Petra Small Group Tours
Picture exploring Jordan's Rose City with a small group. Petra deserves multiple days—the Treasury's just the entrance, there's the Monastery, Royal Tombs, and High Place of Sacrifice. Head to Wadi Rum for desert camping, the Dead Sea for swimming, and Jerash's Roman ruins. Petra's genuinely spectacular—photos don't capture the scale.

Reviews of Small Group tours to Petra
- Red Sea Diving 8 days from Amman
My wife and I were looking to travel to Jordan with our 4 yo son from India, and we came across good reviews for Booking Tours. We reached out to them to suggest and arrange a tour, and we were not disappointed. Booking Tours arranged everything for our tour, starting from Visa on Arrival assistance (there was some confusion about Indians having to carry 1000 USD per head in cash, but we weren't asked) to a great itinerary. We had a private vehicle with an English-speaking driver, Khaled, and our tour plan covered Amman / Ajloun / Jerash / Dead Sea / Petra / Wadi Rum / Aqaba / Mt. Nebo / Madaba / Amman over 8 days. We enjoyed our experience as everything was taken care of. We had great guides arranged at Jerash and Petra, and our driver became more of a friend during the journey who helped us discover culinary delights along the way. They accommodated changes to the plan (we visited the fantastic Royal Automobile museum straight after landing at Amman) and took pains to ensure we were comfortable at the hotels. For those wondering about safety at Jordan, we found the place extremely friendly and safe. Our 4yo enjoyed the trip, clambering up rocks at Wadi Rum, trekking along the Siq at Petra and watching corals in the Neptune Submarine boat. Overall, we'd highly recommend Booking Tours.
- Petra, Wadi Rum and Dead Sea 4 days
We enjoyed our time in Jordan and had a very memorable experience. Unfortunately, I can't give the tour a higher rating as there were many mix-ups on our tour and we were disappointed to miss out on many things. We didn't realize that Booking Tours actually contracts this tour out to another company in Jordan (Travco). The lack of communication between the two companies was very frustrating for us and we lost experiences and spent a lot of time on the phone during our tour trying to sort things out. Travco worked very hard to make it up to us, which we appreciated, but it was too late to make up what we had missed. Our driver, Ash, was phenomenal. I highly recommend him. Some of the accommodations were absolutely lovely, but then some were quite dingy. The meals included were good.

The overall tour was well organised. However we got a substandard accommodation on the first day of the tour at Amman. Other days the stay was good
What our customers ask about Petra Small Group Tours
What is the ideal length for a small group tour in the Petra region?
For most travelers 4-8 days provides the right balance to explore Jordan's main attractions without rushing. A 5-day tour gives you two full days at Petra one night under the stars at Wadi Rum's Sun City Camp and time to float in the Dead Sea. Those with more time can opt for 8-day trips that include activities like scuba diving in Aqaba or hiking the Dana Biosphere Reserve. A TourRadar traveler commented: "Our 5-day small group tour was perfect - enough time to really experience each location without feeling rushed."
What is the typical group size for small group tours in Petra and surrounding regions?
Groups usually consist of 4-12 travelers which creates a comfortable setting for exploring archaeological sites like the Treasury and Monastery. This size works well for wildlife viewing at places like Dana Biosphere Reserve and allows genuine cultural exchanges at camps like Sun City in Wadi Rum. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The small group size made it possible to really interact with our Bedouin hosts and get an authentic cultural experience."
How does accommodation differ for small group tours versus large group tours in the Petra region?
Small group tours focus on intimate properties such as the Petra Guest House at the entrance to the ancient city and authentic desert camps like Sun City in Wadi Rum. In Amman you'll find stays at places like the Down Town Hotel Apartments while the Holiday Inn Dead Sea Resort offers designated areas for smaller groups. As mentioned by a TourRadar traveler: "Our small group allowed us to stay in unique accommodations like traditional Bedouin camps and boutique hotels that couldn't accommodate larger tours."
How do meal experiences differ on small group tours in the Petra region?
Smaller groups can enjoy more personal dining settings from traditional Bedouin feasts under the stars to cooking lessons in local homes. These tours often eat at family-run establishments like Al-Qantara in Petra instead of large tourist restaurants. The setup makes it easier to handle dietary needs and learn about local food culture. One TourRadar traveler noted: "The small group size meant we could eat at local family restaurants and even join in cooking traditional Jordanian dishes."
What transportation options are available for small group tours in the Petra region?
Tours use minivans or 4x4 vehicles that can reach places big buses can't like the village of Dana or Shobak Castle. For desert exploration in Wadi Rum groups take Bedouin jeeps while transfers between major points like Queen Alia Airport and Petra happen in modern air-conditioned vehicles. A TourRadar traveler shared: "Having a smaller vehicle meant we could access hidden viewpoints and take scenic routes that bigger buses couldn't manage."
How does the cost compare between small group and large group tours in Petra Region?
Small group tours cost between USD 200-350 daily while larger groups typically pay USD 150-250. The higher price includes benefits like dedicated guides better lodging options such as the Larsa Hotel in Amman and more flexibility at historic sites. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The extra cost was worth it for the intimate experience and personal attention from our guide especially when exploring complex sites like Petra's Treasury and the Royal Tombs."
