We were not aware when we booked the cruise that we would be the only two non-German-speaking people on the ship. Tour Radar should have emphasised this in its advertising. All the announcements were in German, as were the entertainment and activities. Luckily, Stephanie, a senior crew member with impeccable English language skills took excellent care of us from the moment we came on board until we left. Most of the bar and kitchen staff also seemed to speak English which was also a help. The trip got off to a poor start with the passengers having to be bused from Cologne - where we were supposed to begin the cruise - to Nijmegen in Holland. We were told this was because of the ship having developed engine difficulties which upset the schedule. We were only informed of this when we arrived at the Cologne pick-up point to begin the cruise. The bus journey took over 3 hours, partly because the Czech bus driver kept getting lost. We had endured a long bus ride and missed a large stretch of the River Rhine which we had greatly been looking forward to. When we returned to Cologne along this stretch it was during the night so there was no opportunity to reclaim the lost experience. As far as I am aware, there was no offer of compensation made to the passengers regarding this significant loss. Certainly, we did not receive any such offer. To end on a positive note. The cabin was lovely and the food was varied and tasty throughout the cruise. All the staff on the ship were friendly and efficient as well. In particular, Stephanie's kindness and helpfulness was a true highlight that we will always remember.

If you are keen on the Rhine River boat experience, this is a good value. The rooms were comfortable, the food was plentiful and excellent quality and variety. The shore tours were not exceptional but were usually interesting. There is little time to wander. Individual tours are offered on the ship for a fee. Pricing for tours is better as a package deal. The staff works very hard to provide a good experience. The ship was clean throughout.
