My trip to and journey through Pakistan was excellent. I started off in Karachi, and was met with a bouquet at the airport by my fantastic guide Azim, and equally fantastic driver Ijaz. Both Azim and Ijaz were my constant companions for the entirety of the trip, which ended in Islamabad. Azim was detailed oriented and supremely knowledgeable, taking care of everything in a very professional way. Ijaz was the most careful driver, and kept us safe through different types of terrains, roads, traffic and weather conditions. I am grateful to both of them for their professionalism and friendship. The tour itself was excellently curated. It was everything I expected and more. I experienced, shrines, mosques, temples, museums, archeological sites, markets, villages, towns, cities and the countryside. It was a full experience, and one of the most memorable I have had.

Gypsy Traces & Tours is one of the tour companies in Pakistan that offer KKH tour. The performance ratings and their flexibility is par excellence. Bakhsh, the Director of Operation, arranged all necessary documents needed for the tour including my visa. Albeit, we communicated only through social media, I noticed he has a down-to-earth personality and my inkling was right on the nose when I met him personally. From day one, I was warmly welcomed by Asad at the airport. He checked my hotel room to make sure everything is perfect condition, treated for breakfast. What a guy! A friendly atmosphere and fantastic start. Second day, comes the GOAT, Azim, my personal tour guide, extremely good and very flexible, friendly as well. He has a warm personality, a highly motivated tour guide (recommendable!). He made me feel at home. On the 4th day of tour, I wasn’t feeling well, I was nauseous, dizzy & had flulike symptoms. He took actions into his own hands. He brought me to ER, stayed with me the entire duration until I was fully recovered. Who will forget that? All respect for Azim who did a great job. A true sample of excellent tour guide. Proceeded to the tour itinerary, the scenery of KKH is spectacular surrounded by humongous massifs, I was in awe! It’s enchanting, fascinating and extremely breathtaking landscapes. Couple of the world’s tallest mountains, the Nanga Parbat, 9th world’s highest (26,660 ft), Rakaposhi, ranked 27th along KKH & few glaciers are visible along the way. The world’s highest border crossing, the Khunjerab Pass, with elevation of 15,439 ft, an international high mountain pass between Pakistan & China. It’s awesome. Our driver is a guru to navigate & maneuver the treacherous roads of KKH. Kudos to Gypsy Traces & Tours, they helped me executed my dream into reality. Great job! Shoutout to Azim, Bakhsh and Asad. With their expertise I reached the pinnacle of my global adventure/journey.

Best tour companies for Pakistan tours
From what our travelers tell us, three companies stand out for exploring Pakistan's northern regions. Exploria gets consistently good feedback for their guided trips through the Hunza Valley and Karakoram Mountains - their local guides really know the territory and help visitors connect with local communities in meaningful ways. Gypsy Traces & Tours has built a solid reputation with their Fairy Meadows and Premium Pakistan packages. Their team is quick to respond when needed, picks comfortable places to stay and works with guides who share fascinating stories about the region's past and present. For anyone interested in Gilgit-Baltistan specifically, Crossroads Adventure comes highly recommended by our customers. Two of their guides, Altaf Ahmed and Sultan Uddin, get mentioned often in reviews for going above and beyond - whether it's explaining local customs, finding the best photo spots or making sure everyone's comfortable on long driving days through the mountains. The nice thing about these operators is they all know how to balance showing you the major sights while also taking you to places most visitors never see. They've figured out the logistics of traveling in some pretty remote areas, which lets you focus on enjoying the experience rather than worrying about the details. [Note: I've maintained the key information while making it flow more naturally and personally, removed problematic words, and integrated specific details in a conversational way]
Best places to start your Pakistan tour
Most of our Pakistan tours start from Islamabad - about 81% of customers begin there. While you can start from Lahore, Karachi and sometimes Hunza Valley or Skardu, Islamabad just works better with all the connections and infrastructure. Looking at our bookings across different seasons, you'll want to lock in your tour about 58 days ahead. This extra time helps us sort out alternatives if mountain weather affects flights. It's smart to build in some wiggle room at the start of your trip and pack some snacks for the longer drives. Our travelers particularly love visiting in spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) when temperatures are mild and mountain views are really clear. The Hunza Valley is especially nice these times of year - you'll catch either the apricot trees in full bloom or rich autumn colors, depending on when you go.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Pakistan is perfect for exploring the southern regions - you'll find comfortable temperatures that make sightseeing a pleasure. Our cultural tours take you through Sindh and Punjab where you can take your time discovering ancient Indus Valley ruins at Mohenjo-daro and Harappa without getting too hot. Karachi really comes alive in winter; our travelers love spending evenings at the museums and taking relaxed walks on Clifton Beach when the weather cools down. Lahore and Multan are at their best now too - you can spend whole days wandering the old bazaars and really appreciate the details of grand Mughal sites like Badshahi Mosque. The desert tours around Derawar Fort and Cholistan work brilliantly in winter with cool, clear skies and excellent visibility.

The cherry blossoms transform northern Pakistan in spring, and we time our mountain tours perfectly to catch the full bloom. Photographers in our groups love shooting in Hunza Valley where pink and white flowers frame the snowy peaks perfectly. Spring kicks off our Karakoram trekking season - we take routes from Skardu into Nangma Valley just as local shepherds move back to their summer grounds. The spring tours get you right into local life - you'll cook with families in Hunza, visit the working gardens at Khaplu Fort and catch authentic music shows. Baltistan is wonderful this time of year too, with ancient Buddhist sites and traditional villages set against orchards in full bloom.

Summer opens the door to high altitude adventures and our Karakoram tours really shine. We take experienced hikers on routes to remote base camps, crossing exposed bridges like the famous Hussaini Bridge - it's quite an adventure when you're suspended high above the gorge! The Hunza Valley cultural tours in summer let you join in with the apricot harvest, explore old mountain forts and catch the sun setting from Duikar viewpoint. Our groups particularly enjoy camping in Nangma Valley where local Balti performers share their music under the stars. The Karakoram Highway journeys hit their stride in summer too, with clear weather giving you amazing views of giants like Nanga Parbat and also Rakaposhi.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
When autumn colors paint the northern valleys, our photography tours really come into their own. The cultural routes through Hunza and Gilgit capture something special - you'll photograph ancient forts in golden light, visit villages during harvest and take mountain flights that show off the fall colors. Our travelers tell us they love how the autumn tours mix activities like hiking to Passu Glacier with genuine local experiences such as making traditional soups with families. Down south, the cultural circuit linking Lahore, Multan and also Bahawalpur works perfectly in fall - you can take your time exploring Sufi shrines, historic markets and Mughal monuments in comfortable temperatures.
