15 Day Patagonia Itinerary, incl. Buenos Aires and Torres del Paine
This remarkable 15-day Chilean expedition combines 12 nights at sea and 2 nights in hotels, offering intimate encounters with fjords and national parks through carefully curated daily activities.
- Day 1
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Begin in vibrant Buenos Aires. Spend your afternoon exploring Recoleta's European architecture or the bright houses of La Boca. Stay in Palermo where you'll find plenty of restaurants and safe streets for evening walks.
- Day 2
Ushuaia
Fly to Ushuaia in the morning (3.5 hours). You'll have the afternoon free to explore the world's southernmost city before your ship departs. Stop at the End of the World Museum first it gives great background information for your upcoming journey.
- Days 3-4
Cape Horn & Diego Ramirez Islands
Visit Cape Horn if weather allows. Book morning landings when possible since afternoon winds can be strong. The Diego Ramirez Islands offer excellent bird watching. Bring binoculars with at least 8x magnification to spot albatrosses.
- Days 5-7
Chilean Fjords
Your next three days cover Glacier Alley and the Chilean fjords featuring Pia Glacier and the Darwin Mountain Range. Pack layers since temperatures change quickly. Photographers should plan for early morning glacier shots in the best light.
- Days 8-9
Torres del Paine National Park
Stay in Puerto Natales while exploring Torres del Paine. The full 'W' trek needs 5 days but you can see the highlights on day hikes. Get to the famous granite towers early when skies are usually clearest.
- Days 10-12
Canal de las Montañas & Almirantazgo Sound
These days focus on glaciers and wildlife. Visit Tuckers Islets to see Magellanic penguins most active in the morning. Try kayaking if conditions permit but book early since spaces fill up fast.
- Days 13-14
Bahia Brookes & Marta Island
Watch ice falls at North Brookes Glacier and see sea lions at Marta Island. You'll need a good zoom lens since you can't land on Marta Island but Zodiac boats get you close to the wildlife.
- Day 15
Punta Arenas to Santiago
End your journey in Punta Arenas and fly to Santiago. Remember the airport is about an hour from downtown Santiago if you're planning connections.
