Imagine walking the Portuguese Coastal Camino to beautiful Baiona, where ocean breezes cool tired pilgrims. Or imagine exploring Porto's medieval riverside district, where port wine has flowed for centuries. Eat fresh seafood and drink crisp white wine at seaside restaurants. Traveling overseas can be stressful. Luckily we had Chris and Marco taking care of us the entire way. That included meetings before the trip to make sure we understood what to expect. Chris sent us a training schedule that we followed pretty closely to get ready. Once we started the Camino Frances through the end we never worried about availability for hotels or good restaurants--they had it covered. We got to see some of the most beautiful countryside and also the important Pelegrino art along the way. I couldn't be more satisfied with the journey. I would highly recommend Climbing Mountains to anyone without hesitation.

Best time to visit Camino de Santiago
- Summer 2026
Summer brings a lively feel to the Camino. Our French Way walking tours from León adapt well to summer with early starts beating the heat and carefully picked accommodations that stay cool. Many pick the Portuguese Coastal route for summer walking, with nice chances to swim at spots like Praia De Samil. We adjust cycling distances for summer weather, and our travelers really value having support vehicles carrying extra water. Even in July and August, the final 100km stays popular - our guides know all the shaded paths and time rest stops perfectly at village cafes and churches between Sarria and also Santiago.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall provides perfect conditions across our Camino routes. September and October are fantastic on the Portuguese Coastal path, with clear days giving great views over the Bay of Vigo and quiet walking along the shore. Cyclists on the French Way love how the fall light hits the Meseta and appreciate cooler temps for big climbs like Cruz de Ferro. Walking from León gets perfect hiking weather, while the Sarria section shows off fall colors in oak and chestnut woods. Our travelers particularly enjoy autumn's harvest - you'll find the best Arzúa cheese and Melide's famous octopus right in season. Looking at the guided cycling companies along the Camino de Santiago, ExperiencePlus! stands out for good reasons - their guides consistently get amazing feedback from our travelers, who often mention how they blend local cultural knowledge with a great sense of humor. The support vans are always there when needed, and they handle the logistics really smoothly. Intrepid has built a solid reputation specifically on the Portuguese Camino route. Their tour leaders know exactly how to pace the days, they've picked really comfortable places to stay and they're particularly good at keeping the group flowing well together. The hotels they use are well-chosen and strategically placed along the route. If you're considering the self-guided option, UTracks does provide the basic support structure you need. However, it's worth noting that several cyclists have mentioned challenges reaching their emergency support team when issues came up. The communication wasn't as quick or clear as they expected, which is something to factor into your planning especially if you prefer having reliable backup available. Between these options, ExperiencePlus! and Intrepid tend to deliver the most consistent, well-supported experiences for cyclists who want that extra layer of guidance and local expertise while tackling the Camino routes.

- Spring 2027
Spring opens up all our Camino routes. The Portuguese Coastal path from Porto offers ideal walking weather, and our travelers love mixing seaside trails with historic stops in Vigo and also Redondela. From April through May, our French Way tours starting in León draw both cyclists and walkers with great conditions for varied terrain. Keen cyclists choose the full Roncesvalles route in spring, covering between 47-95km daily through countryside in bloom. The Sarria to Santiago section really shines with wildflowers lining the paths and local farms selling fresh produce. Those longer 27km days between Melide and Arzúa feel much nicer in the gentler spring weather.
