3 Days in Cappadocia, incl. Red Valley and Underground Cities
Cappadocia's 60-million-year-old geological marvels spread across 3 immersive days. Starting at approx. $140 per day, visitors trek through Red Valley's rock-cut churches, fairy chimneys, and the vast Ozkonak underground city. Sunak Boutique Cave Hotel serves as base for tours of Cavusin Greek village and towering Ortahisar castle.

- Day 1
Arrival in Cappadocia
Plan to arrive at Kayseri Airport in the morning to make the most of your first day. The hour-long transfer to your cave hotel offers stunning views of the volcanic landscape. Try to sit on the right side of the vehicle for the best views. Once you've checked in, spend the afternoon exploring your base town. Most cave hotels are in Göreme or Ürgüp, both ideal locations for your stay.

- Day 2
Red Valley and Underground Exploration
Consider starting your day with a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Book this at least 2 months ahead during peak season. The day's main adventure begins in Red Valley, where you'll find pink-hued rock formations and hidden churches. Make sure to wear shoes with good grip since the trails can be slippery, especially in the morning. Next, visit Çavuşin, an abandoned Greek village rich in history. In the afternoon, explore Özkonak Underground City, one of the largest underground settlements in the region. One visitor shared: "The underground city was mind-blowing - bring a light jacket as it's quite cool down there, and be prepared for some narrow passages if you're claustrophobic." End your day watching the sunset from Ortahisar Castle, the tallest fairy chimney in the area.

- Day 3
Departure
3 Day Cappadocia Itinerary, incl. Istanbul and Göreme
A 3-day Turkish expedition links Istanbul and Cappadocia via domestic flights. Marvel at ancient churches in Goreme Open Air Museum, witness Avanos's 5000-year-old pottery tradition, and wander through Rose, Red, and Love Valley. Optional hot air balloon rides cost approx. $230 per day.

- Day 1
Istanbul to Cappadocia
Take an early flight from Istanbul to Kayseri Airport. Book a morning flight to make the most of your first day, and plan for a 2-hour airport transfer in Istanbul due to traffic. From Kayseri, you'll have a 1-hour drive to your hotel in Göreme. Around 5 PM, you can join an ATV safari through the valleys. The late afternoon light is perfect for photos, and the weather is usually more pleasant. A recent traveler said: "The ATV tour gave us a great orientation of the landscape and helped us understand the scale of Cappadocia's rock formations."

- Day 2
North Cappadocia
If you're taking a hot air balloon flight, you'll need to wake up early (5 AM in summer, 6 AM in winter). Book this well in advance since it's a popular activity. Pack warm clothes even in summer since mornings can be cold. After the balloon ride, head to the Göreme Open Air Museum around 8:30 AM before the crowds arrive. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for the cave churches, which involve some climbing. Visit Avanos to watch traditional pottery making. If you buy any pottery, pack it carefully for the trip home. Watch the sunset at Ürgüp's Three Beauties viewpoint. You might want to end your day at a Turkish Night Show, where you can enjoy traditional entertainment and dinner in a cave restaurant.

- Day 3
South Cappadocia & Return to Istanbul
Start your final day exploring the underground city. One visitor noted: "The underground city passages are narrow and require crouching - if you're claustrophobic, consider skipping this part." Next, take in the Rose Valley and Red Valley. These hikes are fairly easy, but bring plenty of water and sun protection. In the afternoon, visit Love Valley for some memorable photos of its unique rock formations. Leave plenty of time (90 minutes) to get from Göreme to Kayseri for your evening flight back to Istanbul.

3 Days in Cappadocia, incl. Istanbul and Göreme
Two full days of Cappadocian wonders stretch from Goreme Open Air Museum to Underground Cities in this three-day package. Rose Valley, Pigeon Valley, and Uchisar Castle complete the itinerary, with cave hotel accommodation and domestic flights included.

- Day 1
Istanbul to Cappadocia's Fairy Chimneys
Take an early morning flight from Istanbul to Kayseri Airport (1 hour 30 minutes). The 7 AM flight is ideal to make the most of your first day. From Kayseri you'll have a 1-hour drive to Cappadocia. "The organization was excellent—every transfer had someone waiting with our names, making navigation seamless even at Istanbul's enormous airport." Start with the Göreme Open Air Museum and its stunning 9th-century rock-cut churches decorated with frescoes. Get there before 10 AM to avoid the crowds. Next stop is Devrent Valley where you can spot unique rock formations shaped like animals in what's known as "Imagination Valley." Visit Paşabağı (Monks Valley) to see the iconic fairy chimneys where hermits lived long ago. Have lunch in Avanos and try making traditional pottery. The area's ceramic tradition goes back to Hittite times. Watch the sunset from Uçhisar Castle to end your day. Most visitors stay in cave hotels in Göreme or Ürgüp. One guest shared: "The cave hotel experience was magical—some rooms even have private Turkish baths!"

- Day 2
Underground Cities and Hidden Valleys
Explore the Rose and Red Valleys, famous for their pink rocks. Make sure to wear shoes with good grip since trails can get slippery. Visit the abandoned rock village of Çavuşin before heading to Pigeon Valley with its cliff-carved dovecotes. In the afternoon visit one of Cappadocia's underground cities that go down 85 meters. One visitor notes: "If you're claustrophobic, stay near the upper levels—the deeper chambers have narrow passages and low ceilings." Try Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu underground cities which once housed 15,000 people.

- Day 3
Optional Ballooning and Return to Istanbul
Consider starting your last day with a hot air balloon ride ($300). You'll need to be ready for a 4:30 AM pickup. "Even if you skip the balloon ride, wake up early to watch dozens of balloons fill the morning sky." Most flights back to Istanbul leave mid-morning. Plan for 2.5 hours to get to the airport and check in. "The third day feels short since most flights leave around 10:30 AM. Request a later departure if you want more time in Cappadocia."

- 3 Days Cappadocia Highlights
Everything was planned perfectly. Enjoyed whole time having tour of Capadocia.
- Istanbul to Cappadocia 3 Days by Plane
An amazing tour! Both North and South Cappadocia are an amazing one exciting in a lifetime opportunity to see guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, spoke multiple languages and let us have free time at every stop so we could see what we wanted too. Bus driver was amazing, lunch was great (drinks extra) and very accommodating with hotels and transport- either by bus or airline there.
- 3 Days Cappadocia from/to Istanbul w/cave hotel+optional balloon
The overall experience was excellent. The tour included transfers from our hotel in Istanbul to the airport, the flights to and from Cappadocia (Kayseri Airport), pickup and transfers there, two nights in a hotel, and a great look at the highlights of Cappadocia. (It did not include admission to the sites that we visited, which could be paid directly in Turkish lira, or paid to the guide in lira, US dollars, or Euros.) This was a small group tour with two full days of touring in Cappadocia (requiring a very early departure from Istanbul the first day), that allowed people to join or leave on the day of their choice - some of the people that we met the first day had done "Day 1" of the tour the day before and were leaving at the end of the day; we got to do "Day 2" with them, and finished up with "Day 1" the following day - a clever bit of coordination that maximized flexibility. Our guide (Erdi) and driver (Okan) were helpful and informative, and it was a pleasure to meet them. The organization by the tour company (Tour Altinkum Travel) was among the best that I've seen. They provided very detailed information ahead of the trip - itinerary, hotel, pickup times, meeting places, airline flights, and contact information - that left us feeling very confident that we knew where we were going and what to expect. This level of detail also allowed us to identify a problem with one of the flights, which was corrected within hours when we brought it to their attention. Everyone charged with transporting us, in Istanbul and Cappadocia, was exactly where we were told they would be, ready with our names on a sign or a list. The tour itself covered the high points of Cappadocia, getting us to several fabulous sites that overlooked or walked through cliffside dwellings and rock formations, a major underground city, and the cave churches of Göreme. The Fresco Hotel, in the town of Ürgüp, was beautiful, with its own excellent restaurant, a spa located in a cliffside cave, and a rooftop bar and terrace. Several stops to learn about local crafts (leather goods, pottery, and jewelry) were interesting, if mostly geared to selling us things (at worst, an excuse to drink tea and rest our feet, and a good look at some of the local industries.) One place that I would have liked more shopping time was Göreme, where I skipped lunch with the group to go browse a couple of excellent carpet shops, with vintage as well as modern selections. (The shop called Village Dowry stands out.) My only other recommendation to Tour Altinkum Travel would be to add half an hour or so to the airport transfer times, both in Istanbul and Kayseri. Istanbul airport is enormous, and a little extra time is always welcome, and Kayseri airport, while it doesn't involve much walking, is trying to do check-in and security for 200 or so passengers (a full flight back to Istanbul) who are all arriving at the same time - we were the last ones on the check-in line, and the flight was already boarding by the time we got through security. Overall, though, every aspect of the trip went very smoothly (I realize that this is a matter of luck, but good organization helps), and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to add a quick visit to Cappadocia to a visit to Istanbul.
