The trip itself exceeded all my expectations and was truthfully one of the best experiences I've ever had in my whole life, so good that i ended up cancelling my flight twice!

The tour guide was in touch several times before we met so that I was reassured and excited prior to meeting everyone.
He was consistently friendly and organised, making sure we all met at the right times and enjoyed all our activities. While we had things planned every day, there was also plenty of time for us to take advantage of our own time. I truly loved it, and felt lucky to be with such a lovely group. The tour guides really made the trip, they were so fun and easy to get on with.

There’s quite a bit of travelling on the tour itself but the journey is totally worth it - Koh Tao and Koh Phi Phi are personal favourites.
Overall, my group were amazing and the places were paradise - only disappointment was coming home! Much love for this tour, I’d definitely recommend!

Northern Thailand and beaches tour.
I did this tour with my boyfriend as we felt this would be a good way to see the whole of Thailand, and we were right!

I did this tour with my boyfriend as we felt this would be a good way to see the whole of Thailand, and we were right!
Although this is sold as one tour the trip is split into two parts, the first part experiencing the exciting culture and visiting beautiful places in the north of Thailand. Personal highlights for us were the elephant sanctuary, zip lining, visiting the backpacking town of Pai, beautiful temples and fantastic viewpoints. Transportation was always comfortable, with aircon where possible, making us feel like no expense had been spared for our comfort. Our group during this part of the tour were like-minded people, interested in experiencing thai culture, making the tour very enjoyable. Our guides were Euan and Mickey, they were fantastic! They always kept us informed on what we were doing each day, where we were going, what times, and what we would need to bring with us. Both guides were passionate about giving us the best experience in northern Thailand and that truly showed. They were both very friendly, easy to talk to guys who answered any questions happily and made each member of the group, of every nationality feel welcome and included always. We'd like to thank both guides, and we would highly recommend the northern tour to anyone looking to learn and explore thai culture!
For the second part of our tour, we travelled to the south of Thailand to visit the beaches and relax in the sunshine. Meeting our new guides, Oneway and Mark, they were both very friendly and excited to take the new group to the south for the next part (or start of most people's) trip. Transport was not as comfortable as on the northern tour, namely the overnight train. We felt a little put out to have previously travelled twice in a comfortable carridge with aircon, to then have to spend the night in a carridge without. There were fans in this carridge but if you wanted to close the curtain for privacy or to block out the light to sleep, they were rendered useless. This did feel like a more authentic way to travel but felt very dissonant from the first part of our tour. As the train was very loud and uncomfortable, we didn't feel very well rested when we arrived at Khao Sok national park. However, this was still a spectacular place and by far the highlight of the beaches tour. Mark and Oneway explained how the park was formed and we enjoyed swimming in the reservoir. The beaches in the south were lovely, the boat trip was fantastic and the acomodation wasn't bad. The feel of the islands and the south in general was different to the north in that it felt less traditional and more for tourists. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there is much more of a partying emphasis on this part of the tour which isn't for everyone.
Overall we very much enjoyed our northern Thailand and beaches tour with trutravels, we're glad that we got to experience the whole of the country, the cultural north and the sunny south, the whole trip was a good price with decent accommodation and some meals included. I'm a vegetarian and this was never a problem on any point of the tour, all of our guides were very acomodating of that. The included excursions are also great and we felt that without the tour we wouldn't have been able to visit so many different places in 21 days. Thanks trutravels!
All in all the tour was absolutely amazing! I was really surprised by the accommodations, which were really nice! I expected less! He's not only super helpful, but also just the sweetest human being and always there for anybody! Can't praise him enough! On the other hand our guide Ewan was really nice, however, sometimes he seemed rather disinterested and was generally in not such a great mood! While I understand that he had family issues, he still should have concentrated a bit more on the job.. Nevertheless, the tour was absolutely lovely and I would definitely go again!

Bee and Ewan were both amazing tourguides and worked really great as a couple. Bee is such a kind and funny guide who (as a native Thai) knows everything about the Thai culture and the places we visited. On the other hand, Ewan did a great job showing us the nightlife and making sure everyone got home safe after a couple of buckets. He even proofed he can drink a little bit ;)
Accommodation, transportation and activities are all very well organised and quite luxury for Thai standards. Only slight downside that I can think of is that the hotel in Pai is located a bit outside the center so you don't really notice the hippie kind of vibe around there.
10/10 would recommend this tour. 20/10 would recommend these guides!!

I finished the 16-day Thai-Khmer Adventure in July and it was amazing. David was my tour guide during the Cambodia part and he truly is an amazing human being. David was my tour guide during the Cambodia part and he truly is an amazing human being. The Thailand part is so much fun; Ewan is a fun person and we all missed him afterwards, but the Cambodia part is amazing. I had never been to Cambodia before and David made sure I want to visit another time. He was always up for ideas and plans, I loved the fact that even though it was heavily raining we still went to the waterfall. I loved that so much; he is such a laid-back dude that looks like a big teddy bear. :) His hugs are amazing and he makes sure you feel comfortable. The group dynamic was amazing and I was so sad that he had to leave early. He made sure we got another tour guide, Aido. Rhisian was also part of the tour and she and David are both amazing people.
I will definitely do another tour again, maybe Vietnam. I hope to see you there, David! <3

I went on the 14 day Northern Thailand tour and it was nothing short of amazing. The tour guides, however, were really what made the experience special. Our Thai guide, Minnie, taught us so much about daily life in Thailand and helped us navigate cultural differences. Minnie also guided us through the best street food in Northern Thailand. The Western tour guides, Ewan and Aido, made us all feel so at ease and at home right away. From the moment Ewan picked me up from the airport, I knew the tour was going to be an absolute blast. They helped the whole group come together and become friends right away. They also lead us on some legendary nights out. Ewan was so friendly and his experience with leading tours really shone through. Ewan's primary concern was always that we were enjoying ourselves and making the most of our once in a lifetime trip. I don't think anyone in our tour group could come up with a bad thing to say about any of our tour guides. My only regret about going on this trip is that I didn't plan to stay in Thailand longer.

Tour covered many nice places to see and lots of fun things to do. Accommodations were nice overall. Some places had some dirty sheets, but that is about as bad as it got. We went to Bangkok, Khao Sok, Koh Phangan. My only negative, is I would have liked to stay another night in a couple of places. Khao Sok and Bottle beach in Koh Phangan. My tour guides, Ewan Cromie Gibson and Lowrie Douglas were both Superb! It was like they were just one of us, except they knew all the cool places to go and sorted all the gritty stuff out, such as booking transport and finding nice places to eat etc.

I did the Thailand 8 day tour, only regret was not doing the 18 days. Really good selection and range of locations and amazing accommodation for the price of the tour. Koh soc and bottle beach in koh phangan were easily my favourite places in all of Thailand and probably wouldn't have found either without the tour. However, the tour was really made by the tour guides, lawrie and Ewan made it special. Both impossible not to get along with and make everything really easy and stress free, which for me was a pretty big deal being in Thailand for the first time. Lawrie had me cracking up the entire trip and I'd probably just book again to chill with them again - definitely would not be the same without them both. So if you're looking for a really exciting and upbeat way to see the best of southern Thailand and off the beaten track I wouldn't hesitate to book this tour.

Couldn't of been any better. Was very weary at first about signing up for a group tour but TruTravels changed my mind the minute our tour guides Shane and Ewan picked us up. We immediately felt comfortable and knew from that minute it on it was going to be a blast. They were wonderful tour guides. A perfect mixture of knowledge, fun and craziness. They were great at keeping everyone moving and together but also allowing a bunch of free time to explore. I can now call them both friends and can't thank them enough for making it one of the best trips of my life. They are definitely the reason I am looking at another TruTravels tour in 2017. Cheers!

From start to finish it was just amazing. We were really lucky to have such a good group of people but coupled with that our tour guide, Ewan, brought us together like a family. On the first night in Bangkok I left my bank card in an ATM, when I finally realised Ewan rang back for me but it had already gone. With Ewan nothing was ever unsolvable or too much effort and he managed to keep me calm in a moment of panic. It's easy to feel a little lost at times when you're travelling but Ewan made us all feel at home which I think is really important. The tour had just the right balance between culture and partying, and everyday is packed full of organised activities. It's such a good idea for those travelling alone or just starting their travelling experience. The national park was breathtaking and definitely one of my tour highlights! And the worst part of my trip was breaking my phone so I couldn't take 1000's of photos and videos of all the incredible places we visited. Although I'm working full time back home this tour, which was only a holiday for me, has made me reevaluate what I want to do in the future. It's definitely given me the travelling bug! I''m even thinking about doing the new Bali tru travels tour next year. Ewan thank you for being the best tour guide and you are now stuck with me as a friend for life!

Ewan and Shane were both so kind and friendly, and always made sure everyone was having a good time. They were very knowledgeable about everywhere we went and had the best recommendations on what to do apart from the activities outlined in the tour. They definitely made my trip unforgettable and I would highly recommend them. :)

The tour was well planned and I felt well drained when I came home to South Africa which in my books counts as a good holiday. Sammy was loving and caring and Adam inspired me so much in fact that I have been bugging them both to help me get a job there with Trutravels. What an amazing time I am eternally greatfull for all the people and staff members whom has made it an unforgettable experience. If you are indeed looking for staff I will work for you in a wink of an eye. I just returned from the 8 day trip in Thailand and this trip was completely different than any other trip i've even gone on. I don't think my trip would've been as good as it did if Ewan wasn't part of it.
Our tour guide Ewan was knowledgeable, entertaining, outgoing, accommodating and so much fun to be around. Thailand is a big beautiful country, and having someone familiar with the country taking us around was a huge deal.
The tour was very well planned and every place I visited completely blew my mind. The spots are hand picked and the experience was truly a real backpacking experience.

Thank you,TruTravels, for giving me the opportunity to see Cambodia in such a unique way and enjoy experiences only afforded to us by virtue of having the most excellent dude, Luke, leading us (astray). We also had the pleasure of meeting the gorgeous and talented Holly and Ewan. All three went above and beyond to ensure we had the sickest time EVEERRRRR - and we did. Thanks legends!

Being my first trip to Thailand it was an ideal introduction to the country, and it was a great way to meet lots of like-minded people. Out tour guide Ewan was fantastic throughout and made everyone feel at home from day one. He created a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere which meant it felt like I was on a trip with friends, which as a solo traveller was a huge bonus for me. He also went out of his way to sort out any problems we had and provided any advice that we needed. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone!

I think that Ewan was kind, motivated, fun, responsible and he took care of every tour member. He paid the same amount of attention to every single tour member so that no one had to feel like an outsider. Every morning he asked us if we were ok and even took care of our wounds under our feet! I think he did a great job as a tourguide. I think everyone have seen Ewan as a friend, a tourguide and a big brother who was looking after us and made us feel save. Perfect combination to travel with!

Ewan was great, always happy to help, took care of the organisational side of things, and still found time to join in with the group throughout. He also (somehow) always kept an eye out for wandering group members getting themselves in trouble, top bloke!

I initially booked Tru Travels based on their positive reviews. The experience really did live up to my expectations, in fact, it was even better than I had imagined! Within the first day of meeting people in Bangkok, you already feel comfortable with everyone and it’s almost like chatting and travelling with old friends. Some of the places you visit on this trip are truly amazing and breathtakingly beautiful and not necessarily places you would stumble upon if you were travelling alone. Bottle beach was one of my favourite spots, a quiet beautiful beach that almost feels ‘undiscovered’. Khao Sok National Park was also a highlight for me, staying in a floating bungalow whilst surrounded by stunning scenery and wildlife was unforgettable.
The overnight train from Bangkok was….an experience, but one that I can laugh at now.
The accommodation was much better than expected. Most of the time you’ll share a room with one or two other people. In the majority of places, the accommodation was clean, modern and air-conditioned.
Ewan is an amazing tour guide, he’s always willing to help and go the extra mile, whether it be carrying your bag, looking for people who went missing (mostly in Bangkok), helping to plan the next part of your trip, or looking after people who were feeling unwell. He really cares about people on the tour, and tries his best to ensure that everyone is having a good time and quite often he would plan activities outside of the itinerary. He was always willing to join in and keep us entertained with his….interesting stories.
The beauty of this tour is that you get to experience all the fun that travelling has to offer without the stress of organising anything yourself, the only bad part is the feeling you get when the tour is over!

We visited some breathtaking places, and as many other reviews have stated, it very much feels like travelling with friends rather than the dreaded 'tour' feel.
As someone with mobility issues due to chronic pain, I definitely found some aspects of this tour quite hard, such as the night train, which can only be drescribed as what I imagine purgatory to feel like (our 5 hour breakdown didn't help...) As such i feel that Trutravels would do well to provide a more detailed account of transport and accommodation utilized during the tour, something I did request twice before departing, but was not able to access other than the vague details in the pre-departure pack. For customers such as myself this would be invaluable.
That said, Ewan was an excellent guide: he has a maturity belying his years, and was very helpful and accommodating. He is great fun, throwing himself wholeheartedly in to every situation, and yet also reliable and supportive of our needs, individually and as a group. Ewan has this amazing ability to appear unflustered by whatever bump appears in the road, and went out of his way to help everyone: I've seen him remain smiling and calm despite transport issues, give his own shoes off his feet to a member of our group, carry multiple bags on his back to help others when occasion called for it, and give quiet strength and support to those in need. No group would be complete without his special brand of Kiwi charm. Plus he looks pretty good without a shirt on, which is a bonus in any situation...
Special shout out to Luke, who we enjoyed the company of during our first few days in Bangkok. It's guys like these that tour companies are built upon, and these two are truly to be commended!

Would highly recommend this tour. We managed to fit so much in during the 18 days with the tour itinerary while still having plenty of time to do our own thing at each location. Biggest compliment I can pay to Ewan and the tour was that it always just felt like a group of friends travelling as opposed to what I assumed a typical organised tour would be like. Definitely hope to be able to do another Tru Travels tour in future!

There was always options which is essential with a large group with different opinions.
Whether you're partying in Bangkok or Koh phangan or chilling in a tube on the lake, some of the things you see on this trip are beyond words! You really do get a true backpacking experience whilst feeling comfortable that your guide knows what's going on.
Ewan always went that extra mile to keep the group happy and safe, whether it was carrying people's luggage, going out looking for people who've wandered off, or coming up with extra activities for the group outside of the itinerary that he thinks they might enjoy.
More than that he became a great mate and not only would I go on another tour with him, I'll also be popping back to grab another strawberry daquiri with him! Cheers for a great tour dude! ✌

What an amazing trip. I done the 8 day trip and got to experience a little taster of everything. For only 8 days I still can't believe how much we got done. I went on my own and was so scared at first, but from meeting Ewan in the airport until the minute I left the group I didn't feel on my own at all. He went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and made sure we were all having a good time. Everything we asked he went above and beyond to help us, right down to helping us make our way home and making sure we got home alright. I couldn't recommend this trip enough as the accommodation was amazing, such beautiful views in most of the places (living on the beach!!) we had a wide range of food options to cater to us all and for every day of the trip we had something amazing to do. Only thing I'm sorry for is that I couldn't have stayed longer !!

On this tour you really see some amazing places were you wouldn't come when just backpacking across Thailand, I recommend a lot of places to other backpackers I came across on the follow up of my travels! This tour is not a tour with a guide with a pink umbrella in front of you but travelling together with a group off fiends you just met. Ewan took good care off everybody and made sure nobody was forgotten. Only bad thing I could say about the tour is that I goes really fast from one place to the next place, but it covers it all in a few days :) just take some extra time after this tour to discover more of the amazing land called Thailand, you can even do it with friends you just met on the tour!
Experience overall was amazing, couldn't have asked for a better tour leader (Ewan). The itinerary for the 8 day tour covers a vast amount in such a short space of time, without it feeling rushed!

I would advise this tour to anyone! (Solo or group of friends). I met some amazing people and had such a good time.
Ewan was amazing, such a down to earth guy who always went above and beyond with the group.
The accommodation on most days was really good (above expectations even!), but for the days that where not based looking onto a lush beach or onto amazing scenery, it would be nothing short of what you would expect from a real authentic traveling experience.
5* for the whole trip!!

- we spent the first couple of days in Bangkok getting to know the other members of the group. The massage parlour was a great way to wind down and relax after all the travelling.
- the night train out of bangkok was an experience I'll not forget. Kho sok was amazing and I don't think I would've gone there had I travelled on my own. It was probably my favourite place on the tour
- bottle beach was incredible and again I think it seemed to be a bit of a hidden gem and I doubt I would've known about it if I'd travelled alone. Again this was one of my favourite places and I think that the tour could be improved slightly with another night there as the staff, the accommodation and the setting were all incredible. Also after lots of travelling it would be good to have another night there to rest up a little.
- we then stopped off for a bit of mauy Thai boxing which was really enjoyable for the whole group and everyone got involved. We headed onto echo then which allowed everyone to rest up and relax. Echo was a really good spot and a sociable place. We had a boat party which was great fun and we got to visit a few more beaches along the way.
- we the went to koh Tao where Ewan put us in touch with a diving school and most of the group went diving. It was a great activity.
- Railay was next. The accommodation here was great. Ewan also went around and collected lots of brochures for any activities we wanted to do like kayaking etc
- Phi Phi was one of my favourite spots. From here we were able to go to monkey beach and also maya bay (the beach from the film the beach). It was incredible. Although the accommodation wasn't the best on the island.
I cannot stress enough how good Ewan was as a tour guide. He made sure everyone was punctual and was well organised with transport the whole time. He made everything run so smoothly and was incredibly sociable with every member of the group. He made it clear from the start that we should inform him of any problems and everyone felt comfortable enough do so. A couple of people picked up injuries on the tour and he went the extra mile to help them out when needed. He made a big effort to get everyone out to dinner together every night and kept the group tight knit. Towards the end of the tour he organised every one in the groups transport back to Bangkok. He made what would've been a great tour anyway even better

The accommodation was better than what I was expecting and if I ever had a problem Ewan was able to help straight away, even helping me book onward travel. Would definitely recommend anyone doing this tour!

Some highlights I would say were my fav during the tour were, Khao San road in Bangkok , Bottle beach in Koh Phangan, and the snorkelling during the booze cruise.. There was a lot of travelling during this tour which I didn't expect but the people I toured with were all amazing so it made the travelling not so bad. I would definetly do another Tru travel tour, but would want to definetly do a longer tour as the 8 day tour just isn't long enough for Thailand! Amazing trip overall !
