Peloponnese Islands Tours & Trips
Ready to experience the Peloponnese, with the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus and its famous acoustics? How about Mycenae, where palace ruins spread across hillsides, and Delphi's mountain sanctuary where the oracle once spoke? These Greek sites cover the peninsula from coastal regions up to mountain sanctuaries. Classical civilization's biggest archaeological sites concentrate here where theaters, palaces, and temples reveal ancient Greece.

The tour was well organized, especially since a last minute change had to be made due to the Covid-19 situation. The only issue I had with this change is that when Olympia was removed from the tour, it was replaced by more time in Nauplion, which I think was a poor substitute. I wish we could have gone to another archaeological site instead of a tourist town to do shopping for souvenirs. Perhaps we could have traveled to the site of ancient Sparta since we were already visiting Mycenae just to the north. I know the Covid-19 situation was no one's fault and the tour operator did the best they could on short notice, but it would have been better to replace one archaeological site with another, in my opinion. There was an oddity for our second night on the tour at the hotel in Delphi, some of the visitors were charged the room tax, but not everyone. And this was further made confusing because no one paid the hotel tax for our first night which was in Mycenae. I cannot understand why no one was charged the tax for the first night, and only some for the second night, and especially since it was my understanding that all fees and taxes were paid for when I booked the tour. I think this tour should be set up so that all the hotel taxes are included in the initial tour cost as it makes it less confusing.

Yes tour was excellent only minor problems regarding crowding not able to get into Delphi museum . Whilst tour guides were proficient in detail of explanation there was too much detail and too much time spent explaing superfluous information ... this could have been better used viewing more items ... A little more time in Hydra as thus was too quick I recall only 30 minutes ...an hour would have been better and not delayed arrival back to Athens .only 30 minutes more. Overall excellent organisation pick ups drop off's and transfers were appreciated. Thankyou so muck for arranging all professionally. Edward Cioffi.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter brings a different pace to our tours, with quieter access to major archaeological sites like Mycenae, Olympia and also Delphi. Our local guides make these visits extra special - they've got perfect timing for site visits and share fascinating stories about Greek history that bring ancient stones to life. We've noticed travelers really enjoy mixing cultural visits with practical activities during the cooler months. You might spend your morning exploring ruins, then warm up in the afternoon learning to cook traditional dishes in a family kitchen or tasting locally pressed olive oil. The traditional hotels we use add an extra layer of comfort to winter touring.

- Spring 2026
Spring is when Greece truly opens up - ancient sites are carpeted with wildflowers and you can explore for hours in perfect temperatures. Our combined Athens-Delphi tours with Saronic Gulf island hopping are particularly popular this time of year. You'll get such a nice mix of experiences: perhaps starting your day among temple ruins before catching an evening ferry to watch the sun set behind a traditional fishing village. The spring markets are bursting with fresh produce, making it an excellent time for our food-focused tours through Poros. If you're feeling active, our guided cycling routes wind through olive groves and along coastal paths in ideal conditions.

- Summer 2026
Summer calls for sailing, and our Saronic Gulf routes deliver proper maritime adventures. We'll take you swimming in hidden coves, exploring car-free Hydra and discovering traditional life on Aegina. Our trips balance active mornings with lazy afternoons and evenings eating in local tavernas. For archaeological tours, we schedule early morning visits to avoid the heat, then spend afternoons in cool wine cellars or cooking classes. Many clients choose our combined mainland-island tours - you'll explore major sites like Epidaurus and Mycenae, then cool off with swims in clear island bays.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Autumn coincides with harvest season, and our tours tap right into local traditions. You can help pick olives, join in wine making and explore ancient sites all in the same trip. Our travelers tell us these authentic experiences really make their trip - one day you're walking through Delphi's sacred sites, the next you're in a family kitchen learning recipes passed down through generations. We've got several routes through lesser-known Peloponnese villages where you'll meet local producers and learn their crafts. The sea stays warm well into autumn, so we still mix in plenty of swimming at quiet beaches and also hidden coves. Both Epos Travel and Pictours stand out as solid choices for exploring Greece, based on what our travelers tell us. Epos Travel's Peloponnese tours get particularly enthusiastic feedback - guides like George and Argiris really make the history come alive while keeping things relaxed and friendly. The way they organize everything, from local restaurants to site visits and cultural stops, works smoothly without feeling rushed. Pictours of Greece does similar quality work, with George (their tour director) putting together some excellent accommodation choices and finding those local restaurants you wouldn't discover on your own. Their guide Aristotle has a gift for storytelling that transforms ancient ruins into vivid scenes from the past. What comes through in the feedback is how both companies nail the basics - good planning, knowledgeable guides and authentic experiences - while adding those personal touches that make a tour memorable. It's worth noting that travelers often mention the food at both companies' tours; they've clearly put effort into finding the right local spots rather than just hitting tourist restaurants. The main difference seems to be their focus areas - Epos has really made the Peloponnese their specialty, while Pictours works across different Greek regions. Both maintain small group sizes which our travelers say creates a more intimate atmosphere and lets you actually chat with the guides rather than just listening to speeches.

Is the Peloponnese Really an Island?
The Peloponnese isn't actually an island it's this fascinating peninsula that's almost completely surrounded by water. There's just this narrow strip of land connecting it to mainland Greece though the Corinth Canal which they finished back in 1893 cuts right through creating this amazing waterway for ships.
How Do You Get Around and Really Experience the Peloponnese?
Getting around is pretty straightforward with ferries running from Piraeus near Athens to lovely islands like Aegina Poros and Hydra. If you want to explore the peninsula itself driving is fantastic and Pictours of Greece has this great 7-day classical tour where they sort everything accommodation local experiences the works. You'll get to taste olive oil in Nafplio visit these incredible ancient sites like Meteora Delphi and Olympia and there's even this quirky Museum of Worry Beads. For a different take Europamundo runs this combined coach and ferry tour that gets you into all the important ancient spots like Epidaurus Theatre and Acrocorinth.
What Are Some Hidden Gem Islands Worth Checking Out?
You've got to check out Spetses near Porto Heli it's got this elegant feel without being touristy. Then there's Hydra where you won't see any cars just charming harbor views and donkeys trotting through narrow streets. Elafonisos is another beauty especially Simos Beach with its incredible turquoise water and white sand that'll take your breath away.
What Can You Actually Do That's Different Here?
There's this amazing old cog railway called Odontotos that winds through Vouraikos Gorge from Diakofto to Kalavryta really cool experience. MedSailors runs these fantastic sailing trips through the Saronic Gulf where you can paddleboard snorkel and taste Greek wines around islands like Poros and Hydra. For food lovers Intrepid's Real Food Adventure lets you cook lalagia in someone's home in Kardamyli and visit local producers like beekeepers olive oil makers and this family ouzo distillery.
When's the Sweet Spot for Visiting?
Spring around April-May or fall September-October is really perfect you get nice weather and fewer tourists at the historic sites. Summer June through August is great if you're after beach time but yeah it gets hot and busy. Winter's actually pretty interesting from November to March it's quieter cooler and perfect for checking out inland spots like that Cave of the Lakes near Kalavryta you really get to see how locals live.
