Ten-day South Africa itinerary with the Garden Route

  • Cape Point Peninsula - Considered one of the world’s most scenic drives, Chapman’s Peak twists and turns along the mountainside and allows incredible views of the icy Atlantic Ocean. Take advantage of the stops along the drive, where you can save its astounding views with your camera or mind. When you arrive at the Cape of Good Hope, you arrive at the most south-westerly point of Africa.

  • Cape Winelands - A scenic drive through Stellenbosch takes you to Marianne Wine Estate, where a truly South African wine pairing awaits. Here your wines are paired with locally produced cured meats (called ‘biltong’ in South Africa). Sit inside the tasting room or out on the balcony, and enjoy the new experience in stunning surrounds.

  • Knysna - Start your day with a leisurely stop at the Knysna Heads. These towering sandstone cliffs flank the mouth of the Knysna estuary. Soak in the exquisite views from the various lookout points.

  • Addo Elephant National Park - Visit Addo Elephant National Park - the third-largest national park in South Africa. It opened with only 11 elephants but is now a sanctuary to more than 550 of Africa’s gentle giants - the largest remaining population of wild African elephants in the world.

  • Oudtshoorn - Travel through the twisting roads of the Langkloof Mountain pass and arrive in the self-proclaimed Ostrich capital of the world, Oudtshoorn. Visit an ostrich farm for a peek into the world of Ostrich farming, as well as the chance to get beak-to-beak with the bird with an ostrich farm tour. End your day with an ostrich braai (bbq) where you’ll have the chance to sample gamey ostrich meat, along with other South African braai staples.

  • Route 62 - Travel to the outskirts of Oudtshoorn to the Cango Caves, which are nestled in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountain Range. The incredible 20-million-year-old formations fill the underground caverns and are illuminated to show-off their extraordinary curves and shapes. From the caves, begin the journey home along Route 62, which also happens to be the world’s longest wine route.

Ten-day South Africa itinerary with Kruger National Park

  • Cape Town - There is something for everyone in Cape Town. Visit Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, walk the V&A Waterfront, or embark on a wine tour in and around Stellenbosch. For the adventurous, opt to go skydiving, abseiling, or, if you're really brave, cage diving for a close encounter with a great white shark. Wander through the city centre, which has some of the oldest buildings and gardens in South Africa. Check out the Cultural Historical Museum, Planetarium, and many other museums and theatres.

  • Johannesburg - Fly to Johannesburg, then visit Soweto, the former home of Nelson Mandela. In the evening, enjoy a traditional South African Braai (barbecue) for dinner.

  • Greater Kruger Area - Enjoy a full day's scenic drive along the famed Panorama Route with stops at Blyde River Canyon, Bourke's Luck Potholes, and God's Window. Continue to a tented camp located near the Kruger National Park and enjoy a delicious South African dinner in the boma.

  • Kruger National Park - At over 19,000 sq km (7,500 sq mi), South Africa’s Kruger National Park is one of the largest and most impressive animal reserves in the world. With 147 species, Kruger has more species of large mammals than any other park on the continent. For the next two days, enjoy ranger-led morning and evening wildlife safari drives in an open safari vehicle in Karongwe Nature Reserve. Search for buffaloes, elephants, leopards, lions, and rhinos – Africa's famed Big Five.
