3 Week Safari
Ready to commit three weeks to an African safari that really covers ground? Extended safaris mean multiple countries and parks, perhaps Tanzania's Serengeti and Ngorongoro, Kenya's Masai Mara, Botswana's Okavango Delta, maybe South Africa or Namibia too. You see how ecosystems differ across regions, catch migrations if your timing works, spend enough time that wildlife sightings become almost routine (almost).

Reviews of 3 week Safari Tours
- Exclusive 16-Day Kenya & Tanzania Safari | Great Migration Wildlife Adventure
Planning, pickup, daily drives, and even dietary preferences—everything was handled perfectly. Zack was our guide and felt like part of the family by day two. We saw cheetahs lounging, giraffes galloping, and a sunset that took our breath away. Great food, reliable transport, clean lodges—true value for money.
- Exploring the World with Taj Mahal on an Adventurous Tiger and Lion Tour(ALL INCLUSIVE)
Overall the safari tour with Agra and Delhi was very good. Most of the accommodation lived up to a 3 to 4 star billing. Some of the travel days are very long with challenges of the Indian road system. This is a tour for an experienced traveler as it is not personally guided all the way so being used to hiccups and cultural differences is a must. The drivers were all on time and the non-safari guides all spoke conversational English. On the safaris run by the National Park reserves the English was more hit and miss. Was definitely a great way to experience India from a non-city perspective.
- South Africa Rainbow Route
The guides were fantastic and I loved the itinerary. It was an amazing trip. My only complaint is that Tour Radar took way too long to respond to my questions before the trip.
What our customers ask about 3 Week Safari
What are the main highlights and destinations covered in a 3-week safari tour?
A 3-week safari takes you through the most incredible places in East and Southern Africa. You'll track gorillas in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, watch massive herds migrate across Kenya's Masai Mara, and spot wildlife in Tanzania's Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Along the way, you'll sleep in unique places like the Mara West Tented Camp and get up close to the "Big Five" - lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo. The Ngorongoro Marera Mountain View Lodge gives you a perfect base to explore the area's rich wildlife.
What's the best time of year to take a 3-week safari tour?
The ideal timing really depends on where you want to go. If you're hoping to see the Great Migration in East Africa, plan your trip for July through October. That's when over a million wildebeest move between Kenya's Masai Mara (90°F/32°C) and Tanzania's Serengeti (81°F/27°C). For gorilla trekking in Uganda's Bwindi Forest, try the dry seasons from June to September or December to February when the trails are easier to navigate. If you're heading to Southern Africa, the dry winter months of May through October are perfect - temperatures stay between 46-73°F (8-23°C) and animals gather near water holes.
How many different national parks and reserves are typically visited during a 3-week safari tour?
You'll usually explore 6 to 8 major parks and reserves across several countries. Your journey might take you from Uganda's Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth parks to Kenya's Masai Mara and Amboseli, then on to Tanzania's Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. Each place has something special - like the unusual tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara or the huge elephant families in Tarangire National Park.
What kind of wildlife encounters can I expect on a 3-week safari tour?
You'll see an amazing variety of animals in their natural homes. Watch enormous herds of wildebeest and zebras move across the Serengeti and Masai Mara during migration season. In Ngorongoro Crater, you'll find over 20,000 large animals, including some of Tanzania's few remaining black rhinos. Amboseli offers great views of elephant herds with Mt. Kilimanjaro in the background. In Bwindi Forest, you'll get close to mountain gorillas in their forest home. One TourRadar traveler mentioned that Lake Nakuru National Park was perfect for spotting flamingos, pelicans, and lions lounging in trees.
What type of accommodations can I expect during a 3-week safari tour?
You'll stay in a mix of comfortable places throughout your trip. These include nice lodges like the Masai Mara Sopa Lodge, permanent tented camps like the Serengeti Acacia Central Camp, and if you visit Zanzibar, beach resorts like Kiwengwa Beach Resort. Places like the Ngorongoro Farm House and Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge are right next to the parks, making wildlife viewing easy. Many TourRadar travelers love the Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi because you can see animals in Nairobi National Park right from your room.
How many travelers are typically in a 3-week safari tour group?
Groups are usually small, with 4 to 12 people traveling together in specially built 4x4 vehicles. When you're exploring places like the Masai Mara or Serengeti, vehicles only carry 6 to 8 people so everyone gets a window seat and clear views for photos. Some companies like CKC Tours & Travel also offer private safaris where you can travel just with your family or friends and stay in nice places like the Serengeti Kananga Tented Camp or Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge.
