Our guide was very knowledgeable but not very enthusiastic, so we took every opportunity we could to eavesdrop on other guides! Pity. We highly recommend this trip as it was really well organised and all we had to do was sit back and enjoy!

From the very first moment we met him until our final day together, every detail was flawless. Tamer’s service was exceptional—professional, highly organized, and thoughtful. He anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, ensuring each day ran seamlessly. But what truly set him apart was his spirit: kind, humble, endlessly patient, and deeply passionate about his country and its history.

With over 20 years experience, his navigation and strategy for planning and guiding the tours afforded us fewer crowds and easier access. He also provided the perfect balance of structured information and background about temples and history with free time to wander and take photos. This trip has been a lifelong dream of mine and I can confidently say, as someone who adventures a lot, this was my favorite adventure I have ever had. That is by far due to the exceptional skill of our tour guide and his network of resources that made this experience rich with joy and culture, and something I will treasure to recall for the rest of my life. I count myself very privileged to have been guided by this particular team through one of the most astonishingly beautiful and fascinating places on Earth. I would recommend this tour to first-time Egypt tourists, couples, single folks, and anyone who loves a blend of learning history with in-the-moment culture saturation. I wish we had stayed longer!

He even tailored the tour to suit us, as we’d previously been to the valley of the kings he arranged for us to visit 3 alternative tombs! If you are booking this trip and have Mahmoud as your guide best believe you are in great hands, the boat itself is lovely, sailing on days was delayed due to weather but this never affect what we were going to see! I cannot recommend adding Abu Simbel enough it is worth the 3am wake up entirely!

I highly recommend this trip; it was a fantastic opportunity to rediscover the ancient culture of Egypt. The tombs, temples, and hieroglyphics were truly impressive. Special thanks to our guide, Tamer. Despite suffering from a cold, he gave his absolute best. He was incredibly knowledgeable about Egypt and treated every single person with patience. The travel agency, Holiday in Egypt, also deserves high praise. They managed everyone’s different schedules with great care and attention to detail.
We enjoyed our 45th wedding anniversary tremendously during this trip, Egypt has a lot to offer, but I would have expected much better 5 star accommodation including on the cruise.
As far as value for money goes, and logistically, these tours are by far the best way to see the major Ancient Egyptian sites in Cairo and along the Nile. The tour guides we had, Sohaila and Tamer, were superb- they were knowledgable, calm, and managed the time of the group perfectly. Tamer, we have to say, made the group’s journey on the Nile, and to each location absolutely seamless, predicting the best times to arrive at each site. He gave the group a true experience of Ancient and modern Egypt, and was a true representative of the country. We wish both guides every success. The only issue was with some poor communication related to internal flights and direction of travel sometimes, which came quite late in the day a few times.

He made sure we were on schedule and had time to explore sites on our own after the overview tour at each stop. The cruise boat was much nicer than expected (and better appointed than it appears from the outside), and the buffet food was consistently excellent. The food is a good mix of Mediterranean, generic Middle Eastern (think Lebanese), and Egyptian specific food. Lots of healthy and vegetarian options as well. The only thing we would have wanted differently would be time in local markets, and not just pre- chosen/ directed stores that were consistently overpriced- even if the quality was high. Overall, we were thrilled with this tour and HIE (especially Tamer), and would recommend it to friends.

The GEM was amazing, the Pyramids, Sphinx were well worth seeing.
Sohaila(Sue) is a very informative guide, she was happy to find out any information if she didn't know it. She was also able to locate a wheelchair for one of our tour companions while at the GEM, and also a golf cart to help her get back to the gates.
Aswan / Luxor
Our drivers for the transfer to and from Cairo, Aswan and Luxor airports where very polite and helpful and gave information about the area.
Tamer has been outstanding.
He explained what we should expect each day. Kept us updated via the WhatsApp chat. He listened patiently to any of our complaints and concerns then addressed each one.
His timing of our tours to ensure we got the best vantage point/ view was perfect.
All the tour guides went above and beyond in showing great patience and diplomacy when dealing with our tour group.

I recently had the pleasure of doing the Historic Horizons tour which started 17 Dec and finished 24 Dec 2025. Here is my detailed review.
* Transport:
* Local drivers: the local drivers in each location were safe drivers, they knew where to go, they were professional and we had no problems at all.
* Mini buses: we had mini buses which seated around 15-20 and were comfortable and clean.
* Flights: the domestic flights which were included in the tour - first we had Air Cairo from Cairo to Aswan. Cairo airport doesn’t have much to offer in terms of food or cafes, so come prepared. Our flight was delayed twice so we ended up arriving much later than planned. This is high season and a lot of tourists are doing the same thing, meaning there will be crowds, and several delays are likely. I wouldn’t recommend booking any international flights or tours or activities right after any domestic flights because it’s highly likely it could be delayed and then you could miss your next activity or flight.
* Guides:
* Pyramids & GEM - Sohaila: very knowledgeable about history and happy to answer all the questions. Explained all the historic stories in an easy to understand way, in English. Expertly guided the group around the sites and kept us on track with the timeline to make each stop.
* Aswan, Nile Cruise & Luxor - Tamer: very knowledgeable about history and happy to answer all the questions. Explained all the historic stories in an easy to understand way, in English. Expertly guided the group around all of the sites and kept us on track with the timeline to make each stop. Provided good advice with regards to what to do, what not to do, and was flexible with the guest’s requests. It’s not an easy job but he did it well.
* Itinerary:
* I felt the itinerary was just the right amount of time at each location, and also it captured the main sights that people want to see, without wasting any time or missing anything important.
* Locations:
* Each city location was well chosen and the sights that we went to in each location were well selected.
* Accommodation:
* Cairo: Helnan Dream Hotel. Lovely hotel, nice restaurant on site. Reasonable prices at the restaurant. The hotel has nice grounds and spacious rooms. There is a kids amusement park next door which closes at 7pm. The hotel isn’t near anything so you can’t walk to any restaurants or shops. The hotel has a free shuttle to the Mall of Egypt leaving at 8pm and returning at 11pm.
* Nile Cruise: The ship was the Blue Shadow II. It was nice but a bit older. The food was buffet and had a very nice selection of food, with an omelette and pasta chef who made it to your request. The shower was short in height so it’s a bit of a squeeze for tall people.
* Luxor: Steigenberger Nile Hotel. A luxury hotel, absolutely lovely grounds with several choices of restaurants and cafes with reasonable prices. Spacious and very nicely appointed rooms with good size bathrooms.
* Cost:
* I felt the tour cost was fair and affordable.
* Restaurant prices were good everywhere.
* In the tourist sites eg at the Valley of the Kings etc, the on site cafes can be more pricey.
* Other notes:
* Hawkers - be aware that there will be a lot of hawkers and touts trying sell you things everywhere.
* Accessibility - there were a lot of places which had stairs, steps, and uneven ground. There was also a large amount of walking involved. If the person has issues with walking then they should bring someone who will help them get around as there’s not always hand rails or assistance. Not easy for people with mobility or issues with stairs.
* Every tourist site had toilets available, usually it cost 20 EGP per person to access the toilet so bring small change.

Our guide Tamer was excellent helping with so many issues and requests and deserves 5 stars. Kind and lovely gentleman who was extremely knowledgeable and patient. Many American tourists are very difficult, argumentative and complain about any bump in the road and try to manage how things are going to be done. (I’m American). Enjoy the differences of the country you are in—be a traveler not a tourist. If you want American food and culture—stay in the USA. There were other nationalities in the group that wanted to be in control and continually interrupted while Tamer was explaining what the schedule was delaying Tamer ability to manage the narrative. For instance, Tamer would say you have an hour stop to take a shower and meet back at the bus. Then the person would say no I need 1 and a half hours to take a shower, etc. trying to set the schedule and run the show. This led to many issues with people not hearing the whole program and then asking continuing questions about what Tamer had said. Try wrangling a group of 40 or so tourists to be places on time and see how it feels. Our visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum was extraordinary and the Egyptologist was extremely well educated .People were upset that there were so many people there and we had to move quickly (because of the large crowds. Guide patiently explained that there were 6 floors of exhibition and we would concentrate on 1 main item on each floor. Of course people had not understood this and were upset that they didn’t get much time in the largest new museum in the world.

We visited at the perfect time—late November—and the museums of Cairo and, of course, the pyramids were absolutely incredible.
The only nightmare was the train from Cairo to Aswan. It felt like something out of a zombie world. They call it a “sleeping train,” but it was dirty, stained, dusty, and the restroom was awful. Definitely not the experience we expected.
On the brighter side, our tour guide Tamer Mahmoud for Aswan and Luxor was wonderful—patient, kind, and professional, even with passengers who complained constantly. He handled everything calmly and made the trip so much better.
We also really appreciated that the tour leader did us a huge favor by arranging a flight back to Cairo and a hotel for only $110. They clearly understood how bad the train experience was, and their help made the end of our trip much more comfortable.
Overall, I highly recommend this tour except for the night train. Avoid the “train of hell,” if you can!

We flew from Cairo to Aswan and we were collected by tour guide Tamer and coach and driven to the cruise ship. From there it was non stop assistance and help. Check in so easy and Tamer was there to help through everything.
We had lunch with our fellow group members and each meal was shared with those lovely people who we became close to.
Every day there are temples and sites to see. Tamer was so knowledgeable about all the ancient history and nothing was an issue to him.
We learnt so much from the tour.
On day 3 there is a long trip from edfu to luxor which is so relaxing after a busy few days previously. We sat on deck and enjoyed the sun and watched life on the Nile.
Staff on the ship were amazing. They could not have been nicer or more helpful. Cabins are very comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Honestly I could not fault any of this experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks to all the staff at Holiday in Egypt and especially Tamer our guide and Mohammad who was quick to respond to any queries especially when our flight was delayed on way back to cairo. He re-scheduled the transfer time within minutes.
I hope to be back again very soon.

Tour guide for Pyramid's and GEM was Sohaila Faud who was so knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Went at a pace that suited everyone too. Next leg sleeper train - the guys/guides that assisted at train station were amazing, looked after us with hot tea and chocolate and made sure we got on right train and settled us in. Nile cruise - 10 out of 10. Ship lovely, room decent size and ensuite, clean, staff really friendly, food - buffet style brilliant, breakfast box maybe not so much bread but plenty. Drinks good selection.
What made the cruise part so special was the amazing group we were with - 12 of us in total and we were like a family. Made some good friends from around the world to stay in touch with. Then there was our guide Tamer Mahmoud - couldn't have asked for a nicer, friendly, knowledgeable guide. There was nothing Tamer didn't know and was very passionate about his job.
Moving on to Hurgarda - we stayed in the Titanic Palace which was stunning. Food top class and so much choice. All the staff went above and beyond to help. Rooms massive with swim up pool. Only downside to this is it's a long way from Luxor after finishing your sightseeing 3 1/2 hrs and even further back to Cairo - nearly 6hrs in coach but so worth it.
Would go again in a heartbeat ❤️

The aswan-luxor nile cruise was amazing! A trip to be remembered. Our guide Tamer was very nice and gave great explanations at each sites. The tour was amazing. It surpassed all expectation we had. ‘Sue’ in Cairo and Tamer from Aswan to Luxor were great. The guided tours were full of explanations and there was time to take pictures. Hote…The tour was amazing. It surpassed all expectation we had. ‘Sue’ in Cairo and Tamer from Aswan to Luxor were great. The guided tours were full of explanations and there was time to take pictures. Hotels and Cruise were excellent. The group dynamics were great! I came back with few new friends and a trunk load of memories!!

And than there was Tamer. Words don’t do justice to how our group felt towards him. He was the best guide I have met on any tour…period. Just one great person who gave us the best incite into Egypt. He made our tour utterly complete. It was a privilege to meet him.

Our tour guides Sohaila and Tamer were amazing and very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this trip!

The guide was knowledgeable, the transportation was comfortable, and everything ran smoothly.
The only recommendation I would give is regarding the tipping system. Instead of including tips in a general charge, it would feel much better to allow guests to give tips directly to the people who provide the service. This way, each person receives direct appreciation for their effort, and travelers have the flexibility to show their gratitude in a more personal way.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting Egypt.
