Reviews of Small Group tours to Patagonia
- Journeys: Discover Patagonia National Geographic
The original itinerary was good. However upon our arrival at Iguazu Falls the hotel was changed (called and upgrade) and the cultural Dinner Experience date was changed from 1/26 to 1/25. On 1/25 we toured the Brazil side of the Iguazu Falls in the afternoon. The time to complete the Brazil side tour was quite close to the time for the dinner. At the Brazil to Argentina border crossing there was a 2 hour delay that can often happen when crossing the border. Due to the change in the dinner date we were unable to make the pickup time of 7pm. We did not arrive back to our hotel until 8pm. The change in the hotel the last minute was to The Iguazu Jungle Hotel. Although the accommodations were very nice, we had to walk up and down a cobblestone hill to the building where our room was located to the Lobby and Restaurant facilities. This hill was very steep and we even had to use our iPhone flashlight to negotiate the path to the restaurant and back to our room. We would have liked to have less of a hilly trek to get around the hotel grounds, which was difficult to negotiate even though we are physically fit athletes.
- Argentina & Chile: Amazing Patagonia - 13 days
The Best of Patagonia 13 Days, El Calafate to Ushuaia, was a fantastic experience. The country was amazing, steppes, forests, the Andes Mountains, glaciers and beautiful deep blue coloured lakes. El Calafate and El Chalten were both very beautiful, El Chalten being the trekking capital of Argentina. Further south in the Chilean towns of Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas we continued to experience wonderful country. The bus ride from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia was long but again through interesting scenery and events - ferry crossing of the Magellan Staits, entering and leaving Chile and Argentina, and the wonder of the final passage into Ushuaia, the most southern city in the world. Transport was very comfortable, convenient and reliable, pick ups always being on time. Accommodation was very comfortable, breakfasts were great, and the staff very friendly and helpful. Any thing that needed attention was dealt with very quickly and in a very efficient manner. Fully recommended. Thank you to Lujan and Marcela for their prompt communication and suggestions to make our stay so memorable.
- Hiking Fitz Roy & Torres del Paine National Park - GROUP TOUR
I travelled with the company in November 2019 and the experience was incredible. I joined one of their group tours and it was amazing. The group departure was in Spanish, English and German which was great for me because in this departure were a lot of German people and a main guide who spoke German perfectly well. In the group were 13 passengers which was the perfect amount of people to share a hiking trip and the group was what made this trip unique. I am also in touch with Andrea and Matt, who became very close friends of mine. All services were absolutely great, the camp, the hotels, the transportation. I can only recommend that we should all do a group trip for once in our lives.
What our customers ask about Patagonia Small Group Tours
How far in advance should I book a small group tour in Patagonia?
For the best selection and availability booking 6-8 months ahead is essential especially during the peak season from December to February. Data shows travelers book on average 303 days in advance with sought-after lodgings like Refugio Grey and Torres Central reaching capacity early. A TourRadar traveler advised "booking in advance is crucial as the small group tours fill up quickly especially during high season."
What unique accommodation experiences are available on small group tours in Patagonia?
The accommodation options range from intimate mountain lodges to boutique hotels that cater specifically to small groups. Groups typically stay at properties like Los Cerros Boutique Hotel in El Calafate with views of Lake Argentino or the four-room Kaulem Hosteria in El Chalten. Hotel Las Torres in Torres del Paine offers rooms with direct views of the mountain range. A TourRadar traveler noted "Don Los Cerros at El Chalten was very nice - luxurious superb location and views with excellent personalized service perfect for our small group."
What level of fitness is required for small group tours in Patagonia?
Tours require above-average fitness as daily walks can last 5-10 hours and cover distances of 10-20 kilometers. The Base Torres trek is a good example requiring hikers to gain 2297 feet in elevation over 12.4 miles. TourRadar travelers note that "the trek is challenging but manageable with proper preparation and guides adjust the pace to accommodate the small group's abilities."
What kind of guide support can I expect on a small group Patagonia tour?

In Torres del Paine guides like Francisco share detailed knowledge about local wildlife plants and geology. A TourRadar traveler noted "our guide was exceptional sharing knowledge about plants mountain names and spotting condors throughout the trek."
How do meal arrangements work on small group Patagonia tours?
The smaller group size allows for more personal dining experiences from local restaurants to special arrangements at places like Madero Tango in Buenos Aires. Remote locations such as Torres del Paine feature custom meals at refugios and camps. According to one TourRadar traveler "The small group size allowed us to have dinner together and share experiences while trying local Patagonian specialties."
How does transportation work on small group Patagonia tours?
Transportation combines private and public options with comfortable minivans designed for 4-8 people.
