Amazon Rainforest Family Trips/Tours Reviews
- Manu National Park 3D-2N Tour
Nicholas was amazing. Tour was very fun and informative. Other travelers were fun.
- Puerto Maldonado Amazon Eco-Lodge 5D/4N (from Cuzco)
The tour, the people the food were all really amazing. Our guide Frank was really knowledgeable about all of the animals, we had an awesome time. The only downside was on our schedule it said the last day we would have to walk around puerto Maldonado and we’d meet at a central meeting point and they’d drive us to the bus station to catch our night bus to Cusco but instead we had the option to go somewhere but we’d have to find our own way to the bus station which we didn’t want to risk so instead they just dropped us off at the bus station at 3pm for our night bus at 9pm. Besides that no complaints and I would definitely recommend the tour to friends and family.
- Tambopata, macaw clay lick and Sandoval lake 5D/4N
It was a great experience overall. The guides were good. On the 5 day, it's quite an interruption to switch locations - I wonder if this could be made smoother. There is also the issue of illegal mining right alongside the Tambopata lodge, and the lodge is deforesting land itself for a banana plantation - we'd hope there would be ways to resolve this, and really steer the lodge into being a force for good in the environment. It would be ideal to add a few extra clothes lines for guests.
What our customers ask about Amazon Rainforest Family Tours & Vacation Packages
What's the best time of year for families to visit the Amazon?
Timing an Amazon visit requires careful consideration of regional variations. The Yasuni National Park in Ecuador sees its driest period from July to September which makes trails more accessible and wildlife easier to spot. Over in Peru's Tambopata region travelers find the most reliable weather from May to October. While these periods are ideal many Amazon lodges operate throughout the year adapting their programs to work with rather than against the seasons. Each time brings its own distinct perspective of rainforest life.
What type of accommodation can families expect in the Amazon?
Modern Amazon lodges blend jungle authenticity with family comfort. Take the Yasuni Amazon Lodge where private family cabins come equipped with en-suite bathrooms and protective mosquito nets. The Paradise Amazon Lodge near Tambopata offers what one guest describes as "quaint rustic accommodations with a cozy bar and common area perfect for families to relax together." Most properties feature shared dining spaces observation decks and some include swimming pools that provide welcome relief from the tropical heat.
How do guides accommodate families with children during activities?
Local guides in the Amazon demonstrate remarkable flexibility when working with families. Their expertise shows in how they tailor experiences to different age groups and energy levels. A recent visitor to Tambopata shared that their guide "Franklin was so knowledgeable and fun. Great for a family of 5 loved every minute." Guides create modified versions of standard excursions such as shorter trails for young explorers while maintaining both safety standards and the educational value of each activity.
What type of meals are provided for families on Amazon tours?
Food at Amazon lodges strikes a balance between local flavors and familiar options. Yasuni Amazon Lodge serves a mix of traditional Amazonian cuisine and international dishes adjusting for various dietary needs. Guest feedback often highlights the generous portions with one Tambopata Lodge visitor noting "The food was very good with huge portions and great variety including delicious salads soups and fresh fruits." Lodges accommodate special diets when informed ahead of time and maintain consistent meal schedules that work well for families.
What's the minimum age requirement for Amazon family tours?
Age requirements for Amazon tours typically range from 5 to 10 years depending on the program. Tambopata Amazon Lodge sets their minimum at 8 years while Iquitos tours welcome children as young as 5. One family shared that their "9-year-old said it was the best trip of his life" at Avatar Amazon Lodge. Some activities like ziplines may have their own age restrictions so checking specific requirements during booking helps avoid disappointment.
What are the best family-friendly activities in the Amazon Rainforest?
Family activities in the Amazon range from mild to moderately adventurous. Children can climb the 35-meter observation tower at Yasuni National Park try gentle piranha fishing in Tambopata National Reserve or watch for dolphins along the Napo River. At Cuyabeno Lodge where according to visitors "the staff went above and beyond to cater for our needs" families can swim in protected lagoons join night walks to spot nocturnal animals and learn traditional crafts from indigenous communities. These experiences create natural learning opportunities while keeping everyone engaged.
