We had a great tour with Nicolas and Gael all across France! Let's hit all the positives. Nicolas was a GREAT tour guide. He was knowledgable, warm, personable, and kept things moving along smoothly. Gael was an excellent driver of a very nice coach. The ride was smooth and even in traffic, Gael had everything under control. The local guides were terrific. I want to warn you though - this tour is exactly what it says. It's 21 cities in 12 days. And that's a grueling pace. Now, we got a taste of most of the best French locations, about 2 or 3 hours in each city along the way. It was like a tapas of France - you have enough time to get a good feel for the city you're in. We never felt rushed, but we never felt like we could just lounge around either. However, to keep this pace up for two weeks is a bit rough. We love the fact that we did this tour, and that we got to see all of these places. Having been there, we now know exactly which ones we want to go back to, and which ones we can skip next time. But never again! It's just too much for us senior citizens to have to haul our bags and unpack and repack almost every day. (There are a couple of times on the tour where you spend two glorious days in the same hotel, but those are few and far between!) Again, if this is what you want - to see most of France outside of Paris - then yes, this is a GREAT tour. We had a GREAT time, and this is exactly what we wanted to see/do. But, if you want more than a couple/three hours in each location, and you want to stay in one city for a few days as a base to explore others, than this tour is NOT for you.

Most France coach tours take travelers through an extensive network of the country's celebrated sites. In Paris you'll visit the essential landmarks: the Eiffel Tower Notre Dame and the Louvre. The route continues to the Loire Valley's grand châteaux such as Chambord and Chenonceau followed by the somber World War II sites in Normandy including Omaha Beach. The journey extends to ancient walled cities like Avignon and Carcassonne and through notable wine regions such as Bordeaux and Burgundy. Accommodations include well-located hotels like the Novotel Amboise in Loire Valley. As one TourRadar traveler notes "The itinerary hit all the must-see spots while also including lesser-known gems like the medieval village of Rocamadour."
What is the typical daily schedule like on a coach tour through France?
Each day begins with breakfast at 7-8am followed by departure for sightseeing around 8:30-9am. The typical route includes 2-3 daily stops at key locations with comfort breaks every few hours. A day in Provence for instance starts with the Roman amphitheater in Arles continues to Avignon's Pope's Palace for lunch and ends with wine tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Arrival at hotels like the Novotel Avignon Centre usually occurs by early evening. According to a TourRadar traveler: "Our guide Bruno organized everything perfectly with a great mix of sightseeing and free time to explore on our own."
What's the best season for a coach tour in France?
The prime touring season in France spans April through October. Spring brings mild temperatures perfect for exploring Loire Valley gardens while summer draws visitors to the French Riviera's beaches. Fall offers special appeal for wine enthusiasts particularly in Bordeaux and Burgundy during harvest. Hotels like Mercure Avignon Gare TGV serve as comfortable bases throughout the seasons. One TourRadar traveler shares: "We went in September and the weather was perfect - warm enough for the beach in Nice but not too hot for exploring cities."
How much ground do France coach tours typically cover?
Tours cover between 150-300 miles daily connecting major regions across France. A standard 9-day itinerary might begin in Paris move through Burgundy to Lyon then south to Provence and the Côte d'Azur. Stops include cultural centers like Avignon Arles and Nice with stays at properties such as the Mercure Nice Centre Vieux. A TourRadar review notes: "The routing was excellent - we got to see so much of France without feeling rushed and the coach was very comfortable for the longer stretches."
How do coach tours handle meals in France?
Daily breakfast comes standard at hotels along with several group dinners featuring local cuisine. Special dining experiences might include wine tastings in Bordeaux or dinner at a family-owned château in Loire Valley. Lunches are typically independent allowing for personal exploration of local eateries. One TourRadar traveler reports: "The included dinners were fantastic especially the welcome dinner in Paris and the regional wine tasting experiences."
How much free time is available during coach tours in France?
