautiful locations. I personally would prefer a little more culture and locals interaction be built in, but that's just my preference and can completely understand why Tru left this itinerary light and easy, especially in the second half of the longer tour. Just worth noting so other travelers can set their expectations appropriately (speaking of expectations though, it's impossible to overstate how hot and humid it is here so be prepared to sweat! Haha). Overall, this was a great tour, and despite the lack of cultural activities built in, the chill aspect of this tour was exactly what I needed at the end of a month of solo travel. Can't wait to come back and do the first half now - hopefully with Gema!
