What people love about touring Sabah solo
- Sabah Adventure
This trip is Fantastic. We had an amazing guide (Zahari) who was very knowledgable, passionate and became a loved member of the group. The group was also fabulous, a great mix of personalities who all got on and helped each other up (and down) Mt. Kinabalu. The acccommodation is all pretty basic (as defined by the Basix category) but was mostly clean and actually all added to the experience of mixing with the locals. Plus, the itinerary is so packed that it really is only a bed for the night. Highlights... all of it. The first homestay welcomes you to the area and makes you feel a beloved visitor right from the start. The mountain is a challenge but one that we all survived very happily. The jungle stay immerses you in the heart of the land with cheeky monkeys combined with the powerful serenity of nature. Turtle Island is wonderful (particularly if you love turtles as I do!); seeing turtle hatchlings pootle by us on the beach (unscheduled experience!) on their quest to find the sea was beyond exciting. Sepilok is also, despite all the requisite structure and policy, breathtaking. The Orang Utans are pretty mischievous so I suspect most visitors are treated to unscheduled lunchtime/after hours sightings. All in all, I cannot recommend this trip enough. I wouldn't stay in more luxury accommodation as I feel this would detract from the overall experience. The guide made our trip a most wonderful experience and the other on my trip made me feel part of an established gang rather than the single traveller as which I started out! Do this trip now!
