Wildlife Trekking in Asia

Hike 12 kilometers through Phnom Kulen's jungle with elevation gains of 253 meters, passing the River of a Thousand Lingas to reach the waterfall, then trek 4 kilometers over 90 minutes from Ban Nong Heo through forested hills to Ban Thapene where you'll spot buffaloes in Khmu villages. Walk 14 kilometers across Angkor's temples including Ta Prohm's root-covered structures and follow narrow forest trails to Pak Ou Caves.

Head through Asia's Mekong region from Vientiane's Pha That Louang golden stupa to the UNESCO-listed Vat Phou pre-Angkorian temple complex in Champasak. See Si Phan Don's 4,000 Islands by boat, visiting Don Som, Don Thorlathee, and Don Xang islands while watching traditional bamboo crafts and rice paper making.

Walk remote Sapa trails from Suoi Thau to Nam Cang village, where Red Dao and Black Hmong communities practice traditional silversmithing and fire dancing. Hike through Hoang Su Phi's terraced rice fields with tea-picking experiences and stay at Panhou Retreat and Hoang Su Phi Bungalow. Trek to Ngu Lam Peak on Cat Ba island after touring Trung Trang Cave and kayaking among Lan Ha Bay's limestone formations.

Trek through Nepal's rhododendron forests up to Poon Hill at 3,210m, where you'll catch sunrise views over Mount Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu before heading down to Ghandruk village. Later, check out UNESCO-listed Chitwan National Park with elephant-back safaris, canoeing along the Rapti River, and bird watching where Bengal tigers and one-horned rhinos roam.

Travel from Kota Kinabalu across the Crocker Range to Mount Kinabalu National Park, home to 326 bird species and rare Rafflesia flowers. Track wildlife along Kinabatangan River during morning and afternoon cruises, spotting proboscis monkeys and saltwater crocodiles, then watch Green and Hawksbill turtles nest at Selingan Island.

Trek 10 kilometers through Ratanakiri's jungle trails gaining 300 meters elevation to reach tribal villages, traveling by traditional koyoun and sampling local rice wine.
