Really, the only downside was the hotels. The trip advertised all hotels would be 4-star, but I’d say only the hotel in Barcelona qualified. The Praga in Madrid was dreadful! The rest were 3-star, at best. The guides were great, the buses were comfy - although a bathroom should be included on buses that go inter-city. We walked a lot, learned a lot, and definitely enjoyed ourselves!
Rome, Tuscany, Côte d Azur, Provence and SpainGreat experience! Well organized, the group activities were super fun, and I had the opportunity to meet amazing people from all over the world.
Western Europe Group Rail Tour (18-30 year olds)Tour guide Sergi was great, really patient, helped where he could and really genuinely tried to ensure everyone was having an amazing time. However, I felt the tour itself was way overpriced for what it was. I’m used to group tours having extras/experiences and felt this was just travel (all public), accommodation and the guide. I’ve paid have the price for group tours in Europe with same duration but multiple extras/activities. I also felt the accommodations were average, some above some below so it wasn’t as if that made up for it. I really do not know where the $7k went which is disappointing. I’m on my 7th group tour now and all others have made me feel I got real value for money.

Best time to visit France, Italy and Spain
- Summer 2026
Our Mediterranean summer tours stretch 15 to 16 days with plenty of outdoor activities built in. The Rome to Lisbon coastal route gets great feedback - you'll hike between the Cinque Terre villages and join local families for cooking classes in Barcelona. Lots of our travelers love the Paris-Switzerland-Italy journey that includes a Lake Zurich boat trip and takes you up to Lyon's Notre-Dame de Fourvière by cable car. There's also this really good cultural route combining Madrid's art galleries, French Riviera beaches and Rome's historic areas. Summer means you can dive into activities like scuba in Nice and walks through Provence when the lavender is in full bloom.
- Fall / Autumn 2026
The Mediterranean really comes into its own during autumn with fewer crowds and ideal temperatures for exploring. Travelers consistently book our 13-15 day routes through France, Italy and Spain this time of year, drawn to experiences that go beyond basic sightseeing. You'll work alongside locals, kneading fresh pasta dough at Tuscan farms, crafting traditional masks in Venetian workshops and preparing tapas in Barcelona's bustling markets. Our rail journeys linking London, Paris, Barcelona and Rome give you a perfect mix of structure and freedom, with wine tastings in centuries-old cellars and seasonal food festivals adding local flavor. Customers tell us how much they enjoy hiking between colorful villages in Cinque Terre, learning perfume-making on the French Riviera and joining cooking workshops in Florence. The autumn timing means deeper connections with locals - whether you're exploring Monaco's elegant streets, discovering hidden canals in Venice or chatting with vendors at morning markets.

- Spring 2027
Spring Mediterranean tours have perfectly balanced routes through France, Italy and also Spain. Our travelers love discovering cultural paths from Rome to Lisbon in this season, when the Cinque Terre villages welcome hikers without summer crowds, and Barcelona's markets offer intimate cooking workshops. The experiences go beyond sightseeing - you'll craft perfumes on the French Riviera and taste wines in Chianti vineyards just as the countryside bursts into bloom. Vatican Museums and ancient Roman sites become far more comfortable to explore in spring temperatures, with noticeably shorter lines at major attractions. What makes these tours special is how our customers connect with local communities - learning traditional tapas in small Barcelona kitchens, discovering Venice's quiet back canals, or joining family cooking classes in Tuscany. Train journeys between destinations showcase Mediterranean coastlines and countryside vistas, while spring's mild climate makes outdoor activities like coastal walks in Nice and market visits in Florence particularly pleasant.
