Petra Tours & Trips
Ever thought about how Petra's rose-red cliffs hold centuries of Nabataean carving work? The Treasury showing up through the Siq passage tends to leave people speechless. When night comes, candles light everything while Bedouin music echoes off the ancient walls. Hiking up to the Monastery brings you Wadi Araba views spreading way out below, giving you a sense of what traders saw crossing through Jordan's desert back then.

Let me start by saying we had a Fabulous time and the Itinerary itself was very good and quite thorough to see all the must see tourist sites. Definitely recommend booking 2 days each side ( Amman and Cairo) if you want to experience a little more local culture, especially if travelling a long way from the Middle East. The key takeaway /recommendation to NourBelle– set expectations early and this assists in delighting both you and your customer on the journey. We booked some 8 months before and requested a full itinerary. As someone that does a lot of self planned itineraries using tours on Getyourguide, Viator and Klook- I like to see a full itinerary and look to see what other things I may want to do to extend the trip. It was like extracting blood from a stone. I got a semi-itinerary and promised a full itinerary 15 days before travel (even though they take full payment within 2 months of travel). Talking to others on the tour, seems it’s a common theme. By full itinerary, I mean the name of the Cruise ship and the airlines and flight times. Yes, we know last minute changes can and do occur. The 14 day itinerary is a collection of tours stitched together – not a problem per se but would be nice to know beforehand. The Jordan part was via a sister Company -Flow Travel. Their confirmed itinerary for the whole trip was perfect and delivered just 5 days before the tour started. I was a little concerned the initial noted hotels were old and dated and the reviews very average, but happy to report Flow have changed these hotels some time ago and I can confirm on the whole very comfortable accommodation: E.g -Amman Tulip Golden Plaza -Dead Sea Spa and Resort – a bit tired but great facilities -Wadi Rum Sharah Camp (not so luxurious….but it’s the experience of a tent LOL) -Petra Quattro – very nice Our tour driver and semi guide was Azmi. He’s not allowed to guide on site, but is very knowledgeable and shares as much information as possible beforehand. Azmi was terrific! We only had a Petra Tour guide for 2 hours onsite included in the price which we found was quite sufficient. Our driver Azmi was fabulous. He helped us buy water at local shops and also came to pick me up to go to a pharmacy when my knee was playing up. He ensured we felt safe and happy, and I’m sure he was a key contributor to why we enjoyed Jordan so much. Hands down 5/5 We paid separately for lunches and tips, and booked our own flight from Amman to Cairo. Egypt... We were transferred to our hotel, and presented with a hand drawn map, and outlined into an itinerary. The hard upsell on optional tours only available here and now on arrival, when all you want to do is get to your room, can be quite intimidating, and I think these options should be presented and bookable earlier. It certainly helps if a thorough Itinerary is more forthcoming at the beginning. We joined a group of 8 others on their 7 day Egypt tour, an additional couple joined on the 3 day Nile cruise. We then had an additional 2 nights on Jolie Ville in Luxor. Pyramids Tour: Our freelance guide Abdul was very good, albeit he did the tour at quite a fast pace. It would have been nice for perhaps an extra half hour, just to be able to absorb the magical beauty of the Pyramids more peacefully. His was very helpful in helping communicate with the tour organisers when there was confusion with flight details provided that day for the next day that did not align with some itineraries already provided. The next leg was the flight to Aswan. There is no assistance with checkin on flights, so a bit of a nightmare for the group trying to check in. The 3 day Nile Cruise was Jaz Celebrity. We were pleasantly surprised with the ship and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The 3 meals on board were quite satisfactory! We had another freelance guide Saladino for the temples during the Nile Cruise. He is very knowledgeable. Room for Improvement: Day trip to Abu Simbel – wait at reception for pickup. No idea who for, or who to contact when the guide was not on time. The other group we joined was unhappy we had joined their group and asked if our guide was sick. This is a problem with setting expectations and could have easily been fixed with both guides communicating details to both groups. Hot air balloon attendees - wait for shuttle service at reception. No escort to Hatshepsut temple – we saw many other people with guides beside them. Not sure if this was because there was an altercation the day before between the guide and one of our tour members when asked: • what the group would do between end of temple tours eta 12pm and 7pm pickup for 9.40pm flight o Checkout of accommodation at 8.30am (5.30am for those on Hot Air balloon option) o No offers of what to do o Lunch option at USD$25 which subsequently was included! Tipping confusion! USD$60 per person (not including Tour guide tips) Everywhere we went people were looking at us for Tips. It was most embarrassing given the tips we had paid ahead should have been very generous. Perhaps let us tip ourselves with direction as to minimum amounts to be paid. Also they provide a range of USD$125-$165 for entry fees and then negotiate on day one of the tour - when these are finite costs. The actual costs is in the vicinity of 5080EGP- at the time USD$108. Any booked flights you will get the details the day before – I truly believe they only book the flights the day before. Water is only provided at the hotels/cruise 2 bottles per couple per day, so buy your water at the Supermarket as early as possible. Expect to pay for all water/beverages during every meal. But everything was fine and enjoyable if you are fine with plans being provided the day before and a few hiccups here or there knowing you will be safe and will see all the wonderful sites and activities available. And ok with the upsell for more money every step of the way.

Best tour companies for Petra tours
TourRadar customers have mixed feelings about the Petra & Wadi Rum tour - the actual destinations in Jordan are fantastic, but there's been some confusion with the logistics. The main issue stems from how the tour gets passed between different companies like Bamba Experience and Tourist Israel, which has led to some tricky situations with meeting points and payments. Several travelers found themselves unsure about where to meet their group or how to handle certain payments, all because the communication between these companies wasn't quite clicking. While nobody's complaining about the incredible rock-cut architecture of Petra or the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, it's these practical details that have caused some headaches. The good news is that once people get past these initial hurdles, they really enjoy what Jordan has to offer. But it's pretty clear that TourRadar needs to work on smoothing out these handoffs between their partner companies. Having multiple operators involved shouldn't mean customers have to deal with extra confusion or uncertainty about the basics of their trip. It's a shame because these organizational hiccups are overshadowing what should be a straightforward journey through some of Jordan's most remarkable places. The feedback suggests that with better coordination between TourRadar, Bamba Experience and Tourist Israel, this tour could really shine.

Best time to visit Petra
- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter changes how you experience Petra, with cooler weather that makes exploring much more comfortable. Our 4-day tours from Tel Aviv let you combine the Roman ruins at Jerash and Petra's rock-carved sites. The winter timing works really well - you can walk through the Siq without getting too hot, and the winter sunlight creates some fantastic photo conditions at the Treasury. Our customers love that we include hotel pickups, and they frequently mention how our guides know exactly when to visit each spot to dodge both the crowds and any winter rain showers.

- Spring 2026
Spring opens up our widest range of tours, right when walking conditions hit their sweet spot and wildflowers dot the landscape. The Dana to Petra Trek stands out - you'll spend 5-7 hours each day hiking through four different eco-zones, sleep under desert stars and enter Petra through the less-visited "back door" route. If you're after something gentler, our cultural tours from Jerusalem give you two full days at Petra, including early access when the morning light makes for excellent photos. A lot of our travelers add on Dead Sea visits in spring, telling us there's nothing better than floating in those mineral-rich waters after walking Petra's paths.

- Summer 2026
The three-to-four day Petra tours blend expert timing with comfortable logistics, starting with dawn walks through the Siq when the Treasury bathes in soft morning light. Many of our travelers opt for flexible schedules mixing guided visits and independent exploration time, which lets them find shade during the intense midday heat. Dead Sea excursions are a particular highlight, as visitors can float in mineral-rich waters to refresh after walking Petra's ancient pathways. The cleverly designed multi-day tours often combine Petra with nights at Wadi Rum desert camps, timing desert experiences for the cooler sunset hours. TourRadar customers consistently note how their guides master the perfect timing for each location, balancing comfort and photography conditions, and they appreciate the included hotel transfers that help avoid the strongest heat of the day.

Fall brings just the right temperatures for our longer exploration tours - perfect for the climb up to the Monastery or wandering through the Royal Tombs. Our 7-day Best of Jordan tours really come into their own this season, and travelers consistently tell us they love being able to take their time at each site. These tours mix expert guidance with personal exploration time; you'll get detailed background at key spots like the Treasury and main street, then have plenty of time to discover hidden corners yourself. Many regular customers specifically book fall departures to catch perfect weather for combining Petra with Wadi Rum desert camping and also Dead Sea visits.

How can I experience authentic Bedouin culture while I'm there?
Head to Wadi Musa the modern town right next to Petra where you'll find plenty of chances to connect with local Bedouin communities. For a really immersive experience stay overnight in Wadi Rum at a Bedouin camp where you can enjoy traditional underground-cooked Zarb dinners and soak up the culture and music. TourRadar travelers absolutely love it especially on the Petra Wadi Rum and Dead Sea 4-day tour where you get to spend a night in a traditional goat-hair tent tucked away in Wadi Rum.
What's the best way to get to Petra from Amman?
You've got options here - take a beautiful drive down the King's Highway and you can check out some amazing stops along the way like the Byzantine mosaics at St George's Church in Madaba Mount Nebo and Kerak Castle. If you're watching your budget public buses run between Amman and Petra too. The Jordan Nabataean 4-day tour sorts out all your airport transfers while the Highlights of Jordan from Israel tour picks you up from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem and handles the border crossing.
Is Petra by Night worth checking out?
You'll find something really magical at Petra by Night where they light up the Treasury with over 1500 candles under the desert stars. It runs Monday Wednesday and Thursday nights costs per person and you can add it to tours like the Jordan Nabataean 4-day experience. It's definitely one of those memorable moments you won't want to miss.
