TourRadar is a great company, very simple to use their app! The local company (TUI for Destinations services Thailand) mixed up the dates in 2 out of 3 hotel bookings so it was challenging but they sent me apologies. Also, they don’t send a local rep to help you with all excursions you might want to do unless you request it, which I did on TourRadar app. Other than that, My husband and I had a wonderful trip and the hotels chosen for us were Fantastic; obviously much better than what I would have picked on my own. It was also very helpful to have all transportation (door to door service) from Phuket, Phi phi islands and Krabi. Great service as it would have been way more complicated on our own! We will use TourRadar without hesitation for another trip 🤩

Had an amazing time in Thailand. Destination Services organised everything we needed while we were there. As it was self-guided, we didn't have a guide, but the team was only a message away if we needed anything at all or had questions during our stay. If you are after a super relaxing holiday, then this tour is for you!

What our customers ask about Self-Guided Tours & Trips in Thailand
What are the best regions to visit in Thailand for a self-guided tour?
The classic Thailand route connects Bangkok Chiang Mai and the southern islands. Each region offers distinct experiences. Northern Thailand centered in Chiang Mai lets visitors explore temples including Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. The south features beach destinations like Krabi Koh Phi Phi and Khao Lak where travelers can move at their own pace between islands. Bangkok works well as a starting point with good transport links to both regions. A TourRadar traveler noted about the Thailand Highlights tour: "The combination of city exploration in Bangkok cultural immersion in Chiang Mai and beach relaxation in Khao Lak gave us the perfect mix of experiences."
How reliable is public transportation for self-guided travel between Thai destinations?
Thailand's transport system serves independent travelers well. Regular flights connect major cities while comfortable overnight buses run between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Ferry services link popular islands such as Koh Tao Koh Phangan and Koh Phi Phi on reliable schedules. Many resorts like SAii Phi Phi Island Village arrange direct transfers from airports by speedboat. According to TourRadar travelers on the Thailand Island Hopping tour: "The ferry connections between islands were seamless and comfortable making it easy to explore multiple destinations independently."
What's the best way to plan accommodation for a self-guided Thailand tour?
Advance booking is important especially from November through March. Bangkok's Sukhumvit area provides easy access to public transit. The Old City in Chiang Mai places visitors near temples and night markets with options like The Empress Hotel. Beach destinations feature full-service properties such as the Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort where staff can arrange local tours. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The mix of accommodations from city hotels to beach resorts worked perfectly for our self-guided journey especially the Khaolak Laguna Resort which was an excellent base for exploring the area."
How can I ensure a smooth experience when visiting Thai islands independently?
Success with island hopping requires attention to ferry schedules and weather patterns. Visit islands like Koh Phi Phi and Koh Samui between November and April when waters are calmer. Properties like New Star Resort Koh Samui and Phi Phi Natural Resort often include boat transfers when booked ahead. Check and secure ferry tickets early particularly in peak season. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The ferries between Phuket Phi Phi and Krabi were well-organized making our self-guided island exploration much easier than expected especially with help from our beachfront resort in coordinating transfers."
What are the essential items and apps needed for navigating Thailand independently?
Navigation tools like Maps.me or Google Maps with offline capability the Grab ride-hailing app and Thai translation apps help travelers move confidently. Properties such as Hotel J Pattaya and Navinda Krabi often provide guests with local SIM cards and area maps. A TourRadar traveler advised: "Having offline maps and a local SIM card made exploring independently much easier especially when venturing to places like Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai or navigating Bangkok's canals."
When is the best time to plan a self-guided tour in Thailand?
The cool season from November to early April brings pleasant temperatures and minimal rain making it ideal for independent travel. Chiang Mai sees comfortable 25°C days during this period. Beach destinations follow different weather patterns: Koh Samui works best February through September while Phuket shines November through April. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "Traveling in December was perfect - we had fantastic weather for both city exploration and beach time."
