What people love about touring Switzerland solo
- Swiss Miracle
The tour was well paced, we saw a lot without being rushed. Being in a small group made for a nice experience. Vitaly was a great guide, gave us a lot of interesting background and made sure everyone was accommodated. It was a good value given how expensive Switzerland is. I highly recommend this tour
- Switzerland adventure in 9 days - (Zurich, St. Gallen/Appenzell, Interlaken and Lucerne)
Paris and Swiss in May is beautiful and even more bliss when you don't travel in group.
- Stunning Switzerland
Very accommodating tour guide (Vitalii). He was a great source of information about all things Switzerland during the tour. Vitalii also sent me info about 'Crash Landing on You' famous filming sites and where to find them in my free time. The main program was well constructed, and allowed my mum and I to experience a great deal of Switzerland in just a few days. Nearly every landscape we visited was picturesque. The tour was very good value for money. I would recommend this tour. Oh and the bus driver (Jean-Marc) was extremely good - we always felt safe traveling with him. Met some very nice people on the tour too. We did the tour in mid-June where we had 35 degree Celsius days (95 degrees Fahrenheit) and almost as warm nights. Would recommend to avoid doing the tour in peak summer-heat because Swiss Hotels do not really air-condition their rooms which makes it very hard to sleep. The tour operator cannot control this so it isn't a negative against them, just a word of warning for future tourists to be mindful it can be very hot and humid at night in peak summer in Switzerland.
What our customers ask about Switzerland Tours for Solo Travelers
How safe is Switzerland for solo travelers on guided tours?
Switzerland ranks among Europe's safest destinations with low crime rates and reliable infrastructure. The public transportation system runs like clockwork and connects all major tourist spots. Popular areas such as Lucerne's Chapel Bridge and Zurich's Old Town have good lighting and regular police presence. Hotels like the Hotel d'Angleterre in Geneva provide round-the-clock reception and secure entry systems. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Our guide ensured everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout the journey especially during evening activities in cities like Montreux and Interlaken."
What's the best time of year to join a guided tour in Switzerland as a solo traveler?
The most favorable months are June through September. During this time mountain trails are open and weather conditions are reliable for outdoor activities. You can fully access attractions like Mount Pilatus near Lucerne and the Trümmelbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen Valley. A TourRadar traveler noted: "I travelled end of April/first of May. It was a good time to do this tour as you got to see the extremes of Switzerland....lots of snow still on the ground but also lovely green in the valleys."
Are single supplements mandatory on Switzerland tours or can I share a room?
Tour operators handle single supplements differently. Companies like Cosmos and Globus let solo travelers share rooms with other same-gender travelers to avoid extra costs. When single rooms are required the supplements cost between $400-800 USD for week-long tours. Properties like Hotel Blumlisalp in Kandersteg and Hotel Adler in Zurich offer single rooms but need advance booking.
What social activities are typically included for solo travelers on Switzerland tours?
Tours usually include group activities that bring travelers together. These range from welcome dinners in Zurich to cheese fondue nights at local restaurants. Group hikes in Grindelwald and Murren plus scenic train rides on the Glacier Express create natural settings for conversation. Hotels like the Hotel Allalin in Saas-Fee support socializing through shared spaces and evening events. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The group dinners and train rides were perfect for getting to know other travelers while enjoying Switzerland's beauty."
What's the typical group size for Switzerland guided tours suitable for solo travelers?
Most tours keep groups between 8-15 people which creates good dynamics for solo travelers. Places like Hotel Modern Times in Vevey and Hotel Seiler au Lac in Interlaken provide comfortable common areas for group gatherings. According to TourRadar travelers "the small group size was key to enjoyment in contrast to 55-passenger buses of other tours. It was intimate and we all got along."
What kind of accommodation style is available for solo travelers?
Most tours book 3-4 star hotels that cater well to solo travelers. Properties like Hotel d'Angleterre in Geneva and Hotel Seiler au Lac in Interlaken offer modern rooms with private bathrooms and breakfast included. One TourRadar reviewer noted: "The hotels were consistently good quality with excellent locations for exploring during free time especially the Hotel Modern Times in Vevey with its proximity to Lake Geneva."
