28 Day East Coast Australia Itinerary, incl. Sydney and Cairns
An extensive 28-day route covers 12 destinations from Sydney to Cairns. Notable stops include 3 days in Byron Bay, 3 days on K'Gari, 2 nights sailing Whitsundays, and 4 final days exploring Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef's outer locations.

- Days 1-3
Sydney & Coastal Start
Your East Coast Australia journey begins in Sydney. The airport transfer to the city center takes about 30 minutes. "The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk was a highlight - bring sunscreen and water, it gets hot even in winter," notes one traveler. Spend your first days at iconic Bondi Beach and take the scenic coastal walk. Book your surf lessons in the morning when the winds are calmer and before the crowds arrive.

- Days 4-6
Byron Bay Surf & Nature
Take the overnight bus north to Byron Bay (9 hours). This is where you'll experience true Aussie surf culture. Walk up to Cape Byron Lighthouse for sunrise. It's a 45-minute climb but you'll beat the crowds. Surf lessons are best between 7-8 AM when conditions are optimal. Book your accommodations early if visiting during peak season (December-February).

- Days 7-10
Gold Coast & Brisbane
- Days 11-14
Fraser Island Adventure
It takes about 4 hours to reach Rainbow Beach from Brisbane. From here you'll join a 3-day K'gari (Fraser Island) 4WD adventure. "Pack light for Fraser - you'll be moving between camps. And bring insect repellent, the sandflies can be fierce!" advises a traveler. If you get motion sick sit near the front of the 4WD on the inland tracks.

- Days 15-17
Whitsundays Sailing
- Days 18-21
Magnetic Island & Mission Beach
- Days 22-28
Cairns & Great Barrier Reef Finale
Finish your trip in Cairns exploring the Great Barrier Reef. Schedule your reef trip on the first good-weather day in case of cancellations. "The Atherton Tablelands day trip was incredible - the natural rock slides and waterfalls were a highlight, just bring water shoes as the rocks can be slippery," shares one traveler.

What people love about 4-week Australia tours
- Oz East Coast Adventure 28 Days
My Oz East Coast trip was the most incredible experience. All of the activities were so fun and I ticked off so much of my bucket list. Honourable mentions include: the Whitsundays trip and the Cairns waterfall tour. Our lovely tour guide Mia was amazing and made the tour run smoothly. Her knowledge of each area made each activity more interesting and she did such a good job in making sure we all felt included in all activities. She also helped us book all additional activities we wanted to do, including a skydive and Fitzroy island, both of which I loved. All of the accommodations were great and i loved not having to stress about transport or booking things independently. It allows you to really enjoy the places you’re visiting without any worries. I’d recommend this company/ tour to everyone. I’m going back home with best friends and the best memories ever. Thank you Mia and thank you Intro travel for the best trip ?
- Oz East Coast + Work 28 days
