      Red Valley and Underground Exploration

Consider starting your day with a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Book this at least 2 months ahead during peak season. The day's main adventure begins in Red Valley, where you'll find pink-hued rock formations and hidden churches. Make sure to wear shoes with good grip since the trails can be slippery, especially in the morning. Next, visit Çavuşin, an abandoned Greek village rich in history. In the afternoon, explore Özkonak Underground City, one of the largest underground settlements in the region. One visitor shared: "The underground city was mind-blowing - bring a light jacket as it's quite cool down there, and be prepared for some narrow passages if you're claustrophobic." End your day watching the sunset from Ortahisar Castle, the tallest fairy chimney in the area.

      North Cappadocia

If you're taking a hot air balloon flight, you'll need to wake up early (5 AM in summer, 6 AM in winter). Book this well in advance since it's a popular activity. Pack warm clothes even in summer since mornings can be cold. After the balloon ride, head to the Göreme Open Air Museum around 8:30 AM before the crowds arrive. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for the cave churches, which involve some climbing. Visit Avanos to watch traditional pottery making. If you buy any pottery, pack it carefully for the trip home. Watch the sunset at Ürgüp's Three Beauties viewpoint. You might want to end your day at a Turkish Night Show, where you can enjoy traditional entertainment and dinner in a cave restaurant.

In the afternoon, visit Love Valley for some memorable photos of its unique rock formations. Leave plenty of time (90 minutes) to get from Göreme to Kayseri for your evening flight back to Istanbul.
