The hotel in Chiang Mai was below par and I fed that back to TruTravels. Is this an issue? Well yes: you spend 5 nights there. The free breakfast at the WangBurapa Hotel was awful (and I'm not fussy) and they don't clean the pool.
I would have given this trip 5 stars if it wasn't for the WangBurapa Hotel.

Max went over and beyond. Switched our rooms, ensured we always had water and were safe. We are all gutted that Max isn't staying with us for the whole 27 days. Minty was extremely knowledgeable. She showed me different types of Thai tea and helped me to buy some from the local market. Butterpea tea is definitely worth a try! The best excursions were definitely the jungle trek to the hill tribe, elephants, waterpark and hiring scooters. If you're contemplating this tour I would 100% recommend!!

He was also on hand to give us useful recommendations about onward travel after the tour. The accommodation we stayed in was great, especially considering that this was a backpacking kind of tour. All our Transport was smoothly arranged for us by Max, so we never had to worry about booking taxi's train or boats and it was all included for the price. The itinerary was great as it was packed full of fun activities whilst also giving us free time to explore and do optional activities. The tour was good value for money as almost everything was included and it was always organised and arranged for us. Overall i had a great experience met loads of new friends and had an amazing time. So i would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

Overall, i would have to say that this was all down to our tour guide Max, He was great!, he was very friendly and put everyone to ease at right from the start. His knowledge about Thailand's history and all the places we visited was second to none. He was more like a friend then a tour guide. and i think that his effort shouldn't go unnoticed. he definitely made the trip worthwhile as i gained so much from this experience then if i had came alone!. And if i ever come again i would take his advice he gave me, which would come very handy.

When I had a slight incident. He stayed calm + professional and really helped and managed to sort it out. Even when it rained , he always had alternative options for us to do.

My favorite activity was the elephant. I definitely pushed myself out my comfort zone. Doing the jungle zipline due to the height but is was amazing. My legs were shaking!
Our group were a total of 6 people + Max and I couldn't ask for a better group of people.
I hope when I come + book on to do southern tour with Trutravels Max will be my tour guide!!

Transport was smooth - accommodation wasn't always 100% comfortable (sleeper train), but in these instances, I know there isn't any other alternative. Max was a GREAT group leader - genuinely couldn't ask for anyone better. He was funny, accommodating, absolutely a walking encyclopedia of knowledge, & certainly went above & beyond far when people were ill or wanting to do things a little more obscure. Very decent overall, would recommend to any friend interested in a group tour.

He also had a lot of knowledge about the culture and history of Thailand which I was particularly interested in. The activities ranged hugely from the jungle trek to the canyon park which again was great as I think it tailors to everyone's likes on the tour and gave us an insight into several different aspects of what Thailand has to offer. As this is my first long haul trip away, I felt as though TruTravels was the safest option for me which was proven as Max always made sure we knew where to go and how to contact him if we needed to.

It was everything I expected and more from the diversity in the activities, to the history of this beautiful country. It was the perfect amount of chill time and scheduled activities. A highlight of this trip was of course the elephants! But I also enjoyed the time in Ayutthaya. It showed the depth of history in Thailand. Max also made this experience one to remember. He was also my tour guide last year and I was so excited to be in his group again! He provides so much information and explains it in a way that makes sense. The highlight for me was the jungle trek as it was fascinating to really see how some Thai locals live. The elephant sanctuary was amazing also as it's not everyday you have the opportunity to spend the day playing with them. Our tour guide was very professional and kind and made the experience even better. The natural sight to see in Northern Thailand are breathtaking such as exploring Erawan falls. I would definitely recommend this tour to friends and family.

My favourite day was definitely the elephant sanctuary and I thought it was a very good idea to make it to the day earlier as it cut down the journey and gave us time on the next day to relax after quite a full on day. Max was an amazing tour guide and was extremely helpful with any sort of question I had. He was very informative on what to wear when walking round the temples. He also had a lot of interestingly knowledge about the culture which I enjoyed learning about. The accommodation was lovely, the staff were always friendly and the rooms always clean. It was also good that we were normally very close by to everyone in the group so it wasn't hard to try and find them and meet up.

Driving 45 min or more in a tuk-tuk (Chiang Mai) was not fun. The tuk-tuks aren't that comfortable therefore a van would be better. Overall the jungle trek shouldn't be done in rainy season as the path gets slippery and people can be injured. Max is the best tour guide I've had. He kept us very engaged + informed throughout the entire tour. If we asked something he didn't know, he found the answer + got back to us later. He is good at taking feedback + improving the trip for the next group. I'm glad we got to experience the tour with him. No criticism.

My favorite destination was Khaosok national park. The views were pristine and untouched. The trips itinerary was amazing and included a mixture of relaxation + adrenaline activities and exposure to the festival culture.

My tour guides were Phoenix and Max who made it a memorable and enjoyable experience through their competent knowledge transfer skill and overall empathetic nature. This tour had a mixture of history, culture, fun and laughter. We started our journey in the capital Hoi Chi Minh and proceeded North through various resorts from the beauty of the Mui Ne White Sand Dunes to the memorable ‘post card view’ Ninvahna BackPackers Hostel. We learned the skills of native cooking techniques and latern making to zip lining in the mesmerizing Phong Nha caves. The last leg of the trip finished up with a day visit to Hanoi followed by the Castaway Islands. What happens in Castaway stays in Castaway! To conclude I’m very pleased with choosing Tru Travels for the Vietnam Experience. I found the tour guides very accommodative throughout the trip, helped to create fun and nurture the overall experience. Max and Phoenix are extremely competent in their roles as tour guides through both their use of ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ skills and form important ‘cogs’ in the wheel as the company begins to mature.

My favorite part of the trip would have to be Khao Sok National park. The floating bungalows were really lovely and we were able to try out Kayaking which was really fun for everyone. I have met really nice group of people and tho whole experiences has been better as a result.

Trutravels 8 day tour was the perfect blend of stuff to do and free time so that our relatively short holiday was used to maximum. Our tour leaders were friendly ,helpful and fun. it was also cool to meet others people on tour group.

The 23 day island hopper tour was more than I could have hoped for! There were so many opportunities for fun activities and experiences, and there is truly something for everyone on this tour. There were so many opportunities for fun activities and experiences, and there is truly something for everyone on this tour. Lots of opportunities for partying, but there was never any pressure or shaming if you didn’t feel like partying or participating in any of the activities!
The accommodations were really great and clean. We stayed in hotels for most of the nights. The only accommodation that wasn’t great was the one hostel that we stayed at on the tour, where we spent 4 nights in Koh Pangan. To be expected though when you sign up for a backpacking trip in Thailand!
Transportation was pre-arranged, mostly by mini bus and by ferry. Overnight ferry was not too bad but the overnight train was rough, not my fav. A lot of the girls who had motion sickness suffered during the ferry and bus rides, but if you have no problems with that you should be fine!
Koh Tao was my absolute favourite place on the tour. That place is paradise. The lake water is perfect and so refreshing. The longboat ride to get there was so much fun and the views are unreal. I wish I could have spent another 2 weeks there. The floating bungalows were awesome.
My other favourite place was Bottle Beach. As soon as we arrived it felt like home. The sandy beach was perfect The food and drinks were great and trufam took over the music and had our own private party. So fun! Wish I could’ve spent at least another night there!

On this tour we were sooooo lucky to have had 4 tour guides throughout the 3 weeks, and literally every single one of them was freaking awesome!
Max was so awesome, and went above and beyond to answer any question we had regarding the area, transportation, people, food, or pretty much anything you needed. He went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safe and knew where to go. He translated as needed, and was so funny when you least expected it. We were so lucky to have him for the whole time we were on tour together.
Tamara is the biggest ray of sunshine I’ve ever met. She made sure everyone was “sebai sebai” at all times, especially at the beginning our tour when the culture shock was real. She really helped to keep the group chill, happy, and facilitated the dance party/karaoke for every taxi ride to make sure everyone was loving life.
I don’t think anyone could fit the profile of a group leader as perfectly as Justin did. I have never met a more caring and emotionally intelligent individual. He knows exactly how you’re feeling before you even say it, and he is always right by your side as soon as he thinks something is up. This guy puts his full heart into making sure that your tour experience is exceptional. Somehow Justin manages to be the life of the party and your best friend at the same time. He is super knowledgeable about the things to do around the area that you are staying in, always suggests “must-do” activities wherever you go. So so so much love for this guy. I wish he was there for the full 23 days.
When Alex took over for Justin and Tamara, the transition was surprisingly seamless, and I think all the credit goes to Alex! It’s not an easy thing to take over a group, and he handled it so professionally and was so chill. Getting to know Alex was seriously awesome. He gives you freedom to do what you want to do and asks what everyone wants to do before booking reservations etc. He is like an older brother, super chill and really cares about his group. He’s such a genuine guy, he is so easy to talk to, and he makes sure that the party is super lit! I couldn’t have asked for a more fun, chill, caring guy to finish off the tour with.
As a Canadian, I felt so welcomed by everyone on the tour, and it was so fun to meet people from around the world. The people were so welcoming and accepting, despite coming from different backgrounds etc. The weeks flew by and these people really helped me stay grounded throughout the whole tour. So much love for everyone on this tour. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun and safe way to adventure in Thailand!

He’s such a genuine guy, he is so easy to talk to, and he makes sure that the party is super lit! I couldn’t have asked for a more fun, chill, caring guy to finish off the tour with.
As a Canadian, I felt so welcomed by everyone on the tour, and it was so fun to meet people from around the world. The people were so welcoming and accepting, despite coming from different backgrounds etc. The weeks flew by and these people really helped me stay grounded throughout the whole tour. So much love for everyone on this tour. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun and safe way to adventure in Thailand!

It took multiple weeks to narrow down tour companies and different tour itineraries to fit the wants and needs of all 7 of us. After finding the 23 day island hopper with trutravels our decision was made. This tour and the tour guides I had the pleasure of traveling with (Justin, Tamara, Max and Alex) along with the new connections I made has went above and beyond my expectations for my Thailand trip. Every day was amazing and really goes to show how much time and effort trutravels puts into their company to make it expectional for their travellers. The balance of activity filled days and chill days were laid out great. There was never a time were I felt bored, uninformed or unsupported. Each experience on this tour and the people I got to spend it other has made my travel experience one that I'll never forget and forever cherish.
My tour started off with Justin, Tamara and Max. It continued after 13 days with Max and our new tour guide Alex. Each of which were outstanding tour guides.
Justin showed great support throughout our tour. Always informing us of events well in advance so all travellers were prepared for the next adventure. Justin genuinely cared for each and every on of his travellers and made it a priority to get to know each of his travellers. He was more than supportive and brought an very trusting and protective vibe to the group. With that being said he was also uplifting, fun, and energetic and always ready to have a good time. Justin makes for an exceptional tour leader in many ways. One thing that really stood out to me about Justin is his ability to make people experience things out of their comfort zone in a way that they're comfortable. He truly wants people to have a life changing experience and a trip of a lifetime.
Tamara was on her internship and was part of our group for the first 13 days before returning home. Tamara was an amazing, energetic and outgoing tour leader. When Tamara was around there was never a dull moment and everybody's faces were full of smiles. Her energy was contagious and she always ensured everyone was having the time of their lives. She had a very kind heart and was always there when you needed her. She was a very supportive and loving tour leader and the energy wouldn't have been the same without her!
Max was out Thai tour guide. From my understanding it was his first tour, with that being said I would have thought this was Max's 100th tour. Not only was Max full of Thai culture information, he was also a very supportive, funny and caring tour guide. Any questions we had on your Max always answered in great depth and it was very obvious that Thai culture was one of his expertise. There was also a time in our tour where Alex had to stay behind with a sick customer in Railay and Max had to take all of us to Phi Phi while they stayed behind. Max was calm and confident in this position and there was never a time I didn't feel safe with Max around.
Alex joined our tour after 13 days when Justin amd Tamara left. Alex made the transition from our previous tour guides to him as our new tour guide an easy one. He made the effort of getting to know us before it was his time to start. Our group was very welcoming and Alex's trustworthy and outgoing personality made it even easier. Alex genuinely cared for each of his travellers and always ensured everyone was having fun but also safe. Throughout the tour alex always informed us of upcoming activities and what to expect within the next couple days. He was full of information and a very caring tour guide.
I can truly say with 110% of my heart that these 4 tour guides are beyond passionate for their job. They put themselves before others and ensure everyone is safe at all times. There was not a single time with trutravels where I did not feel safe having these tour guides around. If it wasn't for these 4, my Thailand trip truly would not have been the same. I would recommend Justin, Tamara, Max and Alex as tour guides, as well as, the trutravel tour company to everybody I know. Please keep these tour guides around as long as possible and always welcome them back for future trutravels adventures because they were exceptionally AMAZING!!!!!!!

Justin and Tamara were my guides for the first 13days if the trip and they are such genuine people, from losing my wallet, to being lost a couple times, coming into the tour earlier than expected etc. Whatever it was they were always there to help which made the trip for me really! Alex was my guide for the second part of the trip and is also one of the biggest sweet hearts. All three of them are some of the most high spirited charismatic people I’ve ever met and they always showed us a great time- they always took us to the best restaurants, bars, parties, beaches, activities etc! All truly great leaders and friends. Max was the Thai leader for the tour and is extremely knowledgeable about Thai culture, nature and the tourism spectrum in general- as well as being a constant sweetheart all the time. The tour is very organized and everyday was better than the last and I’m so happy I chose trutravels! Will miss everyone so much! Would recommend the tour to anyone! Xoxo Sabai Sabai

The tour itself is planned out very well and is an easy and stress free way to travel Thailand and meet lots of new people. Our tour guides were all so kind and helpful and couldn’t have done anything more to ensure our trip was fun and tailored to each individual.
Our tour guide Justin was one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet! He brought the whole group together and made every single person feel comfortable and safe which is so important for first time travellers like myself! This helped to make the trip so much more enjoyable and stress free! He would really go out of his way to make sure everyone was happy and had something to do if there was ever any spare time in the days! He was better than the other guides at organising activities and letting everyone know what we would need for the day aswell as timings to be ready! This was important to me as I wanted to know the night before what I would be doing the next day so I could be prepared! Everything ran smoothly with Justin as he was very organised and professional! At the same time this guy knew how to party and had great knowledge on the night life and generally everything about the areas we visited!!
Our tour guide Tamara was a star! She was so much fun on this trip and I am so so happy I’ve met her! If I ever had a question about anything she would always be able to help or find the answer for me! She would always get the party going and make sure everyone was having the best time!! She was so easy going and so easy to get on with! She was so lively and her knowledge on the country was also so good! I learnt useful Thai words from her and useful tips about travelling in general! If I ever had a problem I felt comfortable to go to Tamara, she was very professional and loved getting involved in all the activities with us!
Our tour guide Alex was sucha laugh and made the trip equally as fun!! He brought his camera on some of the activities and took amazing photos of us all!! He was always up for a good time and was a funny guy! I really hope to see him again when I’m on the rest of my travels!
Max was out Thai tour guide and he was THE BEST!!!! I couldn’t fault Max at all, he was always there for any of us when we needed him!!! There was a few medical situations where Max helped us out and made sure we were ok!! I was ill on the over night boat and be let me have his bed so I was closer to the door, he also offered his tablets and water out to everyone who was feeling ill! He was so friendly and made me feel at ease when travelling Thailand! He always wanted us to try Thai food and recommended things for us to try which I liked! Max informed us throughout the trip on Thailand’s culture and way of life! This was so interesting and taught us all a lot about the country and there people!
This company and especially this tour is such an amazing experience and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone whether travelling solo, in a group or in a pair! I will miss my Tru Fam so much and I will never forget this trip! I am now onto my next 2 tru travels tour next week!

The trip was absolutely AMAZING. It was above and beyond my expectations. The guides (Tam, Justin, Max, and Alex) were all so helpful whether we had questions about where to buy stuff or activities to…The trip was absolutely AMAZING. It was above and beyond my expectations. The guides (Tam, Justin, Max, and Alex) were all so helpful whether we had questions about where to buy stuff or activities to do, they always had an answer or they would find an answer. The transport was always on time. I would have preferred to have the nicer car for the overnight train and would be willing to pay more for it. The accommodations were all clean and comfortable.
This has been the best 3 weeks of my life, and I feel so fortunate to have chosen TruTravels and would definitely recommend and use them again in the future!

I never thought about visiting the county before until friends asked me to join them in this TruTravels adventure, and all I can say is - that was one of my best decisions ever! The 14 days were fully packed with activities, and Tommy and Max organized everything so well, like magic hands in the background: The tickets for the sights, hotel room keys, transportation and much more.
Can recommend that trout to absolutely anybody, great value for a small price compared to what you get. With tour guides such as these two it's much easier and you will see and do more than organizing everything on your own. And on top you get two new wonderful friends :)

It was seriously worth every single penny I spent - in fact, I thought it was worth way more, for the kind of close attention and consideration we received from Max, our tour guide. He pushed us out of our comfort zones while making us feel safe and taken care of - he went WAY out of his way to make sure each and every one of us was enjoying our experience and having our travel desires taken care of. No matter how many questions we asked, he answered smiling. He took care of everything from minor inconveniences to medical emergencies with calm and prompt attention. He has so much knowledge about Thai culture, Buddhism, and history, and a real love for his country and his people that we all found infectious - it was such a pleasure getting to pick his brain and hear his perspective. When we had downtime, he showed us the best places to have street food or fine dining, took us to the best local markets, cafes, and bars, and gave us ample opportunities to have more adventure or to simply relax. It really felt like we were being shown around Thailand by a close friend or a family member, rather than by a tour company, and I am so incredibly grateful to have had that kind of experience.
The itinerary itself is jam packed with surreal experiences. My favorite activities were swimming with fish in the pristine waterfalls at Erawan National Park, trekking through the jungle to stay with a rustic hill tribe on the Burmese border, and having Chinese tea on a mountain top in Pai with a stunning view. These activities alone would have made the tour awesome—but what made it life changing was getting to make these memories with new, lifelong friends.
