I was the only person on this tour and got the same dedicated treatment as if there were a whole group. I was picked up at each stop, and given a guide and driver, then delivered to the next stop. The only hitch was a missed train because I wasn't given the correct time by either the voucher or the driver. But no problem in the end, as I was driven to the next stop instead. All the cities were very interesting and great photo ops, especially Varanasi. The cooking lesson in Jaipur, given by my guide's wife at their apartment, was especially memorable.

What our customers ask about Food & Culinary Tours in India
How much food tasting is typically included in an Indian culinary tour?
Indian culinary tours feature comprehensive tasting menus at multiple stops. A typical day in Old Delhi includes tastings of 16-18 dishes at 10 different establishments some of which have been serving traditional fare for over 110 years. Cities like Lucknow introduce visitors to local specialties at the "Bawarchi Tola" chef colony where you can try authentic Tundey Kebab and Idris Biryani. According to a TourRadar traveler: "There were endless opportunities to taste regional specialties - from street food in Varanasi to royal Mughlai cuisine in Agra we sampled over 100 different dishes during our tour."
What regions of India offer the best culinary experiences?
India's diverse regions each present distinct food traditions. The north features Mughlai influences in Delhi and Agra while Kerala's coastal south specializes in fresh seafood and spice farms. The royal kitchens of Rajasthan shape the menus in Jaipur and Udaipur and Lucknow maintains its reputation for refined Awadhi cooking. A TourRadar traveler notes: "From the street food of Old Delhi to the home-cooked meals in Kerala each region offered distinctly different flavors and cooking techniques."
What are the accommodation options on India Food & Culinary tours?
Lodging ranges from heritage properties to food-focused boutique hotels. Guests can stay at places like Jaipur's City Palace Hotel which offers royal kitchen experiences or Kerala's Kumarakom Lake Resort known for its cooking programs. One TourRadar traveler shared: "The mix of accommodations enhanced our culinary journey - from learning traditional cooking at Castle Bijaipur to experiencing modern Indian cuisine at Mumbai's Taj Hotel."
What types of traditional dishes can I expect to try on a culinary tour through Northern India?
Northern India's regional dishes reflect centuries of cultural influences. In Amritsar visitors can taste authentic Punjabi dishes like Amritsari kulcha and join community meals at the Golden Temple's langar. Delhi's street food scene includes local favorites like chaat and butter chicken particularly in the historic lanes of Old Delhi. The mountain town of Dharamshala blends Tibetan and Himachali flavors with specialties like thukpa and momos served near the Dalai Lama Temple. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "The food was absolutely incredible - from street food to high-end restaurants every meal was an adventure in flavors and spices."
When is the best time to go on a Food & Culinary tour in India?
Timing depends on your destination in India. The Golden Triangle region (Delhi Agra Jaipur) sees ideal conditions from October through March when mild temperatures suit outdoor market visits and cooking classes. Kerala's culinary experiences run year-round though December to February offers the most comfortable weather for exploring spice gardens and markets. A TourRadar traveler confirms: "The winter months provided perfect weather for our street food tours in Old Delhi and cooking demonstrations in Jaipur."
How are dietary restrictions handled on Indian Food & Culinary tours?
Tours accommodate many dietary needs including vegetarian vegan Jain and halal preferences. Destinations like Varanasi specialize in vegetarian thalis while Delhi offers customized food walks based on dietary requirements. A TourRadar traveler reports: "Being vegetarian was no problem at all - in fact it enhanced my experience as I learned about India's rich vegetarian culinary traditions and spice combinations."
