Loved the tour, no problems with trains, relaxing in between cities. Hotels were in good location from train station. Excellent breakfasts.

Excellent accommodations and tours. Aurora worked with us to extend our stay in Venice, and book shuttles to and from the airport. I highly recommend this, especially in Venice. Aurora also assisted us in booking a boat trip to Capri, which included the Blue Grotto. Again, I highly recommend this on a free day on the Amalfi Coast. Traveling by train in Italy was easy, once we figured it out the first time. Pack light, sometimes it’s a distance to your hotel from the train station. Florence was a tough walk. The trip exceeded our expectations. I am very grateful to Aurora for her expert assistance. Another bit of advice- book the Coliseum tour well in advance, and also St. Peter’s Basilica. You wont regret it.

All fine otherwise. Guide and driver great. Major drawback was Starhotels Crystallo hotel in Bergamo - very basic - no tea or coffee facilities in room - big issue with us- nil available in lobby to make a cup of tea. No way would I describe this hotel as 4* The 2 dinners we ate there basically unedible.

What our customers ask about Train & Rail Tours & Trips in Italy
What are the most scenic train routes in Italy?
Italy's prime rail routes include the swift 2.5-hour Milan to Venice connection which passes through rolling countryside and the 2-hour Florence to Rome journey that cuts through Tuscany's rustic landscapes. The high-speed network links key cities like Venice Florence Rome and Milan. Many travelers praise the Venice-Florence section where trains thread through the Apennine Mountains. A recent TourRadar passenger noted: "View from the tower on the island near Venice - over the whole of Venice was absolutely breathtaking and the train journey there was equally spectacular."
How do train tours in Italy compare to other forms of transportation?
Italian rail travel stands out for its practicality and environmental benefits. The high-speed network reaches 300 km/h connecting Milan to Venice in 2.5 hours with full-service dining cars and wide windows. Trains deliver passengers directly to city centers eliminating parking concerns. Specialized routes like the Bernina Express provide Alpine views inaccessible by other means. A TourRadar passenger shares: "I loved the train transportation and in the occasional buses provided. The trains were on time and this way we saw a lot of Italy." Properties like Hotel Antico Doge in Venice and Hotel Home in Florence sit near train stations.
What is included in typical Italy train tour packages?
Standard Italy train packages cover premium rail tickets between destinations 4-star lodging at properties like UNA Hotels or Hotel Continental Venice breakfast and local guided tours. Services often include hotel-to-hotel luggage transfer city transport passes and priority access at key sites. A TourRadar traveler reports: "Everything went pretty smooth with the trains and hotels. The tour guides were awesome." Many tours add regional experiences such as Bologna pasta workshops or Tuscan wine tastings. Station transfers and select meals usually cost extra.
What is the best time of year to take a train tour in Italy?
Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) present optimal conditions for Italian rail travel with pleasant temperatures and lighter tourist traffic. Summer can bring 40°C heat affecting comfort on trains and platforms. Winter offers value pricing but some scenic routes reduce service. For coastal areas like Cinque Terre spring and autumn provide excellent exploring weather. One TourRadar guest noted: "We went in May and had perfect weather for train travel and sightseeing plus the Grand Hotel Vesuvio in Sorrento had amazing views with comfortable temperatures for exploring."
What are the luggage restrictions on Italian trains?
Travelers on Italian trains may bring two large bags and one carry-on without extra fees. Light packing helps when managing luggage on trains and in stations which don't always have elevators. Hotels like Staycity in Venice Mestre or B&B Hotel Milano Central Station typically don't provide porters. A TourRadar participant advises: "Pack as lightly as possible - you'll be handling your own luggage on and off trains and up hotel stairs. Having a wheeled suitcase made things much easier."
How accessible are the train stations and platforms in Italy?
Major Italian stations including Roma Termini Firenze Santa Maria Novella and Milano Centrale feature modern accessibility with elevators escalators and level boarding on high-speed trains. Most stations provide luggage assistance and storage. A TourRadar guest confirms: "The trains were easily accessible and the stations well organized. The UNA Hotels and other accommodations were always conveniently located near stations." Smaller regional stops may have limited facilities so advance notice for assistance is recommended.
