What people love about Greece Tours for Seniors
- Glories of Greece (Classic, Summer)
Beautiful scenery. Comfortable bus. Knowledgeable, helpful guide.
- Greek Island Explorer
Our guide raised the rating! The included meal in Mykonos was top notch but the one in Santorini (at our hotel) was substandard. Athens lodging best of 3 hotels Mykonos lodging was good except lack of hot water for two days Santorini lodging was below expectation (except pool was great)
- Classical Greece
I felt the director and driver worked real hard to make my experience the best it could be under the circumstances'. With 2 holidays taking place in this tour it was quite difficult to fully enjoy our time in Athens and caused tension among some of the fellow travelers. I received great help in the purchase of a gold necklace and thank both the driver and director for their assistance. I would highly recommend both of them and this tour-just be mindful when there are weeks with so many holidays that include the closure of all sites, stores, restaurants, etc.
What our customers ask about Greece Tours for Seniors
What type of accommodations can senior travelers expect on Greece tours?
Most tours provide 4-star hotels that cater well to seniors' needs. You'll find properties like the Crowne Plaza Athens City Center and Amalia Hotel chain in convenient locations with elevators and full-service amenities. A TourRadar traveler shared "The hotels were excellent and centrally located. The Divani Palace Acropolis had stunning views and great accessibility." The accommodations typically include breakfast on-site restaurants and round-the-clock front desk support.
Which Greek destinations are most suitable for senior travelers?
Athens Santorini and Nafplion stand out as senior-friendly destinations with reliable infrastructure and easy access to attractions. The mainland archaeological sites at Delphi and Olympia feature good pathways and rest areas. According to a TourRadar review: "Nafplion was a highlight - it's a beautiful seaside town with flat walking areas and plenty of benches to rest." Hotels like the Divani Caravel in Athens place you close to key attractions.
What is the best time of year for seniors to visit Greece?
Plan your visit during spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) when temperatures stay around 70-75°F and tourist crowds thin out. Summer brings intense heat often above 90°F especially in Athens and the islands. Most accommodations including the Stanley Hotel in Athens provide year-round climate control. As one Globus traveler noted: "Traveling in May meant perfect weather for walking tours and enjoying outdoor cafes without extreme heat."
What medical facilities and assistance are available during Greece tours?
You'll find modern hospitals with English-speaking staff in major cities like Athens Thessaloniki and Heraklion. Tour companies such as Trafalgar and Cosmos maintain connections with medical facilities along their routes. Tour directors receive training for medical situations and can help arrange care when needed. The Divani Caravel Hotel sits near several hospitals. Remember to bring travel insurance and necessary medications.
Are meals accommodated for special dietary requirements?
Tour operators readily handle dietary needs including diabetic low-sodium gluten-free and heart-healthy options. Companies like Collette and Globus let you choose meals ahead of time. Traditional Greek food naturally follows healthy Mediterranean diet principles. A TourRadar traveler confirmed: "The included meals were excellent with plenty of choices. Our guide made sure everyone's dietary needs were met." Hotel chains like Amalia offer diverse breakfast selections.
How accessible are the major archaeological sites for seniors?
While the Acropolis requires uphill walking most archaeological sites offer adapted routes for different mobility levels. Ancient Olympia and Delphi feature relatively flat paths. At Meteora you can take in views without climbing to the monasteries. According to a TourRadar traveler: "Our guide was very considerate of different abilities and made sure everyone could experience the important sites comfortably." Sites provide benches and shaded areas for resting.
How much free time versus structured activities do senior tours offer?
Tours balance guided visits with personal time. A typical day includes morning tours of major sites like Delphi or Meteora followed by free afternoons for exploring or relaxing. One TourRadar reviewer noted: "We had plenty of opportunities for photo stops and very informative whenever questions are asked. The pace was perfect - not too rushed." Most stops last 2-3 nights reducing frequent hotel changes.
