The tour covers the "Andalusian Trinity" of Seville, Cordoba, and Granada. Accommodations in Seville were lovely, but about 5 k outside town, too far to walk. There was a bus that went to Plaza de Espana. The accommodations in Granada were also far from the center and a bit past their prime but right on the tram and bus lines. The car was brand new and comfortable. The hotel in Seville was luxe. The one in Grenada had seen better days.Cordoba was a nightmare as our visit coincided with the Fiesta de Flores and the streets and parking lots were mobbed. The highlight was the Alhambra in Grandada (not included, book in advance). I did not see any "value added" for booking through tourradar. The next time, I will just reserve the rooms and rent a car myself.
Must of Andalusia, Self-drive - C

We enjoyed our Andalusia Highlights Self-drive Holiday. The pluses were: 1. The hotels were clean and convenient, and the food was good. 2. We enjoyed the Itinerary route. 3. The car hire was efficient. The minuses were: 1. it was annoying that at all but one of the hotels, we were expected to pay up to17 euros per night to use hotel parking, when no local road parking was immediately apparent. 2. The description on the itinerary was pretty vague. It would have been useful to have had good stopping points identified, such as Olvera, between Jerez and Malaga. We were not convinced that the people who wrote the Itinerary had any real knowledge of the route they were recommending. 3. We called at Cordoba, as suggested. It would have been very useful to have had suggested parking places included. We wasted much time looking for somewhere to park, time which could have been spent at the Great Mosque. 4. We were very disappointed not to have been able to visit the Alhambra's of either Seville or Granada, because they were fully booked. We strongly feel that we should have been advised to book as soon as possible. We were told that the Granada Alhambra palace was booked up for a whole month. We wasted a lot of time trying various routes to get tickets, which we could have spent looking at other attractions.

What our customers ask about Self Drive Tours & Trips in Spain
What are the must-see highlights along Spain's Self Drive routes?
The road network across Spain connects an array of cultural and natural landmarks. Drivers can explore the cliffside walkway of Caminito del Rey near Malaga then head to Granada's Alhambra Palace with its intricate Islamic designs. The route continues through the historic quarters of Cordoba and Seville. Northern Spain presents the vineyards of La Rioja and the curved coastal roads leading to San Sebastian. A TourRadar review notes: "The drive from Granada through Sierra Nevada to Cordoba was breathtaking with stops at whitewashed villages and the Hotel Macia Real de la Alhambra offering spectacular mountain views."
What are the best regions to explore on a Self Drive tour in Spain?
Two main regions stand out for self-drive tours: Andalusia in the south and the northern Spanish coast. The Andalusian route connects Malaga Granada Cordoba and Seville. The northern path winds through Basque Country from Bilbao to Santander and San Sebastian. A TourRadar traveler noted: "The tour covers the Andalusian Trinity of Seville Cordoba and Granada offering an incredible mix of landscapes and cultures." Accommodations range from the central Hotel Luna de Granada to the Silken Al-Andalus Palace in Seville with easy access to sites like the Alhambra Palace and Guggenheim Museum.
When is the best time to take a Self Drive tour in Spain?
The shoulder seasons of spring (March-May) and fall (September-October) provide the best driving conditions with moderate temperatures and lighter tourist traffic. Southern regions like Andalusia are particularly good in April-May. A TourRadar traveler reported: "We had excellent weather in April perfect for driving between cities and sightseeing without the intense summer heat." Summer brings high temperatures especially in central Spain while winter roads in northern areas like the Pyrenees can face snow conditions.
How far in advance should I book a Self Drive tour in Spain?
Booking windows of 3-6 months are standard for Spain's Self Drive tours. This becomes especially important during peak season (July-August) or during events like Seville's Feria de Abril. Hotels such as the Silken Indautchu in Bilbao and F&G Logroño fill quickly in summer months. According to one TourRadar traveler: "We booked our Andalusia tour 6 months ahead and were glad we did as many boutique hotels in Granada and Seville were already full for spring."
What are the parking arrangements in Spanish cities?
Spanish cities maintain a mix of public and private parking facilities though historic centers often restrict vehicle access. Hotels including the Barcelo Malaga and Hotel Jerez & Spa provide parking options sometimes with additional fees. One TourRadar traveler reported: "The Hotel Rural Almazara in Frigiliana provided free parking while in Seville we used the recommended public garage near Hotel San Gil - it was worth the extra cost for peace of mind."
How many hours of driving should I expect per day?
Daily routes typically take between 1.5 and 3.5 hours. For instance Madrid to Segovia requires about 2 hours while Caceres to Toledo spans roughly 3.5 hours. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The driving distances were very manageable giving us plenty of time to explore places like the Alcazar in Toledo and still enjoy evenings at hotels like the Altheus Carmelitas in Salamanca."
