Munster Tours & Trips

Picture yourself in Ireland's southwest, where every road seems to lead somewhere beautiful. Munster covers the region, with coastal cliffs, impossibly green hills, market towns, and weathered castles. Cork, Killarney, the Dingle Peninsula, the Ring of Kerry all pack into this area. Irish weather does its thing, so layers matter, but when sunlight breaks through the clouds, it transforms everything.

We booked with Overland Ireland after speaking with several tour operators. They do small group tours with a maximum of 15 people/tour but since we had a family of 8, we decided to do a private tour with them. They were more than willing to acommodate us with this. This gave us more flexibility in what we wanted to see and do. We saw some of the more common tourist sites but also did some unique and "off the beaten path" activities, like learning to play hurling and kayaking in Dingle Bay. We also went to the Aran Islands and did a E-bike tour of the island - a great way to get around. Our tour guide/driver, Hugh O'Reilly, was amazing and made our trip! He was full of great information, stories and craic. By the end of our trip, he was part of the family. He even arranged for Champagne and Candies in our son and future daughter-in-law's room after their engagement! We would definitely recommend Overland Ireland and High O'Reilly to anyone considering a trip to Ireland.

An overall great experience. The sights, accommodations, recommendations for restaurants and music were all excellent. Our guide, Kat, was remarkable as she was knowledgeable and cool under pressure while solving problems for our group. And an excellent driver!

Lovely to travel in such a small group ,with a friendly and companionable guide. The minibus was very clean and comfortable for the most part ( back seat jarringly bumpy on some roads). The bus seemed fairly well maintained, although the seal around the aircon unit was found to be flapping about on the second day and remained so for the rest of our trip. The hotels were comfortable, clean and breakfasts were plentiful. It would have been nice to meet for 20 minutes or so before we started our tour so we could let our guide , Stevie Dailey, know our specific interests. We did introduce ourselves as we left Dublin, however it must have been very difficult for Steve to negotiate the traffic while taking in what we were each saying. We visited very many places at rapid speed, many very interesting, some less so. It would have been more relaxing if Stevie had been able to miss out on some, to spend more time in those places that we all found most enjoyable. Personally, I could have missed out the whistle stop visit to see Charlie Chaplin’s statue or the statue of the goat and others , in favour of longer at Blarney Castle or Muckross Castle. I understand that the schedule doesn’t always allow for such alterations. Altogether, a very enjoyable, if exhausting week. Thanks especially to Stevie for ensuring that my friend and I were put into a taxi at the end of the trip, so we could catch our plane home.
