In the early April of 2026, my husband and I had a 11-day Grand Georgia Journey Through Highlands and Sea run by the company of Exotour Georgia. We had a wonderful time in the tour. Thanks to David Sadzaglidhvili, our driver and guide. David was an excellent driver and guide. He was kind, attentive, and always made sure that he could serve our needs or interests during the tour. Especially when there were challenges to execute the original tour plans due to the poor weather or road conditions, he always managed to find a good plan B for us. We are really impressed by the rich Georgia history, culture, and the magnificent Scenery in Georgia.

Georgia's prime hiking seasons vary across its diverse regions. The high-altitude Svaneti region opens up from June to September when the Chkhutnieri Pass (2720m) becomes accessible and weather conditions are reliable. The lower regions near Tbilisi and Kakheti welcome hikers from April through October with milder temperatures. The historic village of Ushguli at 2200m sees its best hiking conditions during July and August. A TourRadar traveler notes: "The September weather was perfect for hiking in Svaneti with clear views of Mt. Shkhara and comfortable temperatures for long-distance treks."
Where do travelers stay during multi-day treks in Georgia's mountain regions?
Accommodations range from well-appointed hotels in cities to local guesthouses in mountain villages. Modern hotels like the Kala Hotel in Mestia provide standard amenities while remote villages such as Adishi and Ushguli offer family-run guesthouses with basic shared facilities. These mountain stays let visitors experience daily Svanetian life firsthand. A TourRadar traveler notes: "Staying with local families in Adishi village was a highlight - their warm hospitality and homemade Georgian cuisine made the experience unforgettable."

The difficulty of Georgian treks varies considerably. Many routes require moderate fitness with some challenging sections like the Ughviri Pass climb (2480m) featuring a 930m elevation gain. The Shkhara Glacier trek offers gentler terrain with 550m elevation changes. Tours include rest stops in cities like Tbilisi and Kutaisi where travelers can recharge at hotels like the Terrace Hotel. A TourRadar traveler shares: "Though some days were challenging particularly the Chkhutnieri Pass crossing the pace was well-managed and the views were worth every step."

Georgian hiking routes weave together outdoor activities with local traditions. Visitors can explore traditional winemaking in Kakheti see the UNESCO-listed Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta and spend nights with families in Svaneti's remote villages.
