Mountain biking takes you from Nepal's high-altitude trails through Europe's Alps to Andean slopes and North America's Rockies. These aren't roads – they're technical descents and lung-busting climbs through terrain that'll test you. Very well organized travel experience. Fantastic meals, surprisingly nice accommodations - at both hotels and hostels. You always have shower, electricity and private bathrooms. All of the adventures (biking, rafting, zip lining—trekking) were facilitated masterfully and flexibly. The Inca Trek to the Monkey House and beyond had breathtaking views of the Andes. Our guide, Jonathan, made great recommendations to our crew- to leave early and beat crowds— so for each of our outings we were almost always there first- and by the time we were leaving we noticed lines forming. Your guide will likely offer you options- I encourage you to go as early as is offered. Jonathan, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable without being intrusive. His love for his culture and the local traditions was evident in the way he engaged us. He is highly accessible and will answer any question you may have. Our group had a WhatsApp chat going- so we were always on the same page. This 7 day excursion really had it all. This is the way to go- in terms of seeing one of the seven wonders of the world, learning about the culture, history and food of the region, enjoying thrilling adventures (physically), and meeting people from across the world. There is enough down time built in for introverted types- so if you’re worried about the social aspects- don’t. Insect repellent is critically important. Almost everyone you see has multiple bug bites on their ankles and exposed areas. This is no joke. Hiking pole was useful on the uphill…. Sunscreen. Poncho…. for Nov on (wet season).

This was an excellent trip starting in the capital and ending with the jewel in the crown Siem Reap. The cycling was fabulous - good bikes, no big gradients, nice pathways, the kayaking was great fun and the hike was hot but ok. Loved siem Reap temples, would spend longer at the end there

A very nice sampling of Costa Rica: cloud forest, volcano, Caribbean beach. The tour guide, Jonathann was excellent. Good for those looking for moderate physical activity: some white water rafting, biking, hiking, with options for more (zip line, etc), a visit to a wildlife sanctuary, waterfall swim, more. Travel between was by public buses, hotels were clean, comfortable, modest. Small group size, international mix of travelers.

What our customers ask about Mountain Bike Tours & Trips
What accommodation options do Mountain Bike tours offer?
The style of lodging really depends on where you're going. In European destinations like the Loire Valley, you'll stay in nice 4-star hotels like Château Belmont in Tours. If you're doing the Nepal Annapurna Circuit, expect a mix - basic but clean mountain lodges during the trek, then 3-star hotels like the Ayni Cusco when you're in bigger cities. Most places have private bathrooms, though amenities get simpler the more remote you go. One nice thing is you'll usually stay 2-3 nights in each spot, giving you time to settle in.
How many hours will I spend biking each day?
Most days you'll be on your bike about 4-6 hours. In the Loire Valley, you'll cover about 25-37 miles at an easy pace that lets you take in the scenery. The Andorra rides are similar - about 4-5 hours exploring quiet valley roads. Some routes are more challenging though. On the Annapurna Circuit, a TourRadar traveler mentions that "some days we rode up to 31 miles with quite a bit of climbing."
Are meals part of the package?
It varies by tour. The Loire Valley trips include breakfast every day plus some group dinners. In Nepal, all your meals are covered during the trek and you get breakfast in cities. Costa Rica tours typically include 7 breakfasts and 2 lunches, leaving you free to try local spots for other meals. A TourRadar traveler on the Andorra tour said "the food was fantastic with multi-course meals that were perfect for hungry cyclists."
When's the best time of year to go?
It really depends on where you're headed. For the Loire Valley, aim for April through October when it's mild and the trails are dry. The Annapurna Circuit is best in spring (March-May) or fall (September-November) when temps are comfortable and you get clear mountain views. Costa Rica? Book between December and April during dry season when the trails are in good shape. Each place has its sweet spot weather-wise.
What's a typical daily distance?
You'll usually cover between 25-50 miles per day, but it varies with the terrain. Along the Moselle River, expect about 30-43 miles daily on mostly flat paths. The Kathmandu Valley rides are shorter but more challenging - about 20-30 miles with some serious climbs. The good news is there are plenty of breaks. As TourRadar travelers mention, you'll find lots of great viewpoints along the way, so the miles go by pretty quickly.
